UMDGen v4.00 Released
greg | December 12, 2006
The UMDGEN Team has released UMDGen v4.00 — with a few simple mouse clicks you can easily create & manipulate PSP Universal Media Disc (UMD) compliant ISO images.
v4.00 changes:
- New layout
- UMDGen now displays information from UPDATE\PARAM.SFO as well as PSP_GAME\PARAM.SFO
- Optimize button added. This function automatically detects and resizes dummy data, removed un-needed padding and dummies the contents of the UPDATE folder (if detected)
- Non-PSP standard images can be forced to be read by the user. Upon detection, UMDGen will let you know the image is non-standard and you can choose whether to continue and have UMDGen attempt to read it – *NOTE* depending on the individual image, this could cause UMDGen to close if it encounters data it isn’t expecting – but the general rule is if the PSP can read it then presume UMDGen can too.
- UMD_DATA.BIN file generator. If your compilation is missing this file then UMDGen gives you the oppertunity to create a new one.
- Ability to change “PSP_SYSTEM_VER” in PARAM.SFO to different firmware version. (Use +/- key while version is selected)
- ‘Drop Open’ images re-introduced due to a lot of requests to re-add it to UMDGen.
- Complete CSO + DAX support. You can now edit compressed images the same as uncompressed images. Dax support now includes the use of Non-Compressed areas feature.
- ‘Ezip’ format removed. We didn’t think it was worth keeping this format since it only had very limited support anyway.
- ‘Dummy File’ option added as requested by many users.
- v3.50 still had trouble with one or two problem images. A lot of code to do with the reading/writing process has been restructured and these problems should now be fixed.

let me be the first to say thanks for this. I love UMDGen. Very useful tool!
awesome!! new umdgen is always good
yeaa.. now will someone please make a fucking usb mod for devhook 5.1
Awsome release!!! I’m a big fan of UMDGen, and have been waiting for this. This ability to edit .cso/.dax makes it well worth the wait!
this sounds awesome, any chance of a Mac OSX version?
ever try using wine? I do believe there is a version for Mac OS X, it will emulate windows programs and since the UMDGen is probably just a simple app, im sure it will function properly under wine. Give it a go.
nice work this is awsome, easy to use & very good at its job :)
Great creation! Thanks for investing your time and sharing your talents with us, so we can enjoy our PSP more!
you can copy the newer umds like marvel ultimate and change fw version before copy wit this???
Thanks!
WHAT DOES THIS DO. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME I REALLY WANT TO KNOW.
this let u edit psp iso
does this tool let me downl;oad iso to my psp or what
so does this mean you can change required firmware and play 2.81 games on 2.71 se-c xmb iso loader? i really need mgs ops to work withought devhook, umd drive broke :(
hey i’m glad to see i’m not the only one so does anyone know?
Ok, where is this “optimize” button that dummy’s the update and padding files at once, i don’t seem to have one.
Just load your iso, click the “properties” tab, and click “optimize” button in lower left corner. Took me a few minutes to find it also, but gave it a try on a few ISOs and it works perfectly.
i use umdgen more than i use condoms, maybe that’s why i have 4 kids
Life just got a whole lot easier. using Devhook .46, change firmware required to 2.71 within the game iso, resave the iso….and wowwww, fantastic.
Wtf, why can’t I make a ISO of my UMD?
Yeah i found it, it doesn’t work in cso. Prob why i didn’t see it to begin with.
Great improvent to an already great program!
Thanks alot!
anyone tried changing firmware for MGS portable ops yet because i have a busted UMD drive using 2.71SEC noumd mode.
i know how u feel :( i need to find out too
i tried it and it doesnt load still, i replaced the prx files too with other prx files from 2.6+2.71 games, still no luck, damn stupid sony and there shitty prx’s :@
dude stop posting on every message board about having a busted umd drive here is advice buy a new one stop posting every where
wanna buy me a new one? dumbass…. this is my second psp, psp hardware is poorly made….sooner or later yours is gonna go out too.
damn right, you selfish cunt, dont argue with us trying to get help!
i got better thing to do than argue with kids
Kick his ass, Seabass!
…so… can this load ripkits so you don’t have to manually do any of that crap?
hen dont argue, moron
yoyo, why not just buy a new UMD drive instead of downloading your games?
Good app, btw. I’ll be checking this out shortly.
BE WARNED MATES;
There seems to be a critical bug!
On a crash this fucking programm started to delete my whole HD (The choosen one, where it should save the file). i could stop this disaster by deleting the task, but i lost 20 gb of data and i’m very angry about.. know i hope a data recovery programm will help me… !!! i will downgrate to UMDGen 3.5, such a shit shouldn’t happen again!!!
so be warned mates!
oi. tudo bem…depois eu nao sei…psp…video…
Ok. I use UMD Dumper to get a dump of the UMD, then I open the sucker up in UMDGEN and remove the UPDATE folder, then run the pad remove option and the optimize, then compress it to CSO with level 5 compression. I get the CSO and put it into my ISO folder, but when I try to play it, all it does is boot to a black screen then to an error message “The game could not be started. (80020148).” What could I possibly be doing wrong?
niiiiiiice
shit, it be hard fo a workin man out cheeya. umdgen bring me on back
