TA-082 “SoftDown” Released!

Update: Now the real kicker… Apparently this is fake. Good news — regardless of what you’ve done — it cannot brick your PSP. I cannot personally confirm whether or not this works because I lack a TA-082 hand held. And I’m not going to point fingers with who said what and what said who… Nevertheless, the TA-082 downgrader has been removed until further notice. Even then, I wouldn’t recommend using this softdown procedure, you should stick with HEN D.
Update: As more confirmations come in, Chaos Zero has made some amendments. You are not stuck with 1.50 or 2.71 SE-C once you’ve successfully downgraded. You’re able to run any 2.60+ update EBOOT afterwards. And, another thing, if you chose 2.71 SE-C you can re-softdown to 1.50. Run the TA-082 executable again and select 1.50, boot into 2.71 SE-C “recovery mode,” and select the newly generated EBOOT.
You’ve all heard & read about it — now here it is! Using 0okm’s discovered method, dark_thug was able to produce a successful method to downgrade, or better known as “softdown,” your TA-082 PSP. But, the catch! There’s always a catch… Before you get all excited, there are a few worrisome consequences you must consider before attempting this… As follows:
It’s likely you’ll never be able to upgrade/flash your PSP with another firmware version again- You can only “softdown” to either 1.50 or 2.71 SE-C
- If you select 1.50
- Attempting to access anything under the ’settings’ menu will cause your PSP to crash
- If you select 2.71 SE-C
- You may experience lock-ups during certain games
There’s also a slight chance you may brick your PSP during the initial softdown procedure. I’ve yet to hear any reports of that though.
Continue forward at your own risk!
Instructions (follow carefully!):
- Use Dark_AleX’s Update Flasher to change your TA-082 to 2.50 (if it isn’t already)
- Download 0okm’s 2.50 TA-082 Check & Dump to dump your firmware
- Enter your serial #, specify the path to your 2.50 dump, and select your desired firmware in the Windows executable. (Screen shot below)
- It will then generate the downgrader unique to your PSP.
- Copy the ‘UPDATE’ directory to your PSP under x:/PSP/GAME
- Download and install the Noobz eLoader
- Launch eLoader and select ‘UPDATE’ from menu

You have now started the downgrade and will soon have a patched 1.50 bootstrap.
Once completed, reboot your PSP and hit “O” to restore settings. Viola!
Its also been noted, if you’ve chosen the 1.50 softdown path, that it may be possible to restore the settings menu by flashing a clean 1.50 registry with a tool such as X-Flash. Very risky however. Again — use at your own risk.

nah this is hot u can have 1.5 and u can make it a regular 1.5 with X-flash so your psp wont crash in settings and u have no need to ever upgrade because id=f DEV HOOK!!! this is nice!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!
hey man, how do u know the 2.8x downgrader comes out at christmas eve, i’ve never read it anywhere.
I personally don’t trust this application. It was posted on QJ forums a couple of days ago, before it was even posted on PSP-Haxor and stuff, and it seemed legit but with no testers back then and now it’s tested and proved to work.
But, for me, I don’t like it, assuming the tests are real and everything works, but what’s giving me the insecurity is the restrictions. For example, one downgraded his TA-082 2.71 to 2.50 with Dark_AleX’s Generic Downgrader and do this, he successfully downgrades his PSP to 1.50 or 2.71 SE-C with this, but from there, he notices something that’s really fucked up, and he regrets it, then, he wants to go back to 2.71 because it originally had what he ever needed/wanted but he can’t. So, I’m not going to use this, just going to wait and wait since I’m pretty contented with HEND and stuff on my 2.71 TA-082 set (I’ve 1.50 non-TA-082 as well, heh). This is good for those who are willing to accept the insecurity as well as a fact for a better TA-082 softdown in future.
I personally do not recommend this.

