gameplaySP v0.8 Released
greg | October 9, 2006
Exophase with another great release of gameplaySP, or gpSP for short. gpSP is a Gameboy Advance emulator for the PSP and its quickly maturing with every version — v0.8 features:
- # Fixed bug in dead flag elimination, “alt” version no longer needed.
- # Fixed EEPROM saves being saved as 32kb instead of 512bytes/8kb
- + 32MB ROM support has been added. ROMS are “demand loaded” as necessary and page swapped out; there might be a small loading lag, but I have yet to ever really notice anything. NOTE: 32MB ROM support only works for unzipped ROMs.
- + Save states have been added. See the save state menu for save/load options.
- + Support for the real-time clock (RTC) chip in Pokemon cartridges and other games. The implementation is based off of VBA’s, whatever notes on gbadev I could find, and some of my own reverse engineering of what the games do… it might not be totally correct. Also, setting the time does not work.
- + Per-game configuration. Currently this only saves frameskip and frameskip variation options.
- + Removed the flash type option from the menu and instead added it to game_config.txt. Hopefully got everything - let me know if you find something that isn’t there. It’s pretty easy to add them if you have to.
- + Added a display in the upper left-hand corner to indicate when fast-forward is on.
- + Added button bindings for save/load state.
- @ Found a fix of StrmnNrmn proportion: far too much unnecessary mutex synchronization was going on. Removing the two offending lines of code gave a massive speed boost for free. Enjoy.
Changelog legend: # bug fix, + feature addition, @ optimization.

I’ve been waiting for this for ages.
CHICKEN AND GRAPE DRINK FOR ALL!!!!!
Thank you for your great contributions, I’m gonna go try this out nao, plaucks.
Excellent release, this will make nick happy for a while.
And done you mean Turkey and cranberry?
Golden Sun works ^_^
Hell yeah!
Keep the fucking awesome work up guys!
Cool, gonna try it right now. Hope it’ll speed up mario sports games.
Woot Good Job
This is cool best emu on psp thx man your the best in emulator scene specially for psp.
!!!he failed to mention that a new game is supported,KINGDOM HEARTS CHAIN OF MEMORIES!!!(you have to mess with the intro movie a bit. press a & b alot when you see it. if it freezes restart and try again. it will work, cause im playing it now.)
Golden Sun 1 is almost there!
BTW, F-Zero Maximum Velocity runs GREAT wth 0 frameskip. I wonder why mode7 works better with GBA emulator than Snes9xTYL.
Kirby and the Amazingt mirror seems to have gotten broken in this release (i ran it on 0.7), it causes a crash right after you are off the screen with the star when you are about to go to first stage. BTW, awesome work guys!!! no frameskip for most games, such as mario vs. donkey kong (i love that game), and the frameskip for ff4 “cutscenes” is now down to around 2 :D I can live with that just great! I will agree, best PSP Emu!!!!
absolutely amazing addition of the RTC, can’t wait to play pokemon the way they should be played (not that I’m sure if the RTC is essential, but it’ll make the experience that bit more genuine).
I don’t suppose anyone knows if the bad jump errors have been fixed in Legacy Of Goku?
How do I install over 0.5 version?
Should I delete from the memory card first?
Yes, rip out the old version before you install the new one, that way you wont have any conficts
Party on
where do i find the gameboy advance image bios??? can some1 help me thx!
It doesn’t work with eloader thought.
@ #15: Don’t ask for illegal items, plaucks.
Do all GBA ROMs under 32mb will they are compressed (.zip)?
Tested last night….it’s true…it’s even FASTER now.
Wow.
#18 don’t compress them
well done,
the RTC feature is awesome (i didn’t tested it yet, but i guess pokemon has some time based events, just think of the stats-guru and stuff!)
i’m going to test this now (:
thx for the release and your hard work…
gz. bubu
this is the shit to bad kingdom hearts still frezzes
Too bad Zelda (Minish) still crashes in this version. It happens the moment you fire the Flame Lantern when fighting the boss for the 3rd element.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem?
Does anyone know what the gba bios are called? i tryed doing a google search but cant find em.
Wow, just wow. 11 got it right, its the best psp emu ever. Keep up the awesome work man, Ill be rooting for
version 0.9! Savestates, 32mb rom support, and ANOTHER speed boost. Unbelievable..
LOL @ “Found a fix of StrmnNrmn proportion” XD
Great work, thanks a lot.
Damn it i tried and tried i can’t get passed the intro of Kingdom hearts chian of Memories!
@23, ya, mine crashes toO at the very same part (zelda/minish). it’s a good game but it sux that it does that. FUCK!
Um….when did this go from being called “gb”SP to “gP” SP….in any case, this is another fine release of the BEST emu on the PSP!!! You can really see the overall speed increase on Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo…and just about ANY 2D scroller…but Sega Arcade Gallery still chugs. In any case, we’re about %90 to perfection with this one…and I’m STILL tempted to put my GBA on ebay in the meantime!!!
uhhh, where do i put the fuckin rom?
in a directory in the same place you put the emulator.
cool… this one little bit faster than previous version
well do i have to name it something special?
p.s. i read the readme, i still need help
When one guy does a good job, you praise him… When one guy puts a lot of effort into making an emu that isnt as great as the other guy’s, you put him down…
Hey poop, it’s because idiots on the internet are mostly still in grade school. Let them be. I’m gonna go get a few of them to make me a burger :D
“Um….when did this go from being called “gb”SP to “gP” SP…”
It’s always been called the gpSP since the very beginning. GamePlaySP.
