The Golden Age of 2.71 is around the corner, i have a feeling that within a few months all of us 1.5 users will be upgrading. Dark_AleX and all of the other homebrew programmers are opening the door to a new world on the PSP… VIVA LA HOMEBREW!

Nah.. i’d rather stick to 1.5 and emulate. It’s far more stable than using the HEN on 2.71. Nevertheless, i’m happy to hear this news.. (: and thanx Dark_AleX for making it possible!

Once you exploit one version, sure, you can keep coming up with new methods and fixes for said version. But it’s not the same as exploiting all versions.

2.8/2.81 is still kicking the crap out of the community. We might see some developments towards 2.8/2.81 soon, but, if you upgrade to 2.82, or 2.9 or whatever, you’re just creating a problem for yourself, not for us.

Once you’re in emulated 1.5, is there a way to get in a web browser on your PSP without turning it off and having to do HEN all over again to go back to emulated 1.5?
Would the only way be to use the Wipeout Pure web browser? Does it still even work?
Is there a way to get only the browser part of Wipeout and make it an ISO so it takes up a small amount of memory?

You don’t have to emulate 1.5 on your 2.71 unless you want to run 1.50 homebrews which are not currently fully supported in 2.71 yet. You can just use direct and easy emulation for ISO/CSO by running the patch, then the devhook port for 2.71, and run 2.71 in flash to emulate the ISO/CSO.. Hmm, I don’t think you can absorb what I’m trying to say anyway.. But I’ve already made a compiled pack of necessary files that includes HEN_C, devhook port for 2.71, and 1.50 dump and a pretty detailed and noob-friendly readme. I’ve sent in the package to greg and it will appear on PSP-Hacks shortly, make sure to keep a lookout for it. It’ll help you in lotsa ways. ^^

Where can I get a dump of 2.71 so I can load ISOs that require higher firmwares? I tried dumping my 2.71, but it didn’t work.

do what i did brick ur psp so that it deletes all of the psp OS on ur psp then use a 1.00 DUMP but prepare the auto executable on ur memory chip b4 you brick ur psp ;) it worked for me and now i went from 1.00 to 1.50 and im loving the homebrew ;) i might release a guide on how to do this later on my psp was 2.81 i bricked it on purpose i dumped 1.00 and then upgraded to 1.50 & guess what ALL FIRMWARES ARE DOWNGRADABLE THROUGH THE METHOD I FOUND OUT MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA ill release a guide on how-to on my website later on and maybe the owner of psp-hacks will post it ;)

wow, simply amazing, I think the best to do, is that if all static elfs, user mode and kernel mode are supported, Dark_Alex should make a permanent patch, than 2.71 would be just like a 1.5 but no need for DevHook firmware emulation, but still for the iso/cso emulation. This would be the best thing ever, and will defenetly help out TA-082 Users. I got a TA-079 mobo with downgraded 2.00 to 1.5, but I would defenetly upgrade to 2.71 and patch it permanatly if this would ever happen.

Ok, I’m sure this is old news to most of you, but I was finally able to run a backuped iso (technically it’s a CSO). I have 2.71 fw. I followed several different directions and came up with my own. Here’s how I did it:

1. Without a UMC CD in the drive, I booted up. I ran the RAND Tiff from the HENC.

2. I ran the Devhook 2.71, chose the firmware 1.5, the ISO I wanted to play, chose to play with any UMD in the drive. I selected Start and it rebooted.

3. I ran the Devhook 2.6 and chose the firmware 1.5, the ISo I wanted to play, chose to play with any UMD in the drive, selected Reboot and chose to reboot to the UMD.

It rebooted and I was successful for the first time. I have the Crap Motherboard that wasn’t able to downgrade. This is a great day.

Your all dumb fucks this is his brother he wiped his psp and was sad 1 day we played around with some 1.00 dump and set it up on a friends psp cause we were downgrading it from 2.71 to 1.50 SO we got some files on the psp kept trying over and over and it dumped all the 1.0 files on his psp and it said to turn it off we did turned it back on and it was version 1.0 i updated it to 1.50 and DLED IrShell lmao :) but ya if u brick ur psp i would not reccomend doing it the way that we did but it did work but im not all sure about what a “bricked” psp really is anyways a bricked psp = all files deleted & nothing shows up but a black screen if so then i have figured an easy way to downgrade i will make a guide on my website soon and maybe try to get a video of it being downgraded on my webcam.

