What this means, considering my theory, is that it should be similar to what the physical modchip does hopefully.

custom firmware like Dark Alex´s proof of concept or that dual boot one, so it could be that this will load up directly to devhook without the need to run configurator no more and such, but not sure how the features will work, like changig from iso, cso, umd, and the .pbp settings., maybe you´ll have to flash it, and it will load up, mb it will all be from MS, who knows???

Are you stupid? What the article meant was that Devhook will EMULATE 2.8, this still needs to be run on a 1.5 or 1.0 firmware PSP!
And as far as ‘Custom Firmware Devhook’ that means it will replace the PSP firmware all together, so you would no longer have a 1.5 or 2.0 or what ever, you would have a DEVHOOK PSP, capable of emulateing ANY of the current firmwares and it will boot straight into DEVHOOK instead of XMB.

I think the day ‘Custom Firmware Devhook’ is released will be a huge leap for everyone in the PSP world

It is about 99.999999% likely that you will have to dump 2.8(1) fw yourself yes. Think about it first of all, it was said that 2.8(1) uses a signature check thats based on the PSP it’s installed on. Not to mention that there’s no way that Booster is going to risk distributing copyrighted material again.
Which means if this news is true, it would explain the whole custom firmware idea. No need to distribute the 1.5 (not that we don’t all already have it), and since he couldn’t distribute a generic 2.8(1) and have it work for everyone anyways, that means he’s not doing anything that would get him in trouble. All good for him, all good for us (until the hundreds of people come asking how to use the psar dumper)

It’s supposed to be a custom firmware, which means the installer needs to run in kernel mode, which can’t be done in 2.8(yet)

It’s possible that it may work properly on 2.81, but just remember that if you upgrade to 2.81 it’s not likely that you’ll ever be able to play homebrew, or downgrade.

If it ends up being a 2.8 version then I seriously doubt it, if it ends up being a 2.81, then that would be more likely, but not for sure, you’d have to find someone who actually has a 2.81 and a Sandisk Ultra II 4.0 GB pro duo stick to answer that question, and I really doubt you’ll find one around here.

it was just about the reboot.bin file indevhook .43 and distributing the decrypted files of the updates is illagal so there will be no “ultimant installer” with 2.8/2.81 in it youll have to get the decrypter and updates ur self

#70, my brother has that mem stick and i’ve used it quite a few times without any problems on my 1.5 and 2.71 emulated devhook
