2.71 SE Firmware Installer

greg | October 9, 2006

ChaosZero is back lending a helping hand to those who have issues grasping the installation for Dark_AleX’s 2.71 SE firmware. Packaged in the form of a Windows installer this will copy all the directories & files to the correct location on your memory stick. DATA.DXAR is included so you’re no longer required to generate one. Along side that it also includes an install for DevHook under FW 2.71. Before proceeding, please remember you must be running 1.50 prior to flashing [see this].

Two builds are available with various installation options:

Build 2 (4 options):

  1. 2.71 SE Revision A (SE-A) and DevHook for 2.71
  2. SE-A and DevHook for 2.71 with 1.50 firmware
  3. Only SE-A
  4. Only DevHook for 2.71

Build 3 (1 option — aimed towards Dialup Users):

  1. SE-A and DevHook for 2.71

Download: Build 2 | Build 3

In the event you require additional assistance — read / post in this forum thread.

Not sure if anyone else has had this problem. When I go to install it on my PSP’s memory card via the USB. It gets to 63% and freezes. I’ve installed it to my harddrive instead and it goes on there with no probs but I daren’t take the risk in copying the files from my HD to my PSP’s MS.

I’v tried a couple of memory cards just to be certain mine isn’t faulty.

It’s probably the installer, it’s always slow and stuff.. just copy the files over from your HDD.. there’s no risks involved. Don’t worry. ^_^ or else you can wait for my package. with detailed readme.

Well i didnt use this installer i used the release straight from Dark_Alex and all i can say is that Dev Hook works fine it emulates and runs ISos perfectly so you must have something slightly wrong with your devhook installation at the end, this is all i can think of…

One other thing, I downgraded my PSP in July with the Easy Downgrader from 2.6 to 1.5. I’ve been reading things about the flash0 not having sufficient space. Will it still be okay to upgrade to 2.71SE???

I have upgraded and downgraded a few times between firmwares. You should be fine because I think it formats the flash memory everytime you change the firmware

@DJ Chewmacca!: yes, you can still use the old devhook in your GAME150 folder. And, if you’re scared there’s not enough space on your FLASH0, upgrade to 2.71 and downgrade using the updateflasher. ^_^

I had to do this cause i couldnt get ANY of my emulators to see any their roms folders. Ill wait for a better revision…

its like a 1.5 talent hidden in a 2.71 firmware.

A real stepstone for custom firmware

but using it i still thinks that 1.5 is better cus i love to beta test every new downgrade or custom firmware u guys comes up with. and this 2.71se seemed unstable from my use but i believe more improved edition will come up soon.

Dark alex, millions of people from the whole world will remember u and ur name. Your creations have brought lot of happiness around. Keep it up.

Some people say it’s as easy as using the Rtrig to recover back to 1.5. But I can’t seem to locate what to choose in the recovery menu to recover back to 1.5.

Download and rename the offical 1.5 update file into UPDATE.PBP then put in the recovery folder then put in psp/game/ then go in recovery mode n do the same thing to activate the update flasher.

Can’t really see what all the fuss is about. It’s not that different to having V1.50 and running Devhook.
Using V2.71SE to run homebrew then Devhook to run ISO’s is EXACTLY the same as using V1.50 to run homebrew and Devhook to run ISO’s
Both just as easy to use as each other.

My advice would be:
Stick with the V1.50/Devhook combo, wait for the Devhook Custom Firmware!

You can simply downgrade back to 1.5 by moving the UPDATE.PBP (found in UPDATE folder under psp/game) to the RECOVERY folder (also under psp/game). reboot and hold R trigger to activate the update fresher.

I wouldnt advice the update unless you want to use the internet browser.

This is good news and the installers great too.

However i’m not going to install this yet a si’m happy with my current setup.

It sounds like Devhook can be integrated into the firmware, so I will wait a few weeks and see what happens.

If devhook gets integrated into a firmware, i will upgrade as this is a killer feature!

I have just gone back to Firmware 1.50 after about half an hour with this new custom firmware. Personally I think it needs refining before I would consider putting it back on.

Some of my applications wouldn’t work any more such as FastLoader which I use to copy UMD’s. There are a couple more of my appz it wouldn’t load either. As some one said in a previous post. I would only put it on if your are going to use the Internet Browser. Even then you can use that through DevHook emulated.

I’m sticking with FW1.5…….. For now!

