So the buzz is that while you need a PS3 right now to dL old games, by Christmas Sony is going to release a firmware where you can dL the game straight to your PSP. So in short, unless you have a PS3, all this firmware says it wait another month…

Yes, I’m referring to about 90% of the above posts…..LET’S JUST RELAX and WAIT for SONY to deal with potential demand for PS1 direct downloads to the PSP. I’m sure they’ll have a firmware update in the future to allow for that. Right now they’re just flexing their PS3 muscles. Once the honeymoon is over for the PS3 / PSP compatability I’m sure they’ll make it happen. In the meantime, perhaps one of the hackers can rip the coding for the emulation and make a PS1 emulator run by itself.

in my opinion xbox360 has already killed the ps3

the xbox360 gameplay, graphic and game content is on a par with ps3 (who watches the game videos anyway!) but has the advantage that it has more titles released, developers are already saying that game are more dificult to produce for ps3 so expect lots of ports from ps2 and even xbox360!

Why pay $600 for a ps3 and $200 for a PSP JUST to play some old arse 32-bit games on one of them? Why waste nearly a thousand dollars just to play games on a system you can buy for 30 bucks used?

Sony really needs to rethink their strategy. If they had released a PSX emulator for use with any ISO (and not just the ones you PAY to download), probably a lot of people would be willing to upgrade to 3.00, even if it means losing homebrew and losing the ability to pirate PSP games. Their greed will continue to be their downfall.

Let me be the only sane one here and say that this update is loads better than any other update (2.0 comes second). If you people are gonna trash the psp update then you all should get rid of your psps because you all dont realize how lucky you all are to have a psp.

One more thing, I am not updating for obvious reasons (TA-082 running HENC) but if I had a job, that would be a different story. I would update then.

Look, I agree with what Hanjo says about Sony providing the PSP, but also with the anger in here at the moment. I appreciate the PSP technically, but it does not mean I have to appreciate the surrounding bullshit - Sony have managed the device so badly, and it continues to be merely a tech demo so long after its release. I go into my local games shop and cannot see more than five good games…Even EA aren’t impressed (and their quality standards are really fucking low - they’d sleep with anybody’s fat granny). Then I go onto the internet to see if anything is different in Japan, and, oh, LikSang is dead.

As for this hoo-ha over PS3 - what a ridiculous move. Although not the same, it is tantamount to Nintendo saying that to download an old NES game to the Wii you would have to make sure your DS was plugged in to the console. “Any reason Nintendo?” “Uhhhh….no, we just figured it was a better way to do it”. i agree that this really sucks, the only useful feature i see in this update is the camera function, but then again i have to buy a camera XD. im not updating, simply beacause i think sony has lost sight of what the market is all about, creating fun for the end user. not the best technology or graphics, because the matter of the fact is that you can have the prettiest graphics of all time, but that doesnt make it fun, hell if you want pretty graphics go get a painting or something. im going with nintendo this year, they seem to be keeping things in perspective instead of trying to rip money out of my pocket.

If i was really that interested in playing PS1 games on the road, i would just go buy a PS1 with the screen on it. Even if i was rich, i wouldn’t spend $600 on PS3, i’ve seen some of the game screen shots and they are very disappointing when compared to the price of the machine. The $250 Wii can keep up with the graphics of the sports games as well as give people something no other system has EVER done before…Interactivity. The Xbox360 Core for $299 has some games that were released when it came out in 2005 that are better than the 2006 Blu-Ray 25GB disks releases. It’s not about how much space the game takes up, it’s a matter of how well the game is coded. A high quality CGI can take up just as much space as a FMV. it’s all in screen resolution, and file length. True, the PS3 does have an advantage of the Blu-Ray player built-in and cost less than the price of 90% of stand-alone Blu-Ray players which would be the MAIN reason I’d even consider buying one. My PS1 and PS2 systems are just like my PSP, capable of playing downloaded disks and therefore my older games would be useless in the PS3. Games selling for $59.99 is a bit much if you ask me. I’d hate to see what they are gonna sell for when the PS4 is released LOL…but, if Sony messes this up like it appears to be going, there will not be a PS4. For once, Nintendo appears to have more appeal than the Sony machine

1. Why on earth would I want to use the lousy controlls of the PSP on an PS3? I would expect the prpopper controlls to be much better.

2 Video play? Theres nothing worth having on the PSP expect what you convertt/DL yourself. Might just as wellconvert to an format already supported if you MUST watch movies.

3 PS1 emulation through an PS3 (lol what will they come up with next) Theres already a pletora of EMUs to the the PSP and I am sure there will be a homebrew PSOne EMU too, and that isnt saddled with all the Sony DRM crap and where you can run your favorite ripped PSOne game.

Also there is so many great *NEW* PSP games that it aint worth losing Homebrew compatibility for this crap (FW3) just to play old stuff so I’ll stick to my FW1.5 ;) all the more so since my PS2 already plays all my PSOne games :)

Sony has a bad approach on PSP. The way I see it, something sneaky is going on.
1. Sony doesn’t want us to run homebrews or any other unsigned software on PSP [why? they could make a lot more money if they allowed clearly from the beginning such a thing for PSP, they could even promote programming this way].
2. Sony allows only .mp4 (and recently added .mpeg with fw 3.00) video files, as well as .mp3 audio files [although they have the knowledge to expand the PSP’s capabilities, they won’t allow it - they could sell a umd that could install a nice psp media player on mem stick or something).