@andyels: erm.. you don’t have to do that.. you can just run 2.71 and select 2.71(flash) then it will reboot your PSP and now you’re running ur CSO. That’s why I said, you don’t have to (emulate) go back down to 1.5 and use the devhook in 1.5, the one ported over works fine.. My pack will be released on PSP-Hacks soon with a detailed readme, so yeah, just wait for it.

How do I load CSOs that need 2.6 or higher firmware from my 2.71 TA-082? My 2.60 dump wouldn’t load with devhook…. :(

@me: You need HEN_B2 (or HEN_C since its released already), devhook launcher port for 2.71(with flash support), and install it, then run the patch and run the devhook for 2.71, then select 2.71(flash) for firmware. Also, for that, you don’t need any dump, it will load the 2.71 from your PSP flash, and emulates the CSO/ISO you’ve selected.

I’m still looking forward to the day that I can perm-install whatever firmware I want and then just change back instantly through the xmb – game area, back and forth through the firmwares as I wish – homebrew enabled on all. That is my dream… and it is looking closer and closer to completion with this guys work.

is the new HENC as difficult to run as HENB? what i mean is the startup that fails to load a lot of times, and u have to keep trying.

i have a ta082 mobo and i’ve got all the necessary files to do it, but am worried cos it seems unstable. maybe dark_alex will come up with a more stable version in the future :D

Nah, it’s very stable, it only hangs around 2-3 times at most. To patch this over, just delete the HENB folder from your PSP/PHOTO folder, then place the DH folder from Devhook to ur mem root, then the henc folder to photo folder, that’s it, all done. Oh, don’t forget the new patch files at the root of the mem stick too. patch, bin.. all those, yep. The steps are still the same, so it’s not a matter of difficult or not. It won’t fail that much, at least for me. This is due to the unstabability of the tiff file.. yeah DAX will try. xD

Does any wanna know how to run HenB or C that is stable?? if so ill be on aim for a lil bit…my sn is HumNoiKing9

erm.. you can just post the solution here.. instead of having people to add you on AIM, most of the time it’s stable, for me, at most once, or twice.. depends on luck.

i wouldnt mind updating to 2.71 if there are plans for soft downdater for 2.6 (im on 2.6 now). but it’s only for original 2.5 and i dont think my 2.6 applies. so i’m worried if HENC aint stable and causes probs for me, i’d have to wait longer for a downgrader cos i would be on 2.71 by then.

i have a question: can anyone tell me how exactly do u run the HENC? first u startup HENC, then devhook; is that it? do u have to run HENC and devhook again after u turn off ur psp or just the devhook? cos from what i see it is HENC that is unstable.

0okm already made the statement that his downgrader for TA-ers is compaitible with fw2.71 when its released, so everyone can update to 2.71. HEN_C is stable, it worked for me..

First you set up everything including the ported devhook for 2.71, then u run HEN_C thr the photo XMB, then it will show a green screen if its successful the first time, then after that it will reboot. the patch will be there until u do a hard reset, then after that u’ll need to go to the hen_c again when u want to run devhook and homebrews. then, this time it wont show a green screen cuz no flashing is required, it will only show a blue screen and reboot, then after that u can run devhook for 2.71 for ur CSO and ISO. I’ve made a package that is ultra noob-friendly and sent it in to greg, just wait for him to post it up. I’ve made a detailed readme too. ^^

just one more question: how do you hard reset ur psp? hard reset means holding the power button up for more than 3 secs?

and. if i have a 1006k psp, do i update using the jap or US version of 2.71? dont ask me to go to the HK psp website, cos i can’t read chinese.

nope, originally it was, but i think now it’s going good with all ta-082 2.71. anyway you know, not all boards are ta-082 when you see the ic1003.. they can be ta-083 ta-084.. because I work in a shop myself and I’ve disassembled several sets and saw the motherboard.

hard reset : turning ur PSP totally off and turn it back on, yeah like what u said. if u run into problems like a hang or a homebrew crash, u may have to hold up to 20secs to hard reset. don’t resort to pulling out the batt before u try a hard reset.

it’s okay to use the jap version of 2.71. ^^
My own PSP is a 1006K too, fw1.5, I bought it in Singapore last May, yeah.. but currently my buttons are spoilt, and im not a hardware savvy, so i got my boss to help me take a look at it, but he’s a busy man, so i left it at the shop (and since i have exams now, i cant go down that often), and took a TA-082 2.60 set home to play with. Got permission to upgrade it to 2.71, so yeah, I made a noob-friendly 2.71 pack for others, sent it in to greg and hopes he post it up soon, cause I don’t want to give my ddl link out or else my webserver would run out of bandwidth. =D

I have three PSPs right now. One, my PSP-1006K, second, my PSP-1000, bought it second hand, a pure jap set with 1.50 firmware. Third, the TA-082 fw2.71 that I’m playing with now. My own PSP has the PSP2TV adapter installed, and my PSP-1000 is going to be sold soon, to earn some money, and I’m going to play with the fw2.71 until I get my 1.5 back, heh. ^^

i was afraid of downgrading but while i was play the usual homebrew my psp restarted and said ur psp files hav corrupted and press ‘O’ to repair so i did that and i had to set all the time date nickname and stuff again!!
then i realized that it had downgraded my psp!!!