For the people wih the minish cap problem, I emailed exophase and he told me to do this “After using the lantern quickly switch your weapon and repeat the process. You’ll hopefully beat the boss without it crashing.” I tried it (back in gpsp 0.6) and it works. Try it, it’s kinda a similar crash on the Kingdom Hearts. But I’d suggest that , with the new savestate options, you go on an emulator on the pc and finish the crashing parts and save it then load it back up to gpsp. Good luck to you all, and I’m going to go back the khcom.
to #23
the zelda minish works fine on mine already past that level
Name some good gba roms;D
kingdom harts FIX at the intro set the frame skip realy high like 64 or somthing it worked for me
I like how he is releasing this emulator with good updates too. All too often we see emulators being updated too quickly with only small changes or changes that are beneficial, but with no hope of speeding up things or adding other options. This emulator came to us at 80% (in my opinion) and is now progressing even further, which is unbelievable considering the other emulators on the scene like the SNES because this emulator achieves better (sometimes not stable, but better) speeds and is just so damn useful.
I love it, and words can’t describe. Can’t wait for future updates
-DarkPacMan77-
does anyone knows if riviera works?
2 words…. god like!
i love this!!!
@44 That’s 4
great update.. but it has been available for like a week or so on other sites.
sorry if this isnt alloud, but just google gba bios rar and the first link shuold be it!
just an idea, could someone upload a savestate for kingdom hearts thats past the point where it freezes?
SAVE STATES!!! YES!!!!
thnk it will work?
i have the gba bios but the emulator shows up as corrupt file on my 2.71 SE-A psp what am i doing wrong?
Can I have the GBA Bios you got please, I have had enough looking for it
Golden Sun now crashes after the intro. Can someone send their working folders to sfidare@gmail.com?
It used to work with the previous version :( :(
Well, I’ll be darned, I guess it always WAS called gpsp…what a mildly dyslexic couple of months I’ve been having…then again it would have made more sense to call it GB SP as in GameBoy.
How do I install this?
I try to use seipsptool and when I choose the pbp file in the gpsp folder my pc crashes, do i have to choose “whole folder” to install?
Awesome update! Metriod fusion works perfectly so far with frameskip on 0. And both castlevanias work great! woo freakin hoo!
There is a gpSP 0.8 HEN C version.
You can getit here: http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=38449&highlight=gpsp
but for some reason, if you press the triangle button, the ROM freezes.
i have tried loding up yugioh ultimate masters 2006 with this emulator but it just sticks at a white screen. Its a 32 meg and its still zipped cause the readme said 32 meg games had to be zipped to work but all i get is a white screen. any help would be appriciated thank u
I’m new to the emulator scene…can sum1 explain how to use this…or link me to where I can learn?….yea I know I’m a newb :P and I have read the read me xD
#57, I’m not sure what the README says, but the info posted HERE clearly shows that the 32 meg roms need to be UN-ZIPPED to work properly.
Dang it! Kingdom Hearts ends up in a BSOD crash at the first boss it Traverse Town! Must be the same problem with minish cap. Really hope you figure it out Exophase!
Workaround for Minish crash works! Thanks 38.
Btw, I noticed that when using 0.8, the saved game(s) in Zelda keeps on getting corrupted and deleted. Good thing I have backup.
Another excellent update !
Just a pity that Yoshi`s Island still doesn`t work :(
Riviera the promised land doesnt work people, or sword of mana two games i really wanted to play :( but other than that this thing kills, keep up the good work, one day it will be 100% perfect.
+ 32MB ROM support has been added. ROMS are “demand loaded” as necessary and page swapped out; there might be a small loading lag, but I have yet to ever really notice anything. NOTE: 32MB ROM support only works for unzipped ROMs.
so anyone have a savestate for kingdom hearts?
Does anyone know of riviera and sword of mana working properly? All i get is “bad jump” right at the start. Banjo kazooie does that too. and Onimusha tactics. Anyone got any good advice? No my ROMS arent zipped.
Reversed stereo is not fixed!
:(
it crushes in zelda minish cap in the third element dungeon against the boss
have you read the previous post on thw workaround on the minish cap problems chaka?
i just thought i should repost this but i have tried playing yugioh ultimate masters 2006 on the emulator, but all i get is a white screen. and its still zipped when i tried it and even unziped it to make sure but still recieved white blank screen. As you can see in post 64 32 meg games have to be ziped to be played but mines dont work but it works for visual boy on the pc
i’m having trouble making this work. i have fw 2.5 and am using the tiff eloader. I got the gta bios off the internet and renamed it to gta_bios.bin and put in the the same folder as the eboot, but gpsp still crashes when i initiate it.
When will support be added (since the gameboy advance was backwards compatible) for original gameboy & gameboy color roms?!?!
