There are rumors that Booster is waiting for more 2.8 games to come out until he releases the version of devhook that will run 2.8…

This is a smart move, because it stops sony from releasing another pointless update just to make games that need a newer firmware, creates less work booster so everyone is happy, i think Devhook for 2.8 will be out soon, just be patient, and even if Devhook for 2.8 isnt released there is another thing to look forward to..

You see, firmware 2.8 dosnt really have any new features in terms of the SDK in the firmware that the games use, therefore, these new games should work under 2.71, the only thing holding them back is that they check the actual firmware version, all someone needs to do is alter the 2.71 firmware (or Dark_Alex could alter) 2.71 SE to indicate that it is 2.8 to the UMDs and voila we can play UMDs, and if we could do the same for the emulated 2.71 (which shouldnt be too difficult) we should be able to play these UMDs on 2.71 emulated as ISOs as well…

So dont despair, someone will come up with another idea even if devhook dosnt come out…

I find it rather funny that people will judge the entire contents of a game simply by looking at the art of a box. If memory serves, the box art to Kingdom of Paradise 1 was decidely bland and unimaginative, but I found the game to be rather enjoyable, as did many review sites, giving the game an average score of 8/10. If the sequel does not botch up the concepts and foundations set in place by the original, then I’d wager that KoP2 will prove to be a pretty decent title as well.

On another note, I first wish to thank all the homwbrew developers for all of their hard work on making the PSP homebrew scene what it is today. I still remember when running homebrew software on any firmware above 1.50 was “impossible”. Oh, how far we have progressed since then!

With that said, I find it -extremely- annoying when people start ranting and complaining about the developers of the homebrew software for not releasing updates “on time”. Companies like Sony have millions of dollars in resources and a staff of hundreds or more, and can thusly be held accountable for missing deadlines. Most of these homebrew developers however, create this software for their own enjoyment. This is done on their own time, with their own resources, in addition to the rest of their daily lives. They share their personal creations and discoveries with the general public, which we take for granted, and how do we repay them? We chastize them for not meeting “our standards”. Please do not forget that these developers are sharing their software out of their own generosity, and therefore owe us absolutely -nothing-.

So, before you whiners go about complaining that updates aren’t released “on time”, I suggest that you stop leeching someone else’s hard word and first provide your own contribution to the public. A suggested first step would be to first remove your heads which you have so throughly implanted up your arses.

noob question. i have a PSP 1.5 with broken UMD drive. i know how to play games that require 2.0 firmware on my psp using devhook without a UMD. how can i do the same with newer games. again. i have a broken UMD drive. so it has to be a No-UMD method. please help, im sick of playing ridge racer, thanks.

lol ridge racer is gay….i had the same problem but my umd drive was like, functional for a few minutes and then it would start conking out on me. the UMD devhook launcher methods still worked because the amount of reading the drive had to accomplish was the bare minimal requirement of what the PSP needed in order to acknowledge that there was a disc in the drive. hence if your drive is only PARTIALLY functional, you should still be able to do it.

#69 no no there is a feature in devhook that says “umd version” usually its no change since there is no umd’s that require 2.8+ up to now but u can change that to say 2.xx->2.00 that was for the old devhook that only could emulate 2.50> so if a game required 2.6 u can run it on 2.5 same concept but this time with 2.71 but the “umd version” feature is in every devhook and if the 2.8 update didn’t really update teh SDK or anything like that we would be able to change it to require 2.00 and there u would be able to launch it in 2.71 :) (hopefully my plan works)

and furthermore, I think the Fastloader is a legitimate gamer tool and sometimes very necessary for users with damaged UMD drives, or games packed with stuff that has the UMD constantly working overtime, like Liberty City Stories. I OWN Liberty City Stories and I only play it when I back it up to the memory stick because the gameplay is flawless and smooth, and wont wear out my UMD drive or my battery time. How programs like this are used is entirely dependant upon the individual. I dont get software like this and go “oh wow I want to pirate games now!!”, but some people may. Then again those are the same people who might just shoplift the games they want anyway if they have no other option. I’ll tell you what though, when a big company like Sony pushes it’s customers around like this and becomes so blatantly adversarial, one really begins to stop giving a shit about giving them a fucking DIME…

Definitely agree with The Instigator…as ranty as he sounded there. I loved Sony when the PS2 came out but they’ve done nothing but go downhill since…though I am greatfull that they made the PSP in the first place. I really don’t think they should be SO opposed to homebrew since, at this point, it’s the only force driving most PSP sales.