That’s what I did, and when I try to load 2.71 Flash in DevHook, my PSP’s screen turns black, then 10 seconds later, it turns itself off.

No, this doesn’t work on 2.6. Just upgrade to 2.71.. It doesn’t kill. No use sticking with 2.6 and wait for “undefined” amount of time for the downgrader.. once all homebrews are enabled for 2.71, it will truely outshine 1.5.

gosh.. stop asking stupid questions. the downgrader for 2.8 will take a while, it may be just later today, tomorrow, or months after.. i really don’t want to flame you.. an eloader, don’t think so. it can run simple, real simple, homebrews for now using the tiff exploit, but anyone who upgraded to 2.8 are retards, so they deserve it.

@Azeem: hmm ISO loader for 2.6.. not sure, its possible, but since the whole scene is concentrated on 2.71, it wouldn’t hurt to upgrade..

@Zephyrus: The DevHook pack works just fine, except when I’m in emulated 1.50 the X and O buttons are switched…
How do I fix this?

Because the registry file in the 1.5 dump was from mine, and mine uses the O button.. Just replace the dh/flash1/registry (the files inside) with your own one.. Anyway, if you want to emulate CSO/ISO, just read my readme, have fun..

as long as I turn my psp on with no disc in the drive (or the the drive at least left open) this 1 has worked everytime :) great work Dark_AleX :)

@Zephyrus: I just want to double-check something. If I replace the DevHook that the pack comes with with a different DevHook (say, the one that lets you run stuff over USB), will I still be able to run fw2.71 from the PSP’s onboard memory or do I have to run it from a dump?

I’m still waiting and hoping for a 2.8 iso loader or something in that direction. I was one of the first people in Europe who had a PSP (I ordered it from a Japanese website as soon as the PSP launched in Japan!), but I was always to damn curious, and so I downloaded new firmwares as they were released. I love Sony, and everything they do (well, not everything actually), but I’m so pissed that PSP games are so damn expensive for gameplay up to 13 hours!! That’s why I wanna try iso’s, and the buy official games, because I don’t trust most reviews..
Please bring out a 2.80 ISO laucher.

@A Nonny Mouse: try not to replace the devhook there.. i was going to replace it, but then since this is Dark_AleX’s original inluded DevHook, I decided not to.. you may experience problems, or not, i’m not sure.

@Dark_AleX lover: just go get my pack and run it.. the flash is totally safe.. it just runs the 2.71 files from your PSP flash memory, so you don’t have to get the dumped 2.71 files..

@Azeem: the XMB (stands for PSP interface) photo viewer isn’t a homebrew.. i just meant to direct you by going to the photo section of your PSP and select the HENC folder to run the tiff exploit. I’ve tested my own package on my own PSP, it doesn’t wreck your PSP.. and you can shrink your ISO by compressing them into CSO by using Maverick_PSP’s PSP ISO Shrink 2.32. And, yes, you can put in more than 1 ISO game in your PSP if your memstick is big enough. Also, to switch between your games in the 2.71 (after u run devhook), just press HOME+R trig. ^^

@JohnnyC: 2.71 doesn’t support homebrew that much and it’s currently limited to user-mode homebrews and only some work.. i’d stay on 1.5 if I were you.. you get all homebrews working on 1.5. although the only advantage 2.71 gives you is that you get to run ISO/CSO at full speed, even faster than 1.5 (just abit).

