Howto Load Custom Gameboots from Memory Stick

greg | November 30, 2006

Here’s a quick ‘n dirty guide to loading custom gameboot videos off your memory stick instead of flash. It’s probably a wise practice if you’re scared to flash due to the certain risks involved.

Quoted from birdman @ maxconsole:

first off get a decrypted 2.71 dump
get a hex editor

with your hex editor look in vsh/module/opening_plugin (of the decrypted dump)
do ctrl+f and find gameboot.pmf

flash0:/vsh/resource/gamboot.pmf

i changed to

ms0:/PSP/SYSTEM/gameboot.pmf

start from the F in flash0:/ and rewrite the whole line

use filer to flash modded opening_plugin to flash0:/vsh/nodle

this is a great mod for those of you who have jamesbdx’s patch and want a custom gameboot.

if you dont have a memory stick in and load a umd, it will just show a gameboot similar to the 0kb gameboot. and game will still work!

greg | November 30, 2006

Dedicated Noob-assistant, Chaos Zero, has kindly packaged DevHook 0.50 into user friendly installers for all those folks having difficulties, and judging by the number of comments I’ve sifted through on the original DevHook v0.50 article, there are quite a few requiring help. Never fear! This will [hopefully] solve all your issues!

DevHook Ultimate Installer v1.5.1:

[ mirror 2 (torrent) ]

  • Install DevHook 0.50 with 2.82
  • Install PSPConv by ZiNgABuRgA
  • Install PSP ISO Compressor v1.4
  • Install PSP Content Manager v1.5

Instructions:

  1. Run the Ultimate Installer v1.5 to put all files on your memory stick.
  2. On your PSP, go to your GAME menu. Select PSAR Dumper.
  3. When the PSAR Dumper loads, press X.
  4. There will be lines of text on your PSP. The 2.82 firmware is now being put on your PSP’s memory stick.
  5. When the dumper is complete, turn off your PSP, not just standby, but right off.
  6. Turn your PSP on and activate the USB Connection.
  7. On your memory card root, you will see a newly created F0 folder.
  8. Run the file “DevHook Setup.bat”
  9. After a second, disconnect the USB and go to your GAME menu. Launch DevHook 0.50.
  10. Go to the “FLASH ROM” menu.
  11. If you flashed the DevHook files from DevHook 0.46, remove those first.
  12. Choose “flash1: < ms0: install configfile". Press circle.
  13. Choose firmware 2.82 in the “FIRMWARE” menu and press “START”
  14. When you enter DevHook, A blue screen will appear saying your setting are corrupt. Press O to solve this.

Of course you can always resort to our forums for further assistance, here or, here.

greg | November 29, 2006

If DevHook v0.50 wasn’t enough for you, I just received note a new version of Daedalus (the N64 emulator) has been spiffed up and released by wally over at dcemu. Though not an official release from StrmnNrmn, it fixes a considerable amount of problems:

OOT being the game that we all love (Though you should get a N64 to play it) is a bit complicated for me at the moment, i am awaiting a reply from strmnNrmn via email which will help me solve those issues. Oh I dont plan to start from the start of OOT, Will do the temples which may help with everything. Marketplace and intro are now fixed

Road Rash : Still trying to figure out why some of the guys only have wheels for a bike but its fun!

Mortal Kombat 4: Menu text,Characters, background i think is related to mirroring.. Powers etc are fixed.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Added ingame stuff however doesnt work properly yet.

Super Smash Bros:
Still working out how to fix this game up good, getting somewhere though

S.C.A.R.S Added Most ingame stuff still not 100%

Sin and Punishment: Works quite well on level 1, never tried level 2, guessing more stuff to implement

Quest 64: Various Fixes (Hasnt been checked yet)

San Fransisco Rush - Isnt quite normal but getting there

As Usual some games might have been fixed up which arent listed here..

DevHook v0.50 Released with FW 2.8X Emulation!

greg | November 29, 2006

You read the title correctly — BOOSTER is back in full effect with a fresh version of DevHook! And yup, firmware 2.80, 2.81, and 2.82 are fully supported — you’ll of course require the decrypted FW dumps to achieve DevHook emulation. There’s also word on the street that 3.00/3.01 may be supported in the very near future.

Huge props to BOOSTER for accomplishing this wonderful feat. And all the other hard-working PSP developers out there.

Enjoy!

New Homebrew — PspIrda v0.0.1

greg | November 29, 2006

MaT has released his first version of the new PspIrda homebrew application. Appropriately titled PspIrda enables infrared file transfer between devices — your PSP, cell phone, PC, etc… Basically any IrDA device compatible with the IrOBEX (Infrared Object Exchange) protocol.

Here’s what MaT had to say:

This version 0.0.1 is a proof of concept.
I know the GUI is ugly but it wasn’t the objective of this release.
The objective was to release something functional to test it with your devices and to have feedback on the compatibility.

The main problem of this release is the transfer speed. It’s slow, really slow; the speed is 9600pbs. It’s not a limitation of the technology which can go up to 115200bps but of the pspsdk which doesn’t include any function to configure the speed of irda port of the PSP. The developers at ps2dev.org are doing an amazing job with the pspsdk and I’m sure they will find us a way to change this.

A debug version is included which dumps output to ‘debug.log’ under the ‘pspirda’ directory on your memory stick. You can pass this file along to MaT if you experience any problems or compatibility issues between devices.

Good job MaT.
