Drats! Bad news — Lik-Sang has closed down:
Hong Kong, October 24th of 2006 - Lik-Sang.com, the popular gaming retailer from Hong Kong, has today announced that it is forced to close down due to multiple legal actions brought against it by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited and Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. Sony claimed that Lik-Sang infringed its trade marks, copyright and registered design rights by selling Sony PSP consoles from Asia to European customers, and have recently obtained a judgment in the High Court of London (England) rendering Lik-Sang’s sales of PSP consoles unlawful.
Any outstanding orders will be cancelled and you’ll be refunded. As promised by Lik-Sang, “No single customer will be caught in the crossfire of this ordeal.” Such a shame. :(

Can I give you a go after Sony is finished?
I am utterly dissapionted at sony for their actions. all I can say is good luck to the staff at Lik-sang and keep up the good work on this site. if the corporation is going to act in such a manner, then it should be fought in kind. keep up the good work with the homebrew and other software. I like to say that my PSP is jap, an original fw 1.0 and has done me proud since its release, i received very swiftly thanks to Lik-sang. I shall not be buying the PS3, if I do, it will not be european conformed. It is a shame Lik-sang cannot fight the goodfight but im glad to hear that they are still looking after their loyal customers to the end. RIP LIK-SANG

It’s unfortunate about Lik-Sang closing.. and that Sony is Microsoft SCUM.. But the fact is Lik-Sang signed a contract with Sony to sell only to certain regions (HK, asia or whatever). If a regular company bought the PSPs from a company like Lik-Sang and sold the PSPs to other countries, then they are not doing anything against any contracts, since they didn’t sign one. What can you say, Sony is Microsoft SCUM!!

This started because lik-sang made psp available in the UK before sony made a UK psp. I hate Sony. Ive bought over $500.00 worth of games and accesories from lik-sang, and they have been great to work with. They were the “newgg.com” for consoles and games. We have lost something great.

I was going to say “yet another reason to say FUCK SONY”, but so many others have shared this sentiment already.
One thing I’d like to add though, is that there may be a bit of strategy to all of this on Sony’s part. It’s very aggressive when you think about it. If I’m not mistaken, Lik Sang is the company who just came out with a touch screen that clips onto the PSP. The new generation PSPs that are supposed to be coming out next year are obviously going to be made harder to crack and the incentive to buy them and thier games will be the new touch screen feature Sony plans on adding to those units. Sony targeted Lik Sang to disable homebrew users from upgrading touch screen functionality to the 1.5

I agree with the above comments about the other companies - Microsoft are bastards, period, and Nintendo’s business strategy in the early 1990s in terms of the contracts they put across to developers were not just unfair, but illegal. Nintendo are a business too, and although I respect them more for at least bringing something else to the table (more “honest” gaming innovation), I would not trust them to rescue me from a hole.
Nevertheless, this does not ignore the fact that Sony’s own practices have been exceptionally dodgy recently: the price of the PS3 (working out at around £425/$750-800), a failure to establish the PSP properly, and now this legal action against Lik-Sang. I personally bought my JPN 1.0 PSP on import because of the following reason: the U.K. and Ireland were not going to get the PSP for a year after the Japanese launch. Sony have only got themselves to blame, and in this sense fuck them - this annoys people in Europe a lot more than in America, because we are tired of being told that we will get a piece of hardware by Christmas and then get fucked over with a March release date, and that EXTORTIONATE price point, not to mention shitty NTSC>PAL conversions, and a general lack of respect. What would have been embarrassing was that the price of a Japanese import console would, perhaps by March, be cheaper (and certainly cheaper after that, presuming no shortages in Spring) than buying the thing in the U.K. or Ireland. I think this has a lot to do with Bluray though, as if everybody in the U.K. and Ireland bought imported consoles they probably would not support the Bluray technology in local shops (due to the specific region-locks on the Bluray drive, unlike the half-lock of the PSP, which allows it to work film UMDs from the East). Obviously it has to do with Sony Europe meeting figures for sales probably set down by Sony Central. Word on the street is, anyway, that Sony are not even guaranteeing the figures they quoted for the U.S. launch anyway, so good luck guys, and good luck to the rest of Europe, because March is not even a set date. This does not really cover the fact that I cannot afford a PS3 and a high-definition television to enjoy it on, and I do not know many people (including those with children growing up into the present generation) who could.
The best thing that can happen now is for a Minidisc or Betamax-style failure of Bluray, and, oh, I haven’t forgotten Rootkit. Fuckers. I will be doing my best to encourage HD-DVD take-up by any richer consumers I meet, and will hope for a well-organised boycott.