For people with devhook problems (like me), here a possible solution:

Install the Devhook 0.46 Ultimate Installer V1.1.1 with the 2.71 emulation. Copy the devhook dir’s from GAME to GAME150 so you can start Devhook 0.46 from the 2.71SE-A firmware

Boot Devhook without any disk in the drive, select the iso/cso you want to load. Devhook returns into the emulated 2.71 firmware without starting the selected iso/cso….Insert a disk (in my case it is the demo-disk with the 2.0 update on it) and after that the emulated 2.71 firmware thinks the original UMD disk of the selected iso/cso is in the drive. A second UMD disk icon appears. Press X to start :-) I only tested this with one cso BTW

Hope this works for more people, Enjoy

You can use the recovery mode to reflash your psp to 1.5.

Put the RECOVERY folder from the 2.71 SE-A.rar into PSP/GAME/

Turn iff your psp.

Turn on your psp while holding the R button.

Once in recovery mode, I think you use like the second option down. It says something like run psp/game/recovery/update.pbp.

Doing so will reflash you to 1.5

Dark nothing personal man i love you you are the one who ever seems to be thinking up the same ideas that i do for the psp, but somehow ive gone from a half useless 1.5 psp to a almost entirely useless 2.71 se psp which i cant even sell to anyone cause no one knows what 2.71 se is.

anyway im past all that cause i finally got my emulators to work, so im happy, now

has anyone been able to run emulators and play cso’s w/o having to do any kind of loading or home+start type bullshit?

i was thinking something alongs the lines of using old school umd emulator .8c or whatever its name was, but im not getting very far. cause my emulators dont show up on my xmb menu anymore when im emulating any isos or cso’s

i just had an idea. (dont know if it will work tho) cudnt somebody make a dump of 2.71SE that will run in devhook.

that way people could run this firmwire without leaving 1.5 behind, if you a 2.71 devhooker like me who doesn\’t want to risk it OR a TA-082 user that can\’t then you can still run this firmwire.

its a pain to keep switching between 1.5 and 2.71 to run games and just running this through devhook will make life a lot easier.

here is a tutorial for # 68. just click on the 2.71 exe on your computer click install 2.71 se with devhook and then wait for it. it should get to 63% then just wait a few more min and it will be installed on your memory stick then go to the root of your memory stick click on psp/game/recovery then in that folder put the 1.50 firmware eboot and rename it to UPDATE.EBOOT then press o on the psp. Power all the way off then hold R when it is reebooting then recovery menu should come up then click on load recovery eboot and plug in your ac adapter and it should take about 9-10 mins to get back to 1.50!

big ups to dark alex, and psp-hacks. This program took all the confusion and scariness of dumps, files and all that other hard to get junk.
Install was easy and painless.
To all Those of you who are haveing trouble with this, please give up Trying. I don’t know how much easier dark alex can make this. I ran the install, i ran DH, i tested 2 iso’s and it all worked fine. so if it’s not working for you……youre doing something wrong, and probably just to lazy to read the readme’s.

Nice job Dark Alex, Thanx Psp-hacks for hosting this great product.

THIS IS THE BEST FW EVER!!!

Simple as this, put 1.00 and 1.50 k-exploited or not apps, emus, games, in /PSP/GAME150/ and they will work all the way, except for IRShell, as for those that want wma and flash activated, simply copy the ones found on ChaosZero Devhook package /dh/271/flash1/registry/ copy both registry files to your memory stick (anywhere as longs as you know), than use FileAssistand 0.4 and go to your flash1 (real flash) and delete these registry files, and than simply copy ChaosZero ones in there and that´s it.

Once again best FW Hack ever. Nknave

hey alex im sure you proably thought about this and the idea is way more wicked hard to do then just saying “hey maybe i should make this a dump…” but what about making it into a devhook dump so that we can just have devhook loaded 24/7 and never have to hard boot or re boot for any reason at all, that really would be most practical.

you need to downgrade to 1.50 first in a non ta-082 psp, and after you may install this.

And for those who got problems with corrupt icons and programas not running.

power off psp, power on, hold the R button, in the menu look into it to hide corrupt icons and to disable the logo if you wish, and all homebrew that is for 1.00 and 1.5 k-exploited or not, put in /PSP/GAME150/ NOT THE GAME FOLDER, to fix irShell, use the eboot fixed that was just released, of course use pspbrew to make it into a 1.0 eboot than your good to go.

Why do ppl have such problems, mb you all need to read the readme´s a little more careful.

@ 108 its not genna work buddy, wifi has never worked at 333 for me under any condition use home+select to change to 222 and try it again, you wnot see any diffrence in speed cause the wifi can only go as fast as the wifi can go not dependent on how fast the processor is moving.

@109

Wi-fi HAS worked at 333 in earlier versions of Dev.

045 with 2.60 was woking fine for me, I’m not trying to start an argument, just state a fact.

This seems to be broken on later versions.

i had probs with this install. Ive installed both A & B packs seperatley with downgrades to 150 inbetween.

