Some 2.71 SE-B Installers

greg | October 26, 2006

For those totally clueless and/or entirely new to the scene, ChaosZero has returned with some new “noob-friendly” installer packages for the latest 2.71 Special Edition firmware. Although it’s as simple as copying files to the correct location on your memory stick, this method is even easier — you cannot mess this up! Download whichever installer package you desire, connect your PSP to an available USB port, and run the executable. Of course some additional goodies are included with each…

SE-A to SE-B Update
[ Download ]

  • Self explanatory.

SE-B New User Build
[ Download ]

  • Straight install 2.71 SE-B with DevHook (2.71).

SE-B FULL Build:
[ Download ]

  • Upgrade from SE-A to SE-B
  • Install 2.71 SE-B with DevHook (2.71)
  • Install 2.71 SE-B with DevHook (1.50) GUI Mod and 2.71 Firmware (In SE-A, this played games 2.71’s DevHook wouldn’t)
  • Just SE-B, no DevHook
  • Just DevHook (2.71), no SE-B
  • Install RECOVERY Folder for downgrading to 1.50.

SE-B LITE Build:
[ Download ]

  • Upgrade from SE-A to SE-B
  • Install 2.71 SE-B with DevHook (2.71)
  • Install RECOVERY Folder for downgrading to 1.50.

Notes:
Game menu freezing error:
you MUST have a GAME folder and a GAME150 folder…
Then you can boot Recovery Mode, enter Configuration, Change “Game folder homebrew” to 1.50 kernel and exit.
Only after that you can make a GAME and a GAME271 folder.

Game menu responding slow at times:
Whenever you do an update to the ISO folder (add, delete, change files, first SE-B execution), a little delay will occur when entering in memory stick games. While the ISO folder is not changed, this won’t happen.

TA082? i checked behind my UMD door, and there’s no letters on the board? does that mean it’s not a TA082?

@Post 5. Pretty much, as long as there are definately no numbers where the image shown everywhere shows. If you look closely, you’ll see a an upside down number, half covered on the left side though. That’s not the TA number, so don’t worry about that (only mentioning this, because I had to have this confirmed myself).

@Post 4. Unfortunately, no. I think DA’s planning to get it into 2.71 SE-C. But it’s not in yet. Just keep waiting and keeping your fingers crossed (but man, that must be the most practical reason for using .iso’s/umd emulation ever).

Hi all…Just wondering to myself….is ther any need for device hook to be put onto my PSP v2.71 SE-B?

I dont see the piont in putting it on when all games will now run directly from GAME>MEMORY STICK, without the need for devhook.

anyone fill me in on this…?

P.S. Devhook NANDflash didnt let me play Killzone…but the normal GAME> MEMORY STICK 2.71 SE-B runs it no problems showing me ther is no use for devhook atm…until 2.80+ emulation ofc. :D

Anonny-x-mas, it’s because you don’t kow what it is, and you don’t understand. This custom firmware is way better than 1.50. If you can’t understand CZ’s pack, then go with my pack:

Am I still correct in thinking that only 99% of 1.50 homebrew works on SE-B?

Comment by Zephyrus
2006-10-26 14:55:01

Actually it’s 99.9%. Only a small portion with SFO (that can be fixed) doesn’t work. Almost all others should work, so yeah.. For me, I treat it as 100% compatiblity. =P

Yuriy, its because most of the 1.5 stuff already works in this version of SE-B. You’ll see later on some stuff for 1.5 or 2.71 SE-X (lol), but for these past 2 weeks, its just the hype of custom FW, since everybody has been dreaming, ranting about. Compared from last year of the same time, this is worth the wait, as the evolving psp development continues. I myself is still waiting on an update on Ruckus the PSP 1.5 prog for Deejay’s, but seems no one is working on it.

So how do I downgrade to 1.5 from 2.71 SE-B? I hope there’s a safe way to go back. I can’t get any 1.5 homebrew to even come up in the memory stick and the PSP locks up with the memory card light on. What directories should there be and where shoud I put the homebrew? 2.71-A worked perfect and I upgraded to 2.71-B.