You guys are really harsh. It sucks seeing these comments about how this is horrible when i was the only one who had the guts to test it. I’m actually regreting ever testing it now cuz u guys say it sucks. It doesnt suck because it gives you a REAL 1.5. Not that fake index writing crap. It writes the REAL 1.5 bootstrap to your PSP and then patches the bootstrap so that the TA-082 will recognize it without bricking. And so what if u want to go back to 2.71, emulate it. Heck, why not emulate 3.02? U wanna go back to HEND, write it onto devhook. However, i am glad to see that my tutorial and pic were used. It made front page ^_^. I hope you guys with TA-082’s will trust this because it’s really starting to bring me down.
Can U help me I bought a PSP with Version 2.60 TA-082, before I knew anything about homebrew I upgraded to 3.01 it was an option inside the PSP. Now that I know better I want to downgrade, all I have read says I can not do it. Can you help me, what can I do. Thanx before hand.

I dont have a TA-082. i was lucky enough to have a guy at Target open the box for me so i could check it out first. Luckily i didnt buy it. But you are doing a really cool thing by helping those people who are stuck with that crap.

This is a great achievement! Good work finally cracking that cursed mobo. There’s no way in hell I’d actually try it but great job. I’m sticking to my HEN D until a tighter method is developed. It’s still kickass that u did it though.

Very nice groundbreaking work here, as a TA082 user I applaud your progress. However, I’m only willing to stay in the HenD/DH and Eloader circles until this becomes way more stable. Flashing FW, especially to a point of no return, scares the crap out of me and my 1 month old PSP.
Never the less, Congrats and TONS of good luck for future versions. Stick it to Sony, that’s for sure!

As I have said, same here! Its great! I have it up and running. Screw you guys who dont wanna try it, and if you need to go back to a newer firmware, we have Devhook for EVERY LAST FIRMWARE! Its the real 1.5 as people mentioned too, so some bugs just need to be fixed, and im sure development will start all over agaiN! This is a great day, and a really early X-Mas present.

opening anything in settings will cause system to crash… does it mean brick?
No. Just your PSP will freeze up and after about 20 seconds, it will turn off.
Its kinda scary the first or second time it happens, but its nothing to worry about, and nothing dangerous. (However, trying to force your PSP to crash isnt a good idea by doing it repeatedly.)
After you downgraded to 1.5 couldn’t you use the 1.5 to 1.0 downgrader then upgrade to 1.5?
i dont think the 150 to 100 downgrader is made for the TA082 psp. so no.
has anyone used xflash to do a clean 1.5? And if so wont it enable you to later update if you chose too?

My psp also keeps crashing when i go to the eloader. we need some friggin help because the directions were not that specific
umm… WOW… 1.50 doesn’t use eloader you boot right from the XMB. you need a KXploited eboot though. whitch means it has 2 folders 1 regular and 1 with % in the name. try using KXploit tool.

i dont have a T8-082 psp…mine is already downgraded…but if i did i wouldnt do this thing…although it is progress and it certaintly deserves a round of applause…its too risky and your psp is still way to expensive to try something of this sort…..i would wait until further releases…….. however good job to the developers.

I think I got the 2.50 running with a Alternate Version of Dax.
You have to use Henc Image before Down grading with DAX.
Requires
- Firmware update that you want to install (EBOOT.PBP)
- Pbp unpacker by pdc (http://www.pdc.me.uk/pbp/) or another PBP utility.
- psardump02a by PspPet (http://files.pspupdates.qj.net/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C38%2C599,1,0,0,40,947)
- PSP Firmware Processor by Djboo (http://files.pspupdates.qj.net/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,40,1943)
Method
1) Open firmware update (EBOOT.PBP) with pbp unpacker
2) Extract DATA.PSAR in memory stick root (if memory stick = F:/ in operating system then the extracted file must be F:/DATA.PSAR)
BE CAREFUL : psardump02a don’t manage firmware > 2.50, please wait for 2.60 firmware.
3) Install psardump02a in your memory stick like another homebrew (PSP/GAME)
4) Run psardump02a, he will erase DATA.PSAR and create OUT folder and OUTX folder in memory stick root.
5) Copy all files (EXCEPT README.TXT) of OUTX in OUT (overwrite existing files) and erase OUTX folder.
6) Open OUT/README.TXT file with text editor supporting UNIX format and you will see the firmware files list :

