The man with the master plan, a.k.a. Dark_AleX, has made a few slight adjustments to the highly favoured 2.71 Special Edition Revision B firmware. Those interested can fetch a copy below. What’s new? Quoted from the Readme:
Changes:
- Fixed the problem of crashing if the iso folder didn’t exist
- Added experimental no umd mode. By default it is disabled.
New configurations:
- Use NO-UMD. It will enable the NO-UMD mode, whose compatibility is currently unknown, and probably less compatible than UMD mode. This is the main reason to release this quick update, to know more or less the compatibility of this no-umd mode.
- Use isofs driver also in UMD-inserted mode (in advanced). You probably don’t have to touch this, it’s mainly done for myself. If you do it, you may decrease the compatibility of UMD mode.
Note that if you want to change from NO-UMD mode to UMD mode, you have to do it in recovery. Because even if you have an umd inserted, but you have the NO-UMD in settings, the CF will use the method of umd emulation of NO-UMD, which differs a lot from the UMD one and may have a very different compatibility.
To update: run the new update from the GAME150 folder, in 2.71 SE-A or 2.71 SE-B.

oh, dammit i dont understand it. what means the 2.71 SE Revision A, B? will this be executed on the 1.5 fw or on the 2.71 fw.? and which fw-version is better 1.00, 1.5 or 2.71? and is it is a risc when i will downgrade from 1.50 to 1.00? and when ill downgr. from 1.5 to 1.00 can i use a japanese 1.00 upgrader? i think dis will be required when ill downgr. from 1.5 to 1.00. so ma psp is a european vision.

KID.. the 2.71SE is a CUSTOM FIRMWARE. It is neither 2.71 nor 1.5.. It’s a firmware that offers you both the features of 2.71, as well as features of 1.5. Read more yourself.

Everytime I go to emulate a firmware it freezes up on me…I wanted to Emulate it so I could use CW Cheat…but it just wont let me Emu. It….I appreciate any Help

i really don’t get it though, why not having a UMD in the drive?… it’s small, weights 2 grams, it doesn’t bother you to have it inside the UMD drive, and, it’s another game to have with you on the go.
so, what’s the point in not having a UMD inside???
#26 killzone works for me. the only game i had a hard time with was atv off road fury pro. i had to load it in device hook with 2.71 (Flash) and it worked. now it works from the game folder when i try it. strange.

does this fix any of the game running issues people were experiencing? like when i was trying to run fight night r3 it would shut off randomly on me, but most of the time while i was trying to load from one round to another in the middle of a fight.

I had the same freezing as #11, but the RECOVERY mode helped me out to restore V1.50. (Hold R when starting up PSP). 2.71SE-B didn’t work really well for me, but thanks for implementing that mode, it saved my console !
Hmm this could be an issue with the game we are trying to run. Killzone works for me now I got the full iso and cso’d it. Those games listed that are working are they ripped or full iso’s? iso or cso format? it would be better if we can take a note of that also
how do i get this to work. i upgraded using the seb-2, but how do i actually get the game to run?
i have a busted UMD drive by the way, having trouble running ISO’s….i’ve installed the SEB-2, and the games do show up when i go on the memory in the PSP interface. but when i select them, nothing happens. am i suppose to do somethhing before i can play ISO’s without a UMD, again my drive is broken.

wait til your UMD drive is busted buddy (only a matter of time), you’ll understand why.

Anyone can tell me how to play UDM video iso with 2.71 SE? That’s the only feature i missed from 1.5 using UMD emulator.

no it dose not work on any TA-082 even if it was downgraded using 0okom’s Soft Down (witch he has stopped doing). If you have had your psp soft downed DO NOT UPDATE TO ANYTHING EVER IT WILL CAUSE A BRICK!!! and to update to any 2.71 SE you have to have a 1.5 (none TA-082) PSP.

@33:Some people have broken their UMD drives and some people don’t own any UMD games they pirate their games (you know how).
@45: You have to enable the NO-UMD feature in the recovery mode. Read the Readme.txt thats why it’s there.
@47: No, it doesn’t work on TA-082s, hardly anything does, just face the fact that you’re stuck with the cursed motherboard. No matter how much you beg DAX he won’t make it work on a TA-082
Broken parts aren’t a matter of time, it’s a matter of use and abuse. I’m not saying you abuse your stuff, I’m just saying that the more you use it the more likely it is to break. It’s called ‘wear and tear’. I’ve broken my analog stick before and it’s not cause Sony has low quality manufacturing processes, it’s because I’m rough on the analog controller. Be kind to your gear and be careful with it, you paid a lot of money for it. Now, you can flame me all you want for this comment, I don’t care, but, if you do it’s ’cause you know I’m right.
I don’t care about the no umd drive but for people who have a broken drive it’s very useful. As far as getting this to work you have to have Custom Firmware Revision B2 2.71 with it up to date. When you power on your psp hold the r button to enter recovery mode then enter configuration mode and in configuration there is an option to disable or enable the no umd option. Yes this custome firmware can brick your psp but if you follow instructions you shouldnt have a problem if you are an newb stick with devhook. But if you have average intelligence of the psp. You should really give this a try besides you can always go back to 1.5
People need to learn to read more carefully and this is VERY useful for me because my umd drive is busted and i cant wait for SE-C which is said will be able to boot most if not all of the isos with no umd also can someone email me telling me if using dev hook 2.71 will brick my psp and if it wont brick my psp then please email me a link to the latest version of dev hook 2.71 my email is jstn_alford@yahoo.com thanks!
@53: It’s not the same as reading carefully, but, people also need to do a little of their own leg work to find the things they want. Go to the forums section and use the search function, this is what it’s there for. ChaosZero has made a very nice auto installer (as usual) for 2.71SE-A&B as well as 2.71 devhook. No it won’t brick your psp, and no I won’t email you a link. That’s what the forum search function is for. There is a link for it in the forums and I’m sure there is a tutorial as well.

although that’s mostly true, Ild like to add my experience to make it more accurate. I take very good care of my psp, I had only had it for about a month and used it on rare occasion. by whatever slim chance and how the hell knows how, a spec of hard plastic, smaller than the lead tip of a pencil got into my umd drive and now its busted. I havent been able to play any real psp games until hopefully now ( in progress of installing ).

This is sweet. SEB2 is the ultimate firmware so far. I have installed everything so far without any issues.

what is the meaning of UMD AND NO-UMD. i know that it means you can play isos without a umd but what is the meaning for umd, can download an iso and have a different umd game inside the psp?