36. No you do not have to upgrade, but you may have to downgrade to 1.5.

37. There is a recovery mode built in that will downgrade back to 1.5.

Both you guys do yourself a favor a download ChaosZero’s installer. It will make everything much easier for you.

Does anyone know about Edison Carter’s cheat device? If is doesnt work with 2.71 SE, can I boot 2.6 w/ devhook from 2.71 SE for it to work?

@36 - No, you need to be at 1.5, then run the installer.

@37 - If you have a recovery folder set up with the 1.5 fw in it, you should be able to hold R for recovery mode during boot-up and you should be able to downgrade once more. As for the freezing/slowness, the remedy for it is in the original post. Follow that and you’re set

@23&25: first you turn off your PSP, then turn it back on with your R trigger pressed down, then you’ll enter the recovery menu, after that, choose the option for you to return back to 1.5 and make sure you have a 1.50 UPDATE.PBP inside PSP/GAME/RECOVERY folder. ^_^

@30: see if you have a ta-082, if you don’t upgrade to 2.71 and downgrade to 1.50, after which you can install this with ease.

@36: the SE can only be installed on a 1.5 PSP, so upgrade your 2.6 to 2.71, downgrade to 2.71 with the update flasher, then you can install this with ease.

To everyone, go get my pack because it has a freaking detailed readme plus it’s in zip archive that works for all OS systems:

I still don’t see a BIG advantage or difference between this and having my 1.5 for all homebrew and devhook with 2.71 firmware. With 1.5 i’m guaranteed that all my homebrew and cheat devices , emulators…..everything without having to do anything ,I meen the only “pain” if you can even call it that is to start devhook when i want to play a ISO or UMD… really no big deal at all, and then i know that all my emulators will work perfectly. The only way i think I would consider this I think is if and when they come out with a “no UMD required version” maybe then. The drive on my psp works fine but I understand they tend to brake……….Peace.

just wait for Version C, thats’s what im doing. I have a 1.5, well, 2 of them, both for deejaying, using Ruckus. But I’ll wait for Version C so my GTA umd wont be further circular scratched. For NO UMD support, just wait for Version C. Just wait, if D_A got this far to load ISOs without devhook, im sure they’ll get to the NO UMD part.

@59. You can have any method, just read slowly on the different varaiety of packages offered by Chaos Zero, so it can click to your head that any style is offered. Just not for any FW above 2.71. Basically, there is a Fresh install (like windows xp booting from CD) then there’s the other to upgrade (like windows xp CD booting inside Windows 2000 or 98 from desktop) sort of a ok example. But the best recommended is having 1.5 first (for a fresh install).

Comment by Zephyrus
2006-10-27 13:31:30

@51: run recovery mode by holding R trig down while starting up ur PSP, then enable the Skip SCE logo, then you’ll go to home even if there’s a UMD in the drive.

@52: you can put this on, just upgrade to 2.71, downgrade with update flasher, then you’ll get a 1.5 which you can use my pack to run the SE-B upgrade.

@53: it is recommended that you have a clean 1.5 with the maximum space u can have on flash0, so, just upgrade to 2.71, downgrade with update flasher (it will format the flash0 while downgrading to ensure u have a clean 1.5) and you can install SE-B with my pack with ease. ^_^

Again, for those who needs a link to my pack, which includes a complete guide/readme typed personally by myself (with the aid of the original readme that came with SE) for 1 hour+, you can download it here:

@59: if you have a 1.50, go ahead with the installation of the SE-B, you don’t need SE-A to be installed first. But, if you already have SE-A installed, then just get the upgrade pack from SE-A t SE-B. ^_^

Another question: The Revovery folder in the Game directory shows up as a corrupt icon. I ended up moving it out of that directory so I don’t have to see it. I’m assuming I’d have to move it back if I ever wanted to go into recovery mode to revert to 1.50… but there must be a way to hide the corrupt icon instead? And yes, I do have ‘Hide Corrupted Icons’ enabled. :)
