First thing that is happening now is that they try to force us to update because software (games) require it. Next thing, and I bet right after the holliday season, they will introduce the new PSP hardware with THE missing feature “Touch screen”. And you can count on it the new hardware will have the latest software updates and the possibility to downgrade will be hardware-fixed… Everybody is buying the old PSP’s now to make sure they have no TA-082 and/or FW 2.71+ and when the old storage is off the shelves it will be filled by brand new PSP type II’s

i have Firmware 2.71SE-A but how can i play .dax files? .iso’’s are oke ;D but i cant play .dax :( someone knows why?

You can either get the DAX addon for DevHook and use that to play DAX directly, or you can get the DAX – CSO / ISO converter and pre convert it on your computer, either way you will need Devhook or another ISO loader program

If you have a 1.5, you will always be able to play any game made for the Nintendo, SNES, Turbographix 16, Sega Genesis, PS One, N64, and who knows how many other systems will be added, plus theres all the old school shit like Colecovision and Atari. You can load Macintosh and Windows systems on there, PDA software, universal remote that controls over 2000 devices….then theres DOOM and QUAKE, and all the user mods for those like HELLRAISER DOOM. Plus, think about it, its an OPEN SYSTEM…and we all know Sony HATES that….why? Because from now through eternity 1.5 users will constantly be able to add new levels of functionality to their systems. Homebrew apps are constantly under development. War lost? I think not.

As long you have the funds (as certain others do), could be spent on research. Just because new firmwares have advanced security, doesn’t mean they could not cracked. May seem hard to beat, but I suggest trying to perform research (hoping to find a real loophole).

Look on the bright side, they achieved progress up to 2.71, and they’ll do it again (as long life doesn’t take over). It may seem rougher to crack, but do we give up? Nooo, for those who support homebrew, shall contribute a bit of input (even myself). Spent my 2 cents for the day.

@52, Right now it doesn’t look good, it seems like 2.8 is a pretty solid build, ofcourse that’s what we thought about 2.71 aswell, but that got hacked aswell.

No one can give a estimate really, as nobody knows when it would be possible, hopefully Sony screws up with their next added features.

If Sony pulls their collective head out of their collective ass and lets us use unsigned code (homebrew) in 3.0, it would give me a reason to look forward to updating my PSP.

54– i talked to a Sony rep at Gamestop and she was really nice. She actually thought homebrew was kind of cool and was impressed “to see people pushing the limitations of the technology”, and she went on to say that there was something called PSP Underground, a site I guess, where you could send Sony emails requesting that they include homebrew capability in future firmwares, and that they actually would read these emails and take it into consideration, so you may indeed be onto something. Though I cant imagine how they would ever allow things like the Fastloader. Even though its a very useful tool to preserve the life of a UMD drive, its also been used to copy games people dont even own. So I can see how they would be a bit spiteful about that and I really dont know how they would go about implementing homebrew capability while removing any and all access to those specific functions. I suppose this is a rare moment for me, as this is about as civil as I can get when it comes to Sony vs Homebrew. Even though I never became one of those poor souls with a bricked TA-082 system, I think its really shitty that they set up something like that for people to buy and have self destruct on them while installing things they dont want. I’ll never let that shit go.

think of it this way, there’s a little slot in the .prx for all the fonts, and this ppf is told to put the font in another slot, and the next ppf [if there is going to be one] will also be told to put one in the same slot, and it will wig out on ya……but like i said, i’m working with Halo Maps, not .prx’s….but the same theory shuld apply

Ok guys, this game and others should work fine under 2.8, they may require a little update here and there as they use the new features of 2.8 (which there is lack of) but they will work…

Simply use the 2.xx -> 2.00 option in Devhook which can be found under “OTHER MENU” -> “UMD SFO VERSION” -> 2.xx to 2.00 on devhook 0.46 and “UMD VERSION” -> 2.xx -> 2.00 under devhook 0.45.

If you use this the game will run as best as it can under 2.71, all we need to do is patch the games as they come out to run under 2.71, its not that big of a deal….

And as for my 2 cents, yes this game is gay, very very gay, sorry but it is… And im a Star Trek fan, but this is really really gay…

It was a little less than a year ago that Liberty City Stories hit the streets. It was not compatible with any loader, and people began to panic. Plenty of firmware updates have appeared and been ousted since then. Sony may temporarily be ahead of the game, but it never lasts more than a few months. If Vice City Stories is not playable at first, it eventually will be. If this is so, there are plenty of awesome titles to play until then.

I play my psp when I have diarreah. it helps calm my nerves…

i agree with 42. – the only reason i got a psp is to play retro games on the go. and no new game will make me change how i have my hacked psp setup. I would soon buy another system then give up homebrew. Personally i know there are a lot of psp users who do think that way and do own more than one psp.

but i think sony has learn from there mistakes, yes the psp is very hackable.and yes you can limit homebrew in future version but it is a uphill battle for both sides with very little rewards for eaither side. Constant firmware updates can scare away users. while making it a pain to develop on so games are either crappy or take forever to come to market.

but like i said they have learn from there mistakes. Firmwares are getting harder and harder to hack. and they don’t come out as often. Moreover they are opening up the psp to allow it to run emulation, in which the ps1 is the only system they can emulate.
i don’t think there will ever be a legal sony snes emu for the psp. picture Nintendo’s lawyers attacking sony.

This really just leaves future intergration with the ps3 a the last hope for the psp till sony settles with a fimeware. it might be 2.81 for now but i know that will not stay that way. i would hedge my bets that 3.0 will prolly change things and make a lot of people upgrade just for instant ps1 emu lushness. but i know that FW will be cracked, jsut cause people will want it for free. but that is the point, no matter how hard you make it some one will hack it.

but there will always be users who will not use the hacks. i know ps2 users who have never seen a sony hardrive and don’t know you can back up games. And they buy tons of games, sad f*cks. there will always be homebrew maybe not on the current FW but on some FW. And that will always be a thron in sony’s side.

But sony jsut can’t stop they have a partnership with the developers to stop homebrew at all cost. and that is what they will try to do … and so goes the corpate cycle till they stop supporting the psp. But in the end the users will win out becuase when that happends all hell will break loose on the psp, if it hasn’t yet before then.

and until that day these arguments are pointless, except in the fact it is just proof of what i just said. So get a life sony developer & friend guy, you suck cuz your just as disposable to sony as any other lackey, and your dumb enough not even to realize it.

I think they would lose less money by just porting existing PS2 games over to the PSP…then the development cost is only for the conversion and all they have to worry about is manufacture and distribution. Even advertising is covered since the games would already be promoted for the PS2 and possibly even other platforms, so even if they dont do well on the PSP those sales can still cross over from that advertising into those other sales areas to catch the fall….as opposed to making games exclusive to the PSP and investing tons of money in advertising and development, only to have the market bottom out from lack of interest due to excessive firmware faggotry.

PS- I’d like to see Bully on the PSP, and Resident Evil would be nice.

Everytime sony comes out with something new they manage to screw it up. A perfectly decent device becoming a piece of $h1t because there are so few good games.

Pirating is probably not a big deal because good game do make money. If pirating doesn’t exist poeple will mostly borrow games or not buy at all. I laugh at people calculating lost money to pirating when in fact you can’t scientifically prove that they are inversely equal (ie: if pirating can’t be practiced people will not necessarily buy the games instead. Free $h1t is always attractive but it doesn’t mean people want to spend $$$ on them otherwise – dumb ass hypocrites).
