DAX’s SE-C Custom 2.71 Firmware Released
Alias420 | November 25, 2006
Dark Alex has done it once again, releasing his 2.71 custom firmware revision C. Here is the change log for this latest revision:
- Load of plugins from the ms
- Changes in the HEN core:* Fixed a bug in the loading of big user prx’s, that affected a plain prx of socom2 umd, and some
homebrew prx’s.* Bypassed a crappy $ce protection that prevented the umd to be mounted if the application was run from
the memory stick* Usb mass storage couldn’t be loaded by homebrews in non-devhook version because semawm.prx is sign checked.
HEN now applies the algorithm to reverse the sign check, letting this and the rest of firmware
modules to be loaded by a homebrew.- Added a SDK for SE-C/HEN-D. (in a separate download)
there isn’t much different for for a fresh install. If you are upgrading here is the important tidbit from the readme:
SE-C can only be installed in a full install
If you are in a previous version of SE, simply copy the seupdmake, seupdmaker%, 271seflasher and 271seflasher% folders to
/PSP/GAME150 and follow the same instructions than when installing from 1.50.
You click here to grab SE-C from our psp downloads area.
Oh yeah, and Homebrew Enabler (HEN D)! Also the SDK for developers.

Nice… Ill see if ti’s worth the upgrade…
Finaly they posted it here! Good work Darl_Alex anyway! ;D
j/k but really good work!
Pointless….. neeeds alot more work. Now where going to have to wait for xflash to work on it, rediculas. And whats the point in putting cpu change on the recovery menu saying ‘not yet’
wtf. I can’t upgrade or install…it goes to the psp screen then it just freezes and shuts down…
could the next version have some cool music features?
read that it’s contain with bugs SE-C ,i am stil happy with SE-B3 i am wating to see what kind a bug this is so mine advise to you all is wait a few day for the fixs or patch
this community is amazing. seriously. i thank dax alot!! but guys, i recommend you wait for some bug fixes without going through the hassle of keep updating. btw, when you update, does it mess with you flash? sry for the nooby question.
@#7 Yes this is just like a Sony FW just custom, It writes to the Flash memory.
I hope some of the ISO compatability is fixed.
Great job DA!!!!…and now for Devhook 3.01..can’t wait…
About time this was posted on PSP-Hacks
This version does not have bugs, at least none that I’ve seen yet, I don’t know about the ISO compatibility issues unless it’s some of the newer 2.8X games and then just use one of the new devhook hybrids. It’s a fairly simple update process.
This thing doesnt load my prx
if you want to load prxs check the forums (chaos zero’s thread or iceman’s thread) and look for my post about it. I can confirm MiG’s OCmodule and joek2100’s mp3mod are working.
Late!
YAY!!! Burnout legends now works, no need to load devhook to run it anymore… good job DA… THANKS!!
um, Burnout legends worked on SE-B3 too – I never had any problems with it – I didnt even use Devhook once with any of my images so get them to work.
UM,BURNOUT LEGENDS STILL DOESNT WORK ON SEB-C FW(DEC HOOK WORKS FINE).TINK MAYBE ITS MY COPY OF BURNOUT LEGEND. GOING TO TRY MORTAL COMBAT
nope, mortal combat and sCabelas African Safari till doesnt work with seb-c
SEB-C… Isnt Is SE-C…
Oh Yah, and good work DAX, I’m with you all the way dude.
Well Burnout Legends never worked for me under SE-B” (SE-B3), i had to use devhook, but once i installed SE-C it worked fine (this was the same ISO i never even took it off the stick)…
But no, this new version of SE will NOT help the problems with most 2.80+ games, you are meant to use Hyrbid Devhook firmwares or ISO patches (i would prefer the patches because i havnt had much luck with Devhook Hyrbid Firmwares) for that.
check the flashing SE-C:

hmm
when i installed se-c i had to reinstall all my costum font/gameboot/wall
:\
Nice Firmware..
I’m on seb” how do I install this? to i need to go back to 1.50?
do I need to make a data.dxr with 1.50 amd seb” ?
i used my old data.dxr (1.50 & 2.71) I ended to having SEA!!! help
I got it!!!! hehe
I found a chaos zero auto installer in the forums section of this site but when i run the install it just freezes and turns my psp off
how to install SEC if your on SEB”
1. Make a data.prx
Update from before, I notice that the auto install placed the files in the game folder instead of game150, switched them over and it was an easy 1-2-3 install, my props to dark alex and chaos
How to install SEC if your on SEB
1.Make a data.prx, copy setupmaker and setupmaker% to GAME150 folder
add 150.PBP and 271.PBP to setupmaker folder.
run setupmaker. and it will create the file data.prx.
2. Copy 2.71seflasher nad 2.71seflaher% to GAME150 , add the created data.prx to 2.71seflasher folder. Run it then wait….. guess what will happen next?
So what is the latest version of devhook? the one included in SEC? or the hybrid one?
gay i have to send my 2.71 se-b psp back to sony (obviously changin the firmware to 3.00 first so sony dont see im usin custom firmware) because the analog stick is faulty and its really annoyin they are sendin me a new one on tuesday does anyone know what firmware my new psp is likely to come on and if it will be a ta-082 they said it will have been a refurbished psp so it will have been used before i just hope i can use this great firmware.
i wonder is Chaos Zero gonna make a n00b friendly version
for JohnnyC most likely ur psp gonna be 3.0+ my friend had to get hes psp fix too and they updated to 3.0 and took hes 4gb away becuz he had some games on it
no rin its not being fixed im receving a replacement where i will hand over my old psp to the delivery man and he hands me a refurbished one is it still likely to be 3.0+? i have had i refurbished psp before when 2.8 was out and the one i recived was a 2.6 so im kind of curious to find out
I had my psp replaced 5 times because I kept bricking it, every time it came with either a 2.6 or 2.5 non ta-082.
I think your pritty safe.
And are you sure thats why they took his memory stick? Or did he just forget it in the psp when he got it replaced?
And as for this its pritty damn good! Can’t wait to see what modules are made for it :D
thanks tpspoons hope your right cause if it as a non ta-082 2.5 or 2.6 i will just downgrade to 1.5 then straight buck up to 2.71 se-c always great to see this firmware continously getting better hopefully see of the 3.0 features in future releases
Happy with 2.71SE-B at the moment will wait till all DA’s features have ben implemented b4 upgrading IMO i cant see the point @ the mo.
For those of you who are having game issues, try disabling plain modules, that works for most games.
And for those of you who can’t see the point of this, if you don’t understand why loading .prx modules off of the memorystick, and not having to flash them to NAND, is a good thing then I won’t even bother…
Oh, and Chaos Zero’s installers have multiple devhook options, including the new hybrid versions.
Im whit 2.71 SE-A can i upgrade to 2.71 SE-C or first B and then C ? please
For those having game issues:
If you’re trying to load an ISO try disabling plain modules as I said but don’t forget to also enable the ‘No UMD’ option, sorry I forgot that.
@Frihet:
You should be able to go straight to SE-C, but you may want to upgrade to the SE-Bs first. Try checking some of the forums first, try these forums:

Hello.
is anyone stuck in 2.71 SE-B like me?
Just crashes, the internal formatter makes folders that can’t be read. Does anyone know why it crashes while accessing the memory stick?
?
Hi all, I´m on FW 1.5 what´s the advantage of upgrading to this custom FW?
You need FULL install to update this feature!
If you have SE-b” then put these 4 folders in game150
Then grab FW 1.5 and FW 2.71 Update (orginal from Sony)
Put them in “seupdmaker” OBS: You have to rename the files from EBO0T.pbp to 150.pbp and 2.71 pbp
Then run the seupdmaker from xmb, and the program makes a data.dax file.
Now, you gotta move this file to “271seflasher” ( u r still in game150)
Go, run the flash from xmb too!! – Ur done ;)
OBS:
I forgot to tell how important it is to follow up with the RECOVERY and DH files…
(Sorry for dbl poST)
steal my ideas………..
Sounds like all the problems and confusion and risks of this special edition firmwares isn’t worth all the trouble. I think I’ll stick with my 1.5 firmware with devhook.
@ #49:
The confusion is because most people don’t read the readme.txt that comes in the .rar file. The instructions are fairly clear, all you have to do is read them and follow them.
@ #44 fussler:
If you want some detailed help PM me in the forums and I will help with a step-by-step walk-through and any other help I can give.
@ #45 Mozex:
The advantages are this:
1.5 and 2.71 have been combined into one firmware, you can still use 99.9% of 1.5 homebrew just as you did on 1.5, as well as get all the added Sony features (web browser, rss, etc.) and load all games (UMD) up to 2.71 as well as some that are 2.8+. You also get ISO loading without devhook, the games in your ISO folder show up in and load from the game menu, the same menu as your homebrew, even most 2.8+ ISOs load without modifications (I’m playing KillZone right now), plus devhook still works, both the 1.5 and 2.71 versions work. Plus you get a recovery mode, which eliminates 99% of bricks. Now you also get to load .prx modules without having to flash them. So there are many advantages to 2.71 SE-C.
quick and easy way is to downgrade back to 1.5 fw and then down load the 2.71 se-c fw.Then just run the installer and let it do everything for you, quick and easy about
Socom 2 doesnt work under this firmware
@52: Probably because it is a 2.80+ game isnt it? Most games that are 2.80+ wont work under anything except a Hybrid 2.80-2.71 Devhook without being FIXED, im not sure what the fixing involves but i think it is adding some PRXs to the ISO…
great work, Alex. can someone please explain to me what the ‘usb mass storage’ option does in the recovery menu? does this enable the use of external usb drives? cheers.
@ #52:
Socom2 is playable, but no WiFi (even with hybrid devhook, 2.8x firmware has a MAC and Firmware check when starting WiFi and can’t be faked so far). If you wanna play SOCOM2 (I’ve got the ISO running right now) first enable the ‘No UMD’ option in the ‘configuration’ recovery menu then disable the ‘Plain Modules’ option in the ‘advanced configuration’ option. This works for many games like Killzone, Tiger07, Etc.
USB mass storage allows you to transfer files to your memstick for recovery if you should happen to brick while using your psp.
@34 instead of updating to 3.01 why dont you run the recovery option to date it back down to 1.50 got more chance of coming back as a usable 1.50 than a sent 3.01!
@34 ignore that ive read on now :) doh
any info on a 2,80 down grader? yet
I love the loading plugins from ms :D And the fact that you can use more modules at the same time!
When i look back at when the first fw modification tools came… like change version from 1.50 to 2.00 to play umd’s on 1.50 :P
Thanks alex
I installed this, ran it once, quit back to the main screen, ran my NES emulator, the NES emulator had an error, went back to the main screen and it had currupted the PS1P emulator, and all my settings for my other emulators
can someone here please tell me where on the psp you put the files for the sdk? i cant seem to figure it out