yeah just updated to 2.71 and tried it didnt like it all that much so just downgraded back to 1.5 again using the 2.71 downgrader first time i had tried the 2.71 downgrader (piece of piss) this is great work by dark alex but the only reason i see for it is for ta-082 users until ookms downgrader comes out apart form that keep working on 1.5 homebrew

all homebrews are in 1.50 formatt and work flawlessly

also if you psp is 2.71 you can recieve game sharing info

this means that your friend with his 1.50 with devhook and his tekken iso on a memory can send you a smaller copy of the game so you can play against each other

all you need is one iso and a 2.71 to send it to

@Dark_AleX: you ask too much.. too much useless and stupid questions. this is going to be the last time i answer your questions.. go find ISO/CSO yourself, don’t ask. no one is going to tell you where to find them. and theres no list.. if you want to play the latest games in ISO/CSO with full feature, just get a 2gig and download full rips. and if you still don’t know, every single mem stick don’t give you the space it says.. because of the hidden files in it, it will always cut of some space, like my 1gig, it only gives me around 930megs.. and a game doesn’t lose any data while you compress it, but there is a case where some games, when compressed, will run very slowly or won’t even work, like GTA. now.. stop asking questions, go find out for yourself. shoo. (:

@Zephyrus: You said to replace the files in dh/150/flash1/registry with my own so I did that, but the X and O buttons are still switched in emulated 1.50.
Are you sure the files are in dh/150/flash1/registry ?

And if I changed the pictures in dh/150/flash0/vsh/resource with my own pictures, would I get a custom background in emulated 1.50?
Would the dimensions of the images have to be the same as the dumped ones?
Would they have to be .bmp?

And is there a way to have a web browser in emulated 1.50 by changing the firmware dump so I wouldn’t have to hard reset my PSP to go back to 2.71 when I want to browse the web?

are you sure you used your own registry file that has the X button working? i dont know if you used a correct registry or not.. and yeah if you change the background with your own pics, yep, but there’s a resolution limit, if its too high resoluted, some of the icons wont display properly. they have to be bmp. and about the web browser.. just stick with ur 2.71 browser.. there’s a way, but its tricky and i haven’t tried it.. its just to get the custom firmware files on it, but i dont think any custom firmware has a browser.. so yeah..

just have things stay that way.. i’m not responsible if stuff stop working just because you messed with them. i won’t even bother to help much. the reason i made this pack is actually to just help out people who are confused and also, on the other hand, stop them from bombarding me with questions.

@Zephyrus: I actually did try replacing it. **Nothing** worked after that, not fw 1.5, not fw 2.71. It might be that I’m doing it wrong or something – I don’t know – but it doesn’t look promising. Thanks for answering, though.

@me: you don’t have to.. because to play ISO you don’t need to run 1.50 then run 2.71.. u just need to run 2.71(flash) from the 2.71 devhook.. gosh. but if you insist.. you can place the files in the folder dh/271/ …. do whatever you want.

Just install my pack, place your ISO/CSO in the ISO folder, run “DEVHOOK 0.4X for 2.71″ then in the menu, go to UMD SELECT and choose your CSO/ISO there, after choosing it will return to menu, then go up and start.. make sure there’s a UMD in your UMD drive, then you’ll be able to play your ISO/CSO. Man.. you’re a fucking noob. I’m now flaming any shit out there. I hate noobs like you who don’t read and keep asking.

hey zephyrus is there any way to compress a cso file, cos i downloaded pro evo 5 and the size was round 1 gig i compressed to cso level 9 en it was round 516mb how can i compress or edit things like take out the stadiums i wont use, en boots ect to squeeze it onto a 512mb card?????

@Azeem: UMDGen lets you delete parts of ISO files.

Yes, unless you delete something that you need to have the game work.
You could delete multiplayer if you want to, and keep single player.

And you change the altered ISO into CSO to save more space.

i have loaded the ms root files in my psp’s mp root and when i go to see the “static” pic, my psp freezes. Ive now done this about 12 times. Is this normal, or am i doing something wrong. I have read every comment and question in this forum and still dont have the answer im looking for. will someone please help.

i was reading this over at http://pspupdates.qj.net/ (for HEN B and I assume the same thing for HEN C)and they said that Dark_Alex has edited the msreboot.bin. They also said that this was the reason why Booster’s site was shutdown because Booster edited the msreboot .bin without Sony’s consent. Do u think the same thing will happen to Dark_Alex like what happened with Booster?

Does anyone tell me how to make wifi working? I found that that WiFi is not working properly after running dh.

Now every1 know this Hen Revision C emulate 2.71 to 1.5. But dis 1.5 is an emulation not a real 1.5 flash0. Eventhough it gives u the ability to run all kind of homebrews, I’m still doubtful and if I were you I won’t try running any homebrew that writes to the flash0 (like X-flash, PSPset, PSpersonalise). All these homebrews are meant for real 1.5 and could potentially brick yr psp.

