ScummVM 0.9.1 Bugfix Release
greg | October 30, 2006
The ScummVM development team has announced the release of ScummVM v0.9.1!
What’s new in the 0.9.1 bugfix release?
- Fixed potential garbage and/or crash in debug console.
- Removed restriction on 27 games per game id when added via launcher.
- Fixed crashes during scrolling scenes in certain SCUMM games.
- Added saving of thumbnail in SCUMM savegames.
- Improved support for international versions of HE games.
- Other various improvements/fixes

Couldn’t say it better myself…
ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the game, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed!
ScummVM lets you run these adventures: Adventure Soft’s Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2; Revolution’s Beneath A Steel Sky, Broken Sword 1 and Broken Sword 2; Flight of the Amazon Queen; Wyrmkeep’s Inherit the Earth; Coktel Vision’s Gobliiins; Westwood Studios’ The Legend of Kyrandia and games based on LucasArts’ SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) system. SCUMM is used for many games, including Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and more.

Awesome, I’ve been wanting to try this out. So will this run that Secret of Monkey Island game?
Scummalicious
Finaly. I hope the new MD5s are included.
Yep John - it runs “The Secret of Monkey Island”, although I’m not completely sure if (like the Pc build) it will run other versions of “The Secret of Monkey Island” from other formats. I did try it with .adf format (Amiga), and it didn’t work. I’d love somebody to tell me if (and how) it is possible. (If you are interested you can get the Atari St version working very well through the “CaSTaway” emulator, and it’s a slightly stripped-down version of the game, great if, like me, you like playing it across the formats it was released on).
Let me know how you get on,

I do realise, by the way, that you have to run it with an executable - just not sure how to extract the files from the disk image…

omg broken sword 1 & 2 amazing games :p thank you
Just look at that list of games!! ScummVm rules!
Do the games actually run at a playable speed now? i tried broken sword before and it was painfully slow and unplayable
Does this support Maniac Mansion Deluxe?
Hopefully…
MMNR, here is a direct quote from the ScummVM website FAQ page:
“1.6. When will Maniac Mansion Deluxe be supported?
The short answer: never. The long answer: This game is a fan-made replica of the original ‘Maniac Mansion’. It is not the same game as ‘Maniac Mansion Enhanced’, which we do support. It features improved music, sound, 256-colour graphics and reworked game interface. It was made using the ‘Adventure Game Studio’ which is a free, albeit closed-source graphics adventures engine. There are Windows, Linux and FreeBSD versions of the engine. Its author keeps his source code closed due to reasons explained in the project FAQ (see last two questions). That means that you need to download that program to play the game”.
Hope that helps, even if it is disappointing. I’m personally a big fan of the remake.
