New Homebrew — PspIrda v0.0.1

Posted by greg

MaT has released his first version of the new PspIrda homebrew application. Appropriately titled PspIrda enables infrared file transfer between devices — your PSP, cell phone, PC, etc… Basically any IrDA device compatible with the IrOBEX (Infrared Object Exchange) protocol.

Here’s what MaT had to say:

This version 0.0.1 is a proof of concept.
I know the GUI is ugly but it wasn’t the objective of this release.
The objective was to release something functional to test it with your devices and to have feedback on the compatibility.

The main problem of this release is the transfer speed. It’s slow, really slow; the speed is 9600pbs. It’s not a limitation of the technology which can go up to 115200bps but of the pspsdk which doesn’t include any function to configure the speed of irda port of the PSP. The developers at ps2dev.org are doing an amazing job with the pspsdk and I’m sure they will find us a way to change this.

A debug version is included which dumps output to ‘debug.log’ under the ‘pspirda’ directory on your memory stick. You can pass this file along to MaT if you experience any problems or compatibility issues between devices.

Good job MaT.

    @#3

Yes, the psp has infrared, it’s on top, next to the umd tray.

This is pretty cool, hope they make it go up to the full speed.

By the way, #5, why are you with sony, fanboy?

Also, you cant trace the ip and this is no copyright infringement?

Awesome, what FW is req. atleast for this? 1.50 or so?

And #5, you can’t just ‘trace someones IP’. Well.. you actually can, but then you have to do it the illegal way. Meaning your doing something against the law, while trying to get someone sued who did something against the law.
In other words, you would loose alot.

And ehm.. Sony can’t just say ‘u all suck’, and I highly doubt they would say it in MSN language also..

So, in theory, I could actually use the PSP in future as a game controller (as my computer has infrared)? I know there is a wi-fi controller out there, but my computer doesn’t have wi-fi, so read the whole of this message before calling me an idiot. Haha.

    Thanks!

i wrote a post in a german forum called pspsource.de and they told me it´ll never be possible to transfer via irda …

awesome dude … keep it up … i want to use my w810i ;) …. maybe you don´t need the pspgprs and originalcamera because your celli can do the same … hopefully

Thanks for answering Nick - I’d be worried about the transfer speed at the moment, although surely the game controls wouldn’t require much data to be relayed. We’ll see if anybody develops anything from it.

AYE!!! anyone know if you can transfer files between the IR on the GBC to the psp? i got a gameboy camera and thought it’d be cool to turn it into a full fledged cheap digital camera

Sorry Vandalpir8, that would not work. The GB Camera does not store the pictures as bmp/jpg or any known format, so no computer system would understand them.
