PSP to PS2 USB Tip
greg | September 20, 2006
I’m not entirely certain if this has ever been mentioned elsewhere, if it has and/or everyone already knows about it, feel free to flame me. Personally I cannot confirm whether or not this in fact works due to lack of the Pro Action Replay MAX; however, apparently with both the PS2 and Pro Action Replay MAX you’re able to utilize the PSP’s memory stick to store PS2 saves and Pro Action Replay updates.
Here’s the email from sAintJimmy:
I discovered something that isn’t really “Ground-breaking hack” but i thought it was worth mentioning. For people that own PS2 and Pro Action Replay MAX that included the 16MB pen drive; I have discovered that if you connect the PS2 to the PSP using the USB cable that you can actually use the PSP memory card for storage of PS2 game saves or Pro Action Replay updates. I just thought this was worth mentioning..
I figure it’s worth mentioning too.

SHUT UP WHO CARES!!!!
Ummm…this is cool I guess.
strike another for psp, tho i dont plan on using this often.
And everyone who posts “first” is truly a moron. – I bet he owns a DS.
LOOK I GOT THIRD I AM SOOO COOL MAN
who cares what spot you got
This is a nice trick.
i have max media center, i used it to transfer an exploit for the ps2, which enbles me to play a ps2 media player, emulators homebrew and of course import games.
@ 3rd
lol, agreed
remember the good ol days, when someone said “first post” and it wasn’t followed by flames that are usually repetitive and contribute to a large percentage of the topic’s comments?
you guys are worse than him. ffffuck off.
yes, we are worse than someone that is using the name “FUKER” and just writes “first” using capitals, just another spammer.
old news but still worth mentioning to people who didn’t know bout it
@7 your a hypocrite
Hey, this is my first time to get something posted on this website and very shocked to see it made it front page!! I’m So proud
well, isnt it kinda the same as storing your savefiles from xbox into the psp? :P
just wondering…
This also works with the psp’s max media transfer pkg which come’s with a pc disc, PS2 disc and a usb cable.
I’m going to go ahead & assume it’ll work on any PnP USB storage device… any1 know otherwise?
If this is the case then it’s TOTALLY possible to hijack the PS2 Operating System, and hack the PS2 hardware through this little discovery…
and I KNOW how it would be done… same way the memory card hack would be
#16 i think you would be better off posting that in the fourms thn here .. jsut an idea…
beyond that i think this is trick for the ps2 can be the start of somehitng more if coders look into it – i.e. i agree with #15
and yea #1 your just an ass
just said you can use this to to make the independence exploit work, for to boot ps2 backup games.
#17
ha.. you guys have no idea about the ps2 do you?
Linux is already on the ps2 and that mean its almost as good as a pc.
Dont just trust me google it “Linux on PS2″
code breaker (i have 8 or 9) can use the psp for this same thing too… i’ve already copied a couple saves to ps2 with codebreaker and psp with downloaded saves
Hey guys, What’s a good practical use for this?
@#1, Congrats — You did it.
@#19, I don’t think linux running at 300mhz with 32(?) MB of ram is anywhere near as good as average pc running at 2.33ghz with 512 MB of ram. Also I think everyone here knows about PS2 Linux.
@#EveryoneElse, just curious as to why #1 became the subject for these comments rather than the cool ps2-psp trick?
this is a really useful trick if your max drive is broken like mine. you can also play media files off your mem stick through this method.
O Rly.>>>// I got 23.. cant touch this..
anyways nice find.. iwish u didnt have to have action max to use this.. i wish i could move ps2 saves from pc to psp to ps2..
I knew this so long ago. Your certainly right it isn’t ground breaking. When I done this I wasn’t even thinking that it wouldn’t work, because you can use any USB memory device that has a simple enough structure that doesn’t need drivers not supported be ARMax
damn i was hoping for 2.8 devhook soon ppl soon i can feel it in the air lol but 2.8 aint much better than 2.71 except only certain demos work on 2.8 but why get demos when u can download iso lol demos are ok i suppose but still i want 2.8 devhook
Actually. This will work with ANY ps2 woftware allowing you to access usb. I’ve used it with the max media manager (a program disk originally for ps1 i got from a friend) and the new action replay max. I’m sure it would also work with gameshark software of the same type.
i know what would be good if an action replay when connected 2 psp u can emulate psp on the tv screen and browse the net using ps2 controller im thinking 2 far ahead i know lol but would be cool
As doodr says this is right, Action replay’s media manager will access that and also PS2’s memory. No news breaking at all. but yes. can be done.