I don’t know what to say, other that Sony didn’t have great plans in store for PSP.

Weak. I have the PS3, but in order to remote access it you have to have 3.0 on the PSP. Will the brains on this site being working on emulating 3.0 considering how well they emulated 2.71? This sucks.

seems like many people don’t know that the whole PS2 is in the ps3…therefore resulting in a ps1 emulation. also, the HD comes VERY usefull because Hardware people like me, KNOWs how to use it…You see many of you might not know linux, but the ps3 is able to run linux, which means you can play your “css/hl2/ut2007/”. There is a reason why i would get a ps3….a very good reason indeed…it’s the cheapest and the best “computer” i can get. for 600USD.

i heard same problems as well

two of my friends up graded to 3.00
and they still cant play .avi sometimes
and the psp shuts off randomly if you are in the middle of an .avi sometimes

also it took sooooo long for the ps3 to sync properly with my friends’s psp

well happy in the sense that my psp is fine becasue i didnt update

but i know like about 10-30 people that updated to 3.00 and their psp kicks them oout when they are watching .avi movies or sometimes it freezes in a black screen in the middle of a .avi movie

and my cousin has a ps3 so he updated when i told him that 3.00 will let u play ps1 games with the ps3.
but then he calles me and hes so pissed becasue it takes about 4 to 7 minutes for the psp the sync with the ps3 when starting a ps1 game, and after it starts its definately not running at full speed.. so hes pissed at me for telling him to update

ok i am going to buy a ps3 but im buying it so i can play a ps3 not a ps1 or ps2. i already own both. i am also buying it for the super cheap blu-ray player. i will not upgrade my sweet 1.5 psp. i dont want it to be a remote for my ps3. i dont want to watch movies on the little psp screen (even if it is VERY high rez). and im not upgrading to play out dated games. so a message to all. “the ps3 is NOT over priced. it is expensive but its understandable.its a damn fine gaming machine and high quality video player. if you want to play old ps1 games. buy a ps1. dont upgrade your psp or buy a second just for crapy features that WILL be emulated shortly. if you do upgrade. expect to be made fun of flamed and called a noob when your asking for a downgrader in 6 months to a year. (look at your history it repeats its self) as far as sony trying to make us upgrade. its because they lose ALOT of money due to pirated umd’s. and as a busness there goal is to make money. I’m currently looking into the 3.0 firmware, and have already developed a devhook to emulate 3.0. Booster and I are currently testing this. Soon you’ll be able to d/l PS1 games directly onto the MS (no flashing involved) and play using a Homebrew PS1 emulator. A release date has yet to be set. I’ll keep you updated. However I can give you a beta if you could join a good friend of mine’s forum.

I still love my psp… I use it every day at work cause I got a sweet job where I pretty much sit on my ass all night. I cant wait for Sony to release their new PSP with hard drives and more flash… thats gonna make things more interesting.

just read on another forum that the new update dont use Flash so devhook wont work…..hope this is wrong time will tell though as it always does.

that makes no sence. firm wear is allways flashed. not every one has another form of memory. so it would not work. and it is screwing up se-b’s meaning it is writing to there flash.

hehe… some many people thought that fw 3.00 has features like playing all homebrew and such… If you think clearly sony would never allow such thing! :)

Well Sony are becoming the biggest bunch of Rip off merchants ever and I’ve been a Sony fan since the ps1. How can they justify all the shit they have pulled off aginst us gamers for the last few months. The closure of Lik Sang was uncalled for. The price of a PS3 way over the top. And you need a PS3 to play PS1 games on your psp and download them what a rip off. I’ve still got all my original ps1 games. So no thanks Sony I’ll wait for someone to make your emulator work with isos thank you very much. Sony some advice start looking after the people who feed you. US GAMERS!!!!!

Dark_AleX, IF you read this: could you try to make it so you can just DL PS1 games off the net and play them on the 3.0 FW? Seems pretty possible IMO. That is, AFTER you finish your other project(s).

oh yeah, 3.01 is ALREADY out. They added some “revisions to strengthen security”. So for those who actually plan to update, do NOT update with the “Network Update” feature. Just download the 3.00 FW off of this site.

guys looolllll sony is ripping us off thats true i live in uae and i know u guys looked everywere to get that ps3 we have it already in uae ready for sell but guess how much………. its 1 thousand 500 dollars guys that made me laugh and psed off but if they make avi format compaitaible with psp ill update my psp from version 2.81 to 3.01 so stop whining its 600 dollars atleast its way cheaper than uae

Gears of War Limited Edition (No game on the PS3 comes close) an Xbox 360 console (which is showing it is just as powerfull as the PS3), 20GB hard drive, wireless controller,headset and 20 gig hard drive etc = 500 dollars . With a mass lineup of AAA titles (many 360 only) being launced between now and March.

PS3 = Weak and bugged release titles, they may be called release titles or they may not depends how long you belive the devs had the hardware devolopment kit (Minus the uneeded blueray) before the release date.(Months or a year ?) and not much better at backward compatibilty than the 360.

i think sony shud let us do what we want with our psp’s, and that INCLUDES NOT UPGRADING, im already at 2.81 and waiting for downgrade to 2.60 or lower, and it fuckin sucks! FUCK U SONY