7) You should remake the firmware folders/files structure while using “Regular files” informations in README.TXT.
You can to do it automatically with PSP Firmware Processor utility (follow the instructions in pspfp_readme.txt file) or manually like that :
First, choose a folder which contains flash0 files and another for flash1, example :
{memory stick letter}:/MPHFL_FW/2.00/flash0/ Install me in ms0:/mphfl.inf /MPHFL_FW/2.00/flash0
- Modified string : /MPHFL_FW/2.00/flash0/data/cert/Class1_PCA_G2_V2.cer
We must be save the file ‘ms0:/OUT/Class1_PCA_G2_v2.cer’ (ms0:/ = {memory stick letter}:/) in {memory stick letter}:/MPHFL_FW/2.00/flash0/data/cert/Class1_PCA_G2_V2.cer.
We must create a data folder in {memory stick letter}:/MPHFL_FW/2.00/flash0/ folder and then create in data folder a folder called ‘cert’ and then copy {memory stick letter}:/OUT/Class1_PCA_G2_V2.cer in cert.
You must do that with all files in ‘Regular Files’ list in README.TXT, it’s take time but you must do it only one time.
For IPL files (psp_ipl.bin, part1_psp_ipl.bin, part2_psp_ipl.bin and part3_psp_ipl.bin), just copy in folder that contains flash0 (in example {memory stick letter}:/MPHFL_FW/2.00/flash0/)
-> This step is just useful for flash0, no flash1 files is contains in OUT, See next steps for flash1

DAX=Using 2.71 Update Flasher By dark+the official 2.50 FW. Place them in the Game/Update
Rename the Original 2.50EBOOT to UPDATE.PBP close every thing then go run the App from the PSP. This gives me reboot then error

For me it was a half brick as a result(harley g’s custom firmware) Fortunately it still works with dh emulated firmware. So, instead of posing the same questions over and over again read. It costs you nothing and it helps you build up your confidence you need in yourself and in the product(downgrader). So, keep on reading, everything you need is out there :)) You just have to f###in READ IT! Have fun

I had a half brick. He did say that he have Harley g’s custom firmware dude, that thing saves psps, and am 100% for real. I semi bricked 2 of my 1.5 PSPs, but having the HG’s FW it gets me back up and running in 30minutes. Ahalf brick is the error screen of different lanuages that keeps repeating over and over. (o to restore settings screen)
Just keep on reading as i was saying earlier, when i thought the downgrader was real:) And about my half-bricked psp: i used easy 250-260 downgrader, afterwards installing harley g’s cool shit. The only problem was that the downgrader didn’t leave a clean firmware install in my flash (fucked up f1 i think, dunno) and now the xmb doesn’t boots. But happily emulated devhook loads up. Do you know any way to unbrick it?

I’d stick to 2.71 and just use hend, 1.5 is old school now that hend can emulate firmware on 2.71. The only good thing about 1.5 WAS iso support which can be done NOW with 2.71 hend.
Yesterday I tried to upgrade my 1.5 to 2.71 for the first time since downgrading( didn,t use this downgrader) and it will not do it, keeps telling me the update data is corrupted :(

one more thing, yes, a friend just successfully downgraded my TA-082 this morning using this appliication.
This may be an encredible stupid question, but I am new at this so bare with me. What is the 2.71 Update flasher for?
The update flasher lets you downgrade a TA-82 to factory 2.5 and only that is the lowest dude, if you do any lower you will brick, so just downgrade to the factory 2.5 and you will be straight, if you dont listen, then there will be consequences such as a brick (if you downloaod the 2.71 flasher update, then there’s already a info file with it explaining you everything about it man, READ IT! and you will be in good hands.