Dev hook doesnt laucnh properly, there is a folder causing a corrupt icon & when dev hook launches one of the options is blacked out so it looks like the menu is in 2 parts, also when i try to launch an iso it just turns off…..any ideas?

Yo, what is up with the Wi-Fi when I load an ISO, because you know what, I can’t connect with another psp which makes a lot of no sense to me. Has this been mentioned or resolved I’m still working on it and it’s pissing me off, this sounded like a bad idea to me.

If you have 2.71 SA, and the CPU set to 333, the Wi-Fi will not work. If you set to 222, it works fine. I’m not sure 333 is required by any means, however, I do notice Untold Legends 2 is a bit choppy at 222 for me….

hm……i´m almost convinced to put the SE-Firmware onto my PSP.
But still, there´s one point:
Since this firmware isn´t emulated with Devhook, does that mean there are no hotkeys such as HOME+R to switch through the ISO´s or HOME+O to mount/unmount?

Comment by RCH

You still have the Home+Rtrigger selection. You can always try SA, and can always go back if it’s not your thing, which is nice.

Rocking!
0) Formatted the Memory stick in the PSP, then did a full shutdown and startup. Connected the USB. Made sure the AC was plugged in, battery was fully charged.
1) Downloaded the Build 3 version, ran that on the PC.
2) Waited a few minutes while the files copied over.
3) Once the installer said it was done, unconnected it.
4) Ran the upgrader.
5) Waited. Flash seemed to work faster than the USB transfer =P Slow USB on the PSP.
6) It rebooted, displayed the blue screen saying your preferences needed to be reset (which is fine – believe i saw this before upgrading from 1.50 to 2.0), did that, rebooted, and it was fine =)

Rocking update!
almost all UMD’s work just fine! ISOs work just fine. Had a Japanese 1.00 updated to 1.50 updated to 2.0, downgraded to 1.50, then updated to 2.71SE. (So all of that upgrading and downgrading hasn’t affected anything here.) Plays Japanese UMD movies just fine still (don’t have any region 1 usa movies so haven’t tried that yet — no point before 2.71SE because of region lock – so no confirmation as to region lock on movies). No problems with both USA and Japanese UMD games. CSO and ISO work fine.

Oddly, the only thing that doens’t play? The free KillZone demo UMD Sony mailed me for free — and it uses 2.71 according to the firmware update it has on the disc. Go figure – can play everything except Sony’s demo!

Web surfing works fine, no problems using wifi. =)

Keep this in mind – you need a UMD in the PSP to boot ISO/CSO using Devhook. No UMD icon will appear for your ISO/CSO until you put a UMD in and use Devhook.

When you use Devhook, select your ISO/CSO, XMB, and reboot, don’t look for some extra icon or something — just find the UMD icon again and you’ll see that it has magically transformed itself into the ISO/CSO game icon! I know this seems obvious – but many users will keep loooking and looking for something ‘new’ when it’s just the same ol’ UMD icon that has been transformed. Naturally, it’ll stay put through a suspend, but will revert to the original UMD on a full power down.

Basically, a 100% boring upgrade – even easier than a real Sony firmware update, and works great on a Jpn PSP 1.00 original =)

Yes, it’s a Jpn PSP, so the o/x buttons are still swapped =)

Im having right problems with this SE. It would appear that after the initial flash and upgrade it works fine. The upgrade happens, then it reboots automatically but if i try to run an application straight after the reboot, IE the Web Browser, i get the blue screen asking to press O to continue. Like on the 250 & 260 downdater. Then it forces itself off when i turn it back on it asks me all the questions associated with a new psp, name, time zone etc. Then all the applications associated with the Firmware work, like the web browser etc. BUT DEVHOOK. This is the one problem im having and ive tried loads of stuff. The embedded version on the install when i launch it has a split menu, the option 3rd up from the bottom of the list once its loaded is missing so it looks like the menu is split in two parts. If i load an iso onto the disc Devhook can see its there but when i try to launch it it just shuts down my psp, even if i simply press exit on devhook it shuts down my psp. Its mad, ive tried just installing the se fw, and version 44 of devhook which booted up, this time with a full menu and no black out, but just when i thought it was working BAM off goes my psp again. I see a couple of comments like this in the forums but nobody has any ideas yet. Anyone else come accross this or got a resolve for the issue? Its a right mental one this! Im lovin the FQW i really want it! but recovery mode back to 150 for now with devhook V46…..please help me out this is doing my tree in!! many thanks Tom.

The error I receive is:
error loading/starting 0×80010002 reboot.prx

Another problem came to my mind:
I´m using Harley´s Custom Firmware at the moment which already wrote to the flash when it was installed…..
Is there anyone who had this firmware and then put on 2.71 SE without problems?