When I first got the PSP, I attempted to use it in USB mode with the Action Replay Max and found that the ARMAX would NOT recognize the PSP’s memory stick as a PEN DRIVE. Perhaps this update was implimented in the CURRENT version of the ARMAX software, but in the version I have, it does NOT WORK.
Then again, I tried to use it to play VIDEO FILES from the Action Replay Maxx AVI/MP3 player screen…I guess you MIGHT be able to transfer memory card saves that way…but, if you have an ARMAX, it comes with the pen drive which can hold umpteen PS2 memory card saves and ARMAX code list updates…so what would the point be in that.
This old news….and yes it works cuz I have done it myself and it works. And it doesn’t need to be the one with a Pen Drive included
I don’t know if it was mentioned but it also works with a Codebreaker too. I store all my saves on my psp.
L@@K I got 32 i’m so coooooooooooool….fu.cking retards anyways good hack
Pencil, you just did the same exact thing they did, you idiot. And is it just me or has the homebrew scene been a little.. short.. lately?
^^^ #33 soooooo true dude ive been waiting for tiff games on my 2.8 b4 they came like wild fire now nutting
this stinks!
I discovered this trick the other day, with the psp 2 psp. But i tried using just the memory stick (with the pro adapter of course) in a usb card reader (mine is a usb “stick” which you put the card in and close) and it worked. So it’s the memory stick itself that does the job, not mainly the psp, but I think most of you assumed this. I decided to try this because I found out that most usb sticks or PnP USB devices WILL NOT work with AR MAX. I basically am gonna use this to install the independence exploit for ppl :P
um, correct me if i’m wrong here but, if i just read this correct, did someone say u can use the PSP USB thingie to copy Memory card exploits to play PS2 back-ups? If so, can someone link me to it?
As stated before, old news. The PSP just happens to be one of the mass storage devices that falls under the type the PS2 actually does support (many USB storage devices don’t work because they’re under the other standard; I’d call them by name, but I can’t remember the names right now– one’s treated like a floppy with a single whole-disk partition, and the other is treated like a HD with multiple partitions) so ANY PS2 software with USB storage support will accept the PSP.
This has been known and used for at least a year now. Hell, LaunchELF on PS2 has supported it for at least 30 revisions.
Well, thanks to reading these forums on my own comment, i now have Final Fantasy X booted from DVD-R, thanks for the mention of the Memory Card Exploit….i never thought doing a good deed for this site would pay off so well :)
Sanity, if people are reading this now, do you really think they give a shit how old the news is?
obviously not Jin, with 40 comments on it. I just got a PSP in late Feburary/Early March and just got another PS2 (sold my other one a few years back) in June so i’m still pretty new in the PS2 and PSP mods
sAintJimmy, by what means can i contact you? do you have msn? There’s a utility you can use to add exploit files into a AR/CodeBreaker save file and then put it on the psp/memory stick and onto the ps2 memory card with the AR/CodeBreaker Media manager. drop me a line, or post your username or something, for msn or your email :)
Can it be done without purchasing action replay max?
I use swapmagic disks and i can run .ELF’S on my pstwo just by making a folder on my psp and then connecting my psp to my pstwo (slim)
Swapping is kind of a hassle though, as you need a jam a tool in the drive. Anyway, to answer dan’s question, yes and no. You can’t use USB sticks of any sort with just the ps2’s console browser. You need to have a cheat device capable of copying savegame data off a USB stick. There are other ways, but they involve either buying a product, or going to a friend who has a modchip and can run an exploit installation program off a cd-r. I used to use the commercial version of HDAdvance to create a cd image of EXECFTPs, then run it from the hard drive and dump the exploit files onto my memory card via ftp from my computer. The stick will be your best bet though, and Action Replay MAX’s aren’t really that expensive now ($25 here in canada at future shop/best buy)
Oh yeah, by USB stick I, of course, also mean attaching the psp via usb cable, since that’s essentially the same thing :P
Kick ass…. 47th!!! (see this was meant to be a joke but being both a Hitman and Alias fan it’s actually kinda backfired.)
SephiRon, i’m sorry i don’t wanna post a screen name in here or an email address due to spammers (not saying anyone on PSP-Hacks would spam me, but people that think it’s sooo cool to be 1st post makes me think it’d be something they’d do) but I will give ya my alternate e-mail address and then give you my primary address from there. You can email me at dvdxploitr@gmail.com
i new about this but i diddent no wat to do with it because my psp does sau usb mode when connected to my ps2. can anyone help me of wat to do with it? please?
hey u r genious.i knew that since i have psp.and i transfer games ps2 to psp from dvd with launcelf.
LMFAO ive BEEN DOING THAT FOR a YEAR NOW