Ya, it’s still in early stages, but I can’t wait to try it. I’ve just gotta track someone with a TA-82 down to try it on. Mine is already hacked w/ 2.71 SE-C. But for all the people knocking and talking $hit about this program, f u c k you. What have you contributed to this scene? If you think dark_thug’s downgrader is crap, write a better one yourself, or can’t script-kiddies code nowadays?

no you cannot, you have to be at 2.71, back a month ago, every body told you and the rest of the psper’s not to upgrade past 2.71, some ppl didnt care or couldnt wait for any downgraders, now, see! why now its worth the wait? because downgraders will eventually come duh!

it says chaos zero confirmed once you downgraded to 1.50
you can run any eboot higher than 2.60
im not surewhat that means,
does it mean you can update to anything higher than 2.6?
and does it mean the games have to be higher than 2.6?
andd, which firmwares can you emulate using devhook?
last question,
is it a fully functional 1.50?

yep, so that means DO NOT UPGRADE TO version 2.5, if you do it may result a brick, so do 2.6 off the bat/// OR he may mean that even though its a 1.50 psp, you can run 2.6 games or homebrew made for 2.6 and above(thats preetty sweet)….. Games dont have to be higher than 2.6, you cann emulate all firmwares (1.5-3.02 currently with devhook)
And this is not really a fully function 1.50 in other words, if you go to system settings and stuff, your psp may freeze, so you cant just shuffle through the settingsreally fast, like i b doing alot with my 1.5 (ta-81). You choose man, but still… props go to dark thug.

Okay, so why is it this will only work on original 2.5 PSPs?? Mine was 2.6 when I got it and I upgraded to 2.71, so what’s that mean for people who have 2.6’s? I don’t understand why it doesn’t work for us. All it does for me when I try downgrading is just rebooting and not doing anything else.

dude its fake read this from qj Just as the title says, Dark_Alex claims that the recently released TA-082 downgrader is a fake. Chatting with jas0nuk (thanks for the heads up!), DAX mentioned a couple of reasons as to why he thought this release is not a legitimate one: “eloader don’t load prxs”, “the text file with keys that it generates don’t seem to be used at all”, “the person that creates it is not very reliable”, and – probably the clincher – “the first result in google of him: a virus page”.
Now, Dark_Alex is Dark_Alex and his word is always taken for the truth. TA-082 users have been waiting for this downgrader for such a loooong time now that we won’t blame them if this time they take DAX’s word with a grain of salt and scamper to try out this downgrader. But in the words of QJ blogger Pranav, “we don’t want to be part of the confusion” and also since we don’t wanna take part in you guys bricking PSPs, we decided to take down the file.
Now, we have warned you: This downgrader is a fake. If anyone does decide to go somewhere else for the files, you’re doing so at your own risk As some of you in the forums have noted, ChaosZero of PSP HaXors wrote about the release of a TA-082 PSP downgrader for people to use. Made by dark_thug, he notes that with the proper additional software, TA-082 units with 2.50, 2.60 and 2.71 firmware types can now switch downgrade to 1.50 or 2.71 SE-C.
Now, on to the tough bits of this little article. There are a lot of warnings that need to be given in case you feel the urge to use this app. Here’s the combined weight of PSP HaXors warnings and our own:
* Some games will lock up in 2.71 SE-C.
* On 1.50, trying to change settings menu gives a Blue Screen of Death. You won’t be able to change your Video Options, System Settings, etc.
* On a brighter note, the BSoD could theoretically be fixed, using an app like X-Flash to flash a new system reg from a 1.50 user! Or, while making the dump, switch the 2.50 reg with the 1.50 reg. This is risky however.
* The TA-082 Boards can also be downgraded to 2.71 SE-C! The BSoD will be gone. The catch again, you may not be able to return (to 1.50). If you can, it will most likely use the same update made to downgrade from 2.50. That still has not been tested.
* Using this to downgrade to either 1.50 or SE-C leaves you with that particular state. Attempting to upgrade, according to 0okm, will most likely brick your PSP so you probably shouldn’t try it.
* We haven’t tested this on our unit, so you’ll be attempting this at your own risk. Make sure you know what you’re doing before you try it out.
In any case, we wish you all the best of luck. Again, make sure you know what you’re doing or you might lose your PSP. Feel free to check back on this article or on our forums for more information, as we’re pretty sure everyone watches each other’s backs in the homebrew scene. Take care!

Im happy with my Old ass PSP renewed to 2.8 cause I can still HomeBrew sum emu’s : nes, snes, genesis, gba, ps1, n64, atari … and many new homebrew games & apps.
