DAX Support for DevHook v0.46

greg | October 2, 2006

Update: Well — disregard Beta 3, here’s the final — v1.0 with source included!

Release 1.0.0
————-
DAX : Unchanged
CSO : Removed zlib as causing regression

A few days old, but as you probably noticed, I took a few days off. And I figure this will serve a useful purpose for many folks who have yet to hear about it. This PRX module comes from Uncle Sam and is compatible with DevHook v0.46; it’s purpose: enabling you to load .DAX compressed image files.

How to
======
Drop umdciso.prx in [MS ROOT]:\dh\kd and replace the existing umdciso.prx file

Note that it will work only with a plain original Devhook 0.46 release

Beta 3 includes a speed boost — DAX UMD emulation is much faster than the previous releases.

uhh. yeah. DAX really isn’t all that worth converting to being that it’s only a few MB smaller than CSO format…

no. 2 you don’t have to convert, see it as you can now have an option of compression.

but positive

Do I just apply the umdciso.prx file to kd?
Or do I apply that and all of the files in the source folders?

Cool ! Will dl later. Since it mentioned dis will only work with plain ori dh046, I wonder will it work by any chance on chunglam’s mod? If it’s +, den it’s worth & I can convert all my 100 cso to dax.

Well I’m still hoping dh can support 7z later…

Devhook will never support 7z. It’s too slow for that kind of thing, as the developer of .dax said.

ey.. just a n00b question..

is the devhook in chaoszero’s ultimate installer an original installation of devhook?

great mod for dh by the way!

I don’t even use dax, but good job anyway. Haven’t found a worth-while dax converter, so i’m sticking with pspvideo9.

Since .CSO is native to Devhook, and I’m not seeing that much of a space savings, I’ll stick with .CSO. BTW, post #10, what the hell are you talking about?

#2 Of course on small files, the DAX file will only save a few MBs… But on Large CSO files (500-1000MB) you can save 50MB+ converting to DAX format.

Does anyone know which filetype is faster, if any, CSO or DAX?

GTA: LCS supposedly runs smoother DAXed rather than CSOed.

Hey tim – CSO works faster than dax but there isn’t much speed lack problem. So dax is still good to go.

damn ! dh with chunglam’s mod not compatible with this prx. Well just tested with ridge race 2.dax & confirm work. Felt abit laggy at the initial loading of the game compare to cso but very smooth thru out the game. No problem at all.

Gotta daxed up some cso and try.

hey OG style, u dun need the patch file coz it’s for developer/programmer unless u r 1. just copy the umdciso.prx from the rar extract to ms0:dh/kd of the original dh046.

GTA LCS dax isn’t working for me. I tried devhook, the umd icon showed, but when I loaded it, it said error 8000000200000001 or something like that. Any advice?
