PS1P Alpha 1

Gary13579 | November 25, 2006

It’s finally here! The long awaited (and rumored fake) PS1 homebrew emulator has finally been released. It may not be as fast as the official PS1 emulator, but at least you don’t have to spend $2,000 on eBay (that’s right, you must have a PS3 to use the official PS1 emulator) and update to a homebrew-less firmware to use it.

From the read me:

The wait is worth it. I’m releasing a version that will run anything. ISO, BIN, Z and ZNX. The rest you know. scph1001.bin and images in the __SCE__ps1p directory.

This version has some compatibility problems which I plan to fix soon, for example the FF7 intro movie doesn’t run. You can play the game though, just get past the intro using a standard PC emulator (PCSX, ePSXe, …) and copy over the memory card file (mcd001.mcr or mcd002.mcr).

Use L+R+ up/down to tweak the CPU timing.

I think L2 and R2 aren’t working at the moment too.

Attached the zip file.

–A.C.

Although we cannot give out the ISO’s for the PS1, we can give out a link to the PS1 BIOS file, which is required to run this emulator. You can download it here.

Download PS1P Alpha 1 here.

DAX’s SE-C Custom 2.71 Firmware Released

Alias420 | November 25, 2006

Dark Alex has done it once again, releasing his 2.71 custom firmware revision C. Here is the change log for this latest revision:

- Load of plugins from the ms
- Changes in the HEN core:

* Fixed a bug in the loading of big user prx’s, that affected a plain prx of socom2 umd, and some
homebrew prx’s.

* Bypassed a crappy $ce protection that prevented the umd to be mounted if the application was run from
the memory stick

* Usb mass storage couldn’t be loaded by homebrews in non-devhook version because semawm.prx is sign checked.
HEN now applies the algorithm to reverse the sign check, letting this and the rest of firmware
modules to be loaded by a homebrew.

- Added a SDK for SE-C/HEN-D. (in a separate download)

there isn’t much different for for a fresh install. If you are upgrading here is the important tidbit from the readme:

SE-C can only be installed in a full install

If you are in a previous version of SE, simply copy the seupdmake, seupdmaker%, 271seflasher and 271seflasher% folders to
/PSP/GAME150 and follow the same instructions than when installing from 1.50.

You click here to grab SE-C from our psp downloads area.

Oh yeah, and Homebrew Enabler (HEN D)! Also the SDK for developers.

PSPCAP32 v1.1.4: CPC Emulator (fix)

greg | November 25, 2006

Say what you will about ZX-81, but he does a damn good job at what he does and has contributed a significant amount to the homebrew scene; the classics never had a home on the PSP before ZX-81’s arrival.

That brings me to the latest release of PSPCAP32, the CPC emulator ported from Ulrich Doewich’s Caprice32. It emulates the CPC home computer series — supporting CPC464, CPC664, and CPC6128 models.

PSPCAP32 v1.1.4 Screenshot

What’s new?

  • Add “fit height” zoom mode
  • Speed limiter is set to 50fps max (instead of 60fps)
  • Bug fix in PNG screenshots (bad colors)
  • Bug fix in sound tick menu (psp crash)

CWCheat 0.1.6 REV. B for 2.71 SE-B”

greg | November 24, 2006

weltall’s CWCheat has been updated for all you custom firmware running cheaters. The 0.1.6 REV. B changelog:

  • now it’s possible to use both the screenshoot version (the high speed/less compatible, and the high compatible/slower version) just by changing the options in the config submenu NOTE: the high compatible version is default
  • now it’s possible to change the brightness by using the screen button (what’s used normally to change brightness) and put the screen at 0% -> 25% -> 50% -> 75% -> 100% brightness NOTE: this is disabled as default so if you want it you must enable it under the config menu

5 brightness levels — cool addition! You can install manually or automatically with the included installer, courtesy of coldbird. See “README-271SE.txt” for instructions.

PSPHost v2.0 Released

greg | November 23, 2006

danny_kay1710 has sent an email notifying us about the recent release of PSPHost. This one is solely a bug fix release as it corrects a nasty problem with NETHOST sometimes failing.

PSPHost v2.0 Screenshot

Again…

Once setup you’ll soon have access to your PC’s hard disk — acting as a “virtual memory stick” if you will. This creates the option of playing ISOs over a USB connection with DevHook, easily streaming video to your PSP using PiMPStreamer, running any desired homebrew off your PC with iR Shell, and last but not least, using your PSP as a wireless joystick with WiFi Controller

2.71/2.80 Hybrid DevHook Package for SE-B

greg | November 23, 2006

Another noob-friendly Hybrid DevHook package has surfaced from ChaosZero… This one differs a tad from nextek’s as it loads the 2.71 system files off the PSP’s flash, while the 2.80 files are loaded off the memory stick. Much safer than flashing the files (and so far, more stable).

All you need to do is extract the zip archive to the root of your memory stick, and after completion, run DevHook. All other settings are pre-set for ease of use.

On another note, ChaosZero has accidentally bricked his PSP during experimental practices — if you wish to be considerate, you can donate here.

PSPThom v1.0.2 Ultimate: A TO7-70 Emulator

greg | November 23, 2006

You know how it is — you can’t stop him… ZX-81 with yet another emulator update. Although PSPThom v1.0.1 (final) was released only a few days ago, here is PSPThom v1.0.2 Ultimate! And it features:

  • Bug fix in Render mode x1.25 (missing pixels)
  • Add help menu
  • Increase the volume

ZX-81 politely noted this should be the final release, providing no major bugs are found.

FW 3.00 & 3.01 Decrypted!

greg | November 22, 2006

This sure made me laugh… The Noobz have successfully modified PSAR dumper to dump and decrypt the latest Sony PSP firmware, 3.00. And! If that’s not enough, it also does 3.01 — ha ha!

We’re proud to present a mod to the PSPPet’s PSARDumper, that will decrypt all known firmware update PSARs - just extract the PSAR from the EBOOT in the usual way, copy it to ms0:/data.psar, and run the dumper.

Great news & awesome work guys!

DevHook 2.71/2.80 Hybrid for 1.5 & 2.71 SE-B

greg | November 22, 2006

Have you read about the DevHook Hybrid mod? I’m not sure who discovered this but essentially it corrects compatibility with many 2.80 required titles under DevHook. And when the same method is used (flashed) with 2.71 SE-B” you can directly load 2.80 ISOs from the PSP XMB. You can read more about this mod here, and here.

The safest method is with DevHook — all on the memory stick and nothing is written to flash; however, if you wish to go the FW flashing route, be careful. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Tired of reading? Take the easy way out — download the 2.71/2.8 DevHook Hybrid Installer (courtesy of nextek).

Extreme Link v1.2.7

greg | November 22, 2006

Quake of SubZerO DeZigns is back with a new version of Extreme Link.

(click to enlarge)Extreme Link v1.2.7 Screenshot

Extreme Link serves as an all-in-one Windows application responsible for manging your PSP’s media content; well not quite entirely yet — currently only save games & videos are supported. In addition it also provides a simple means of playing ISO, CSO, and DAX images over USB from your PC’s hard drive. Pretty cool, huh? You will of course require DevHook with the USB Mod installed. The rest is pretty straight forward — check “Help.rtf” for instructions.

Wait! That’s not it… With this app you’re given the ability to convert ISO to/from CSO compressed format, and it supports a wide range of configuration options to ensure it functions as you desire.