I hv not try it yet coz I dun need to. Mine the real 1.5.

hey mikeike, you just open up the root folder that you download and place files in the proper location. ex. … anything that is in the photo file of the download goes into the photo file of your memory stick. but im not sure i did it right because when i go to devhook on my psp, i get an error message. i did get the blue screen and the green screen.

LOL wow honestly where do you people get your info sometimes is really fooking beyond me…FIRST OFF to #19 2.8 and 2.81 have already been busted into and cracked, it hasnt been released yet cause the person or people doing it are busy with other projects, and beside the fact that there is no need to rush the release of the cracked FW since there is no immeadiate need for it. 2.8/2.81 offer no useful features or yet have there been any games released that actually require it. the most recent game i can think of right now is mob wars, and even that is still on 2.71, i might be wrong on this but have psp’s even started shipping out with 2.71 stock yet or are they still 2.6? the new devhook is already well into development and when released everyone and their mothers im sure already have a decoded dump of 2.81 thanks to a certain someone’s psardumper on standby just waiting to be copied to the ms… so enough being side tracked by things i read on here, to my question DA you stated testing snes TYL .3 and it worked for you? i know it is a “user mode” emu and i understand all that but how are any of the newer tyl’s that also claim to be “user mode” not capable of running? according to what i read in the DL section on here there are 2 versions of the new released .4.2 (me and non me) is there diffrent ways of prgramming something to be user mode that would make the new .4.2 not work? cause the little ah… exe thing that was included in the dl, classes the so-called “user mode” version of .4.2 as a kernal mode application when it is cleary titled as a standrad user mode emu for i believe the exact comment was ” Standard version for 2.0+ users. ”
What im trying to ask is is this version sensitive to certain types of “user mode” homebrews and not others? or is making a homebrew “user mode” or “kernal mode” pretty universal when it comes to the programming?

Ok, after alot of researching I decided to go ahead and install henc with zephyus’ pack. I go to HENC in my photos folder and it restarts fine and I go to devhook for 2.71 and everything works good. Without making any changes I exit devhook then after that I can no longer execute the app without getting 80020148 (game could not be started). The only way I can get devhook to work again is by formatting my memory stick and pasting all the files back on my psp. Does anyone have any suggestion?

@herc1971: I’m assuming that you made a hardware reset or something, right? The next time this happens, just hard reset your PSP and run the patch again. If you ever restart your PSP, make sure you run the patch again before you run DevHook. ^^

@young: why not downgrade then? since you’re not a ta-082. if it’s a firmware 2.71, just downgrade it with my downgrader pack. this program would be good if you don’t want to downgrade, though it has some restrictions and currently 1.5 is better since it’s fully exploited.

Now that I have tickered around a bit I have found that after using devhook or the snes emulator and I press the home button about 50% of the time it will freeze and the power switch will not work. I have to pull the battery out to reset my psp. My question is if this is a normal characteristic with using henc. Thanks again!

some iso’s work like need for speed and ridge racer but when i put winning eleven 9 into the iso folder it dnt work e.g. go to devhook en select it, then i select the we9 iso than i select start, it goes back to the home screen and the umd loads en then music + a picture of winning eleven comes up, i selct it then after a bit it say’s “error game could not be started” en some number with 800…
please help ( do i need to modify the iso? or do japenese games not work)

@herc1979: i’m not sure, but the next time it hangs/stuck, don’t pull out the battery just yet. just pushed the power button up and hold it for 10-20secs, it will definitely turn itself off. taking off the batt is a really bad idea. (:

@Azeem: the 2.71 loader still doesn’t support too much games yet, i assume. one thing, infrastructure doesn’t work, second, some games don’t work. yeah.. like i said, it has its limitations that’s why i recommend to people who can downgrade to downgrade since 1.5 has no restrictions. ^^

@ToMeR: can you just shut up? no one is going to recommend you any good games, just go do some researching yourself and find a game that you like instead of asking and asking.. gosh..

you know i honestly think @Techno mite be on to somthing. who can really say if hes telling the truth, maybe he did make it up, but i must admit, there is a ring of truth to his story, and in theory, it mite actually work. it sounds very similar to formating a hard drive and re-installing an OS from special cds that boot and install through the BIOS.

but thats beside the point. why dont we think of it this way, if he can prove his method sucessful then all of the people with “un-downgradable” firmware will finally have a way out. and even if he is BS’n he sure has given all the 2.80/2.81 people somthing to ponder so they can pass the time :)

Yeah probably, but it’s hard to believe and I don’t think anyone is willing to test out his method.. it’s just too.. unbelievable and no one is willing to risk it for something that is so uncertain. People may just end up bricking their 2.8/2.81 instead..
