PSPThom v1.0.2 Ultimate: A TO7-70 Emulator

greg | November 23, 2006

You know how it is — you can’t stop him… ZX-81 with yet another emulator update. Although PSPThom v1.0.1 (final) was released only a few days ago, here is PSPThom v1.0.2 Ultimate! And it features:

  • Bug fix in Render mode x1.25 (missing pixels)
  • Add help menu
  • Increase the volume

ZX-81 politely noted this should be the final release, providing no major bugs are found.

ZX-81 you rock.

I am a total fan of the 8-bit era having grown up with these machines but I had never heard of this thing.

Is anyone else getting a “forbidden” message when trying to access ZX-81’s website?

I think he banned me because of some stupid comment one of my house mates’s party guests made on there the other day. Just so you know, ZX-81, I’m the one in this house that pays the bills and I think its kind of messed up that I cant see your website now because of something someone else said. No offense man, but if you can’t take a negative comment you shouldn’t have a comment page in the first place. And by the way, that guy that was over here is on a wifi laptop. If he wants to mess with you he can always just hop on any wifi location he comes across, and if he finds out how much this bothers you he probably will. Meanwhile, I remain forever unable to visit your website and I havent even done anything to deserve that. So wtf…my fault for having wifi in my home I guess.

hey ZX81, you’re a fruitylicious little bastard. I went past your stupid little ‘ban’ on my IP and saw that you deleted my comment. Must be nice to live in your little delusional world where anyone that says “hey you suck, this is gay” can magically disappear by the push of a button. I bet you don’t get out much, cuz you’d probably be hearing a lot of that, which is probably why you stay at home making all those useless emulators. You suck, lol, and my girlfriend is laughing at you right now.

If you had post such comments on any PSP forum, you will have been banned immediatly.

As far as i know, i’ve the right to do exactly what i want on my blog. When you use rude words on your comments, i remove the comment and your ip is automatically banned (a kind of spam protection system …)

Now if you don’t like an homebrew, i don’t understand why you loose your time to go to the author web site, and post a comment to insult him and his work ?

Your mum should be proud of you … Stupid Kids like you, make the PSP scene dying …

Zx.

Zx, I think you are missing the point there. With all due respect, I am the homebrew fan here and that was MY ip that got banned. The person who messed with you doesn’t even have a PSP, and you are playing HIS game by coming on here to respond to his posts. He’s laughing it up I just know it. Meanwhile it’s my ip that suffers. So please get this straight, you banned ME, not HIM.

I actually have a question for you, since you’re here reading this obviously. It kind of goes back to the comment that started this whole thing (NOT made by me), so knowing how much this bothers you I am hoping to ask in the nicest way possible here. Why do you make emulators for all those old 80s computers instead of emulating things of today like Macs or Windows machines? I cant imagine where I would find software for a Thom system, and I’m not a programmer. I have heard of Macintosh emulation on here but I tried installing it a few times and it never worked. It would be nice if you tackled that one of these days and made such an emu. I’d love to be able to load up all kinds of music programs on the PSP, even if its old OS7 stuff like Turbosynth it would still be pretty cool. OSX would be nice but I cant imagine how it would be possible. Then theres Windows with things like Fruity Loops. All of that would be pretty cool. I was wondering if maybe you were slowly working up towards developing stuff like that, by starting out with older computers and building up from each one, learning from it, eventually getting to the newer systems. Well, it would be cool if you took an interest in that, or if it was possible. I dont know, but anyway I’m sorry about what happened. And for the record, ‘Umbra’ was not his real name. He posted that because someone else around here uses that name and I dont know maybe he was trying to mess with them, maybe he was just at a lack for ideas, its hard to say. I can say this experience has definitely taught me a thing or two about letting other people use my wifi signal, lol.

Take care ZX, dont let people get you down. I know what its like, trust me. Most of the people that come around this house (aside from that person) are musicians, and all of us know what its like to post a song or a picture or an album somewhere and get shitty reviews and people trying to taunt us and mess with us. Dont ever let stuff like that get you down. You are obviously driven to do something great with your life. Some people will never understand that, and its a natural human reaction to hate and fear things we dont understand.

by the way, thanks for un-banning me. I could have probably used a proxy server to go there anyway, but I shouldnt have to do that based on what someone else did on my ip, so thanks for taking that to heart.

@Josh: first of all, thanks for your kind comments :). I’m porting old stuff, because i like it, and this way, i can play many games of my childhood (i’m an old man ;) ).
Thus, i’m not living in the past, and i like to play also N64, GBA, or ps2 games ;) …

For the OSX port, this is technically impossible (due to the PSP hardware limitation).

Cheers, Zx

Yeah I figured the PSP wouldnt be able to handle it. Sometimes when I’m browsing I run out of memory just by going to Myspace…lol

There’s always classic Mac I suppose. There are some cool bits of sound software on that. I saw there were downloads for something called Basillisk and I tried those but I couldnt get them working. Theres also one for Windows but I havent found it.

By the way I know of a site that has a ton of classic roms for the Sinclair and all of the systems you are into. I dont want to break the rules and post any info for that here but if you want i can send it to you on your own forum or by email or something. It doesnt seem to have anything for the Thom though. Speaking of which, i got your emu for that loaded on my psp but I havent been able to get the games running yet. I never knew of the Thom system until now, but believe it or not I used to have a Sinclair. I had a casette recorder I used to back everything up with. I probably still have the machine somewhere.

and hey, about the cool comments…you totally deserve them, especially after all the bs you went through on here. You are obviously an intelligent hard working person with a lot to offer. So keep at it!

The comment above reminds me of having a Speccy and the trouble getting it to load, you had to have the volume setting just right.

Waiting for 4 minutes then you would get

R Tape Loading Error

AAAAAAGGH!!

The playability squeezed in to some of those old games - we are talking 48K of RAM - was phenomenal…if you could get the buggers to load!

Cheers

Kenny

Many thanks from one of the older gamers who grew up with 8 bit machines.
