OT: Wicked Lasers Review & Contest

You may or may not have noticed the ad in the left column for wickedlasers.com. The ad produced quite a large amount of click throughs and we recognized the connection right away. Video game lovers, love lasers too! We contacted Wicked Lasers about getting our hands on some of these to see just how powerful they are. Wicked Lasers was more then happy to provide us with a laser to review and offered us 3 more to give away to our fans on the site.
We received the Extreme 95mW. The unit is about 2-3cm longer then a ball point pen and about double the diameter, so it fits in a pocket nicely. It runs on 2xAAA batteries and the site claims that they will last two hours. The 2 hours of battery life is pretty much bang on, but the laser will start dimming after an hour.
Here is what they have to say about it on the site:

Here is what the lasers claim to be able to do:
- Beam visible with smoke or fog in lighted areas
- Beam visible at night
- Beam visible without smoke or fog in lighted areas
- Make holes in black trash bags
- Open-cut healing power
- Cut black electrical tape
- Ignite wooden or paper matches
- Pop dark colored balloons
- Melt Plastic
Let’s see how it did against these claims; The beam is definitely visible during the day indoors but the green dot it paints can be seen quite brightly out in the sun. Night time is when these toys really show their awesome power, the beam is clearly visible and goes further then your eye can even see. Greg and I tested it quite extensively from his balcony in Toronto (shooting it in front of people on Yonge street) which scared quite a few people. When we aimed it to the sky the beam was visible from a few blocks away (I walked down the street to see while Greg shot it). My favorite part of shooting it up in to the sky at night is listening for other people near by wondering out loud WTF is that in the sky? Igniting matches and melting plastic worked but you really have to hold the laser steady. It’s a lot like using a magnifying glass to rid the local ant population. Popping a balloon was much harder then we thought, even the slightest indoor air flow will move the balloon.
This laser gets two thumbs way up! It is now one of my favorite toys to play with. If you have extra money to spend on foolish fun then this is a wise investment. If you don’t have extra money to spend then we have good news for you. wickedlasers also sent us 3 more to give away.

Ok for those that are wondering what the laser and psp-hacks have in common besides the company giving them money for promoting it I have found a hack for everyone! All you need is some duck tape, some wires, some soder and sodering iron. Basically take the front face plate off your psp and soder two wires (neg and positive) into the power leads on your psp. Now with the two wires hanging out put you face plate back on. Take apart your new exspensive toy. fint the power leads on them (shouldnt be that hard) and soder. (make sure youve got the - + right. Now duct tape the laser to your psp and WaMmO! You can Burn you oponents retna while playing multiplayer games on your psp!

I didn’t notice the ad because I use HostsMan. I update my hostsfile every few days and the web is largely ad free for me. In addition Opera has a good feature where you can block any image file you like - no more of those shitty multicoloured ‘avatars’ or ’signatures’ or whatever you call them in the forums. Just right click and they are gone forever. They are wank aren’t they…usually master chief plus or minus some anime bitch with green hair and big tits. Total waste of time.
