iR Shell v2.2 FINAL Released

greg | September 12, 2006

It’s a sad gloomy day; - AhMan, responsible for the most fascinating & fully featured piece of homebrew to ever hit your 1.50 PSP, is now bidding farewell to iR Shell with one final version released mere hours ago. iR Shell will certainly not be forgotten as it continues to be used on PSPs world-wide.

iR Shell v2.2 Screenshot

iR Shell v2.2 changes:

  1. The Homebrew directory can be customized under iR Configurator. You can change it from original /PSP/GAME to anything you like. Pls note if you relocate the homebrew directory, XMB won’t be able to launch them.
  2. You can now organize your homebrews into various sub-folders, such as:
    • Emulators
    • Games
    • General Utilities
    • WiFi Applications

This will help to organize your homebrews and make it easier to locate a specific one easier. It also helps to speed up the APP view. The sub-folder must be in the syntax of “$name$”. The 2 dollar signs are used to signify this is a folder which contains various homebrews.

  3. The File Manipulation has been updated for the APP view, so that you can create, rename, delete directories as usual. Pls note when you create directory under APP view, you don’t need to put dollar signs and the system will add them automatically.
  4. A new PMP Mod AVC 1.02M plugin by Magelo is included. In order to avoid conflicts with the original PMP Mod 2.02. This new AVC plugin will use extension name “AVC” which means you’ll have to rename your pmp avc files to name.avc. The original PMP movie files will still be name.pmp.
  5. A new beautiful skin “Vista Clarity” by PSPHax0r9.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fix a bug which cause the inability to launch a 1.5 UMD game from iR Shell.
  • There was a bug in the previous public release which caused “hide splash screen” under iR Configurator not working. It’s now fixed.
  • A log file “debug.txt” in the root directory has been accidentally left in the previous public release. You can manually remove it.

You read it right, this is the final release of iR Shell. As in nature, everything has a begin & an end, iR Shell is no exception. I’ve been working on this project since January this year and it’s now the time for me to move on and say goodbye to you all. I won’t be doing any other PSP homebrew projects and I will probably find some other non programming hobbies for my spare time. I may pick up those radio control airplanes again which I had given up a few years back after a couple of crashes.

Many thanks AhMan for your hard work over the last year, much respect and good luck!

If you’re not sure what this shell replacement is capable of - read previous iR Shell coverage.

I can see quitting one kind of homebrew, but quitting homebrew altogether? That’s a lot to think about considering how many people like this app. But, very nice man. Great job in all.

Another dev leaves the scene… A sad day indeed.
It’s not open source yet so hopefully he will return one day to perfect his ‘child’ or open it to the dev’s so someone else will continue ‘raising’ it.
But everybody needs his free time so let’s just wish him a lot of fun with his planes or whatever hobby he might dig up to entertain himself.

Au revoir AhMan! Enjoy your Life!
May the source be with you! (^_^)/~

Awsome tool. Very much enjpoy it. Was hoping thought that one day IRshell would allow you to play wirelessly from Devhook, similar to how USB works.

Enjoy your newest venture.

I’ve been a constant fan of every single version of this program. I have downloaded every single one and suggested things to be implemented. Ahman, by far, is one of the most logical and realistic coders ever to be on the scene. Farewell, and good luck with other coding projects in the future.

We owe him a lot for such a stable shell so packed full of features. Thanks a ton Ahman, I don’t think it is sad at all. IrShell has progressed to near perfection, and nothing is close to it.

FUUUUUUUUUUCCCKKKK

there is so much left to undone ahmann you have so many things you could add why stop now, why not make a version so complete that it would be flashable so it launches on boot or at least a prx that would lauch the files from a memory stick on boot

i hope you just end up being like miceal jordon and just talke a break and then come back later

Nice work, too bad i upgraded to 2,80 last week (…). But As a Mac Fan I can’t bear the Vista style which is an outrageous copy of Mac OS X. I would havec prefered a MacOSX inspired Shell (instead of inpired of Vista inspired of Mac OSX) Maybe you could have two version (please…)

Giovanni, IRShell did so something amazing for me, it made my half psp working again, with combination of CFW. its all good. Also, another thing amazing is just the IR part. Everyday I bring PSP, load up IRshell and turn on the tv in the school caferteria and change to the channels I want….. all 6 TVs!….EVERYDAY!

@ giavonni
youre an idiot why post if you dont like it just leave it alone

@nicolas
there are many different skins for irshell, the vista skin is just one of many different looks for ir shell

@ cheesyxpsp1 & tyrian
from what i understand of the previous versions nethost has always given people a lotta problems on this app if it works at all, in the read me file it will tell you how to configure ir shell with all your router info so you can connect

as for surfing the net i think you will need some sort of application that creates your portal for you because as far as i know ir shell does not actaully include a web browser

Comment by cadaber
2006-09-13 19:47:25

@ candy man

ir shell boots when you select it under GAME/MEMORY STICK, once booted it acts as if any other homebrew would

although ir shell also includes a key on the menu that returns you to the XMB with out pressing HOME or rebooting

P.S. what is a good hombrew app besides this?

Comment by Coasterfreak212
2006-09-14 23:36:43

Do you have an xbox 360? IF you do, try it on that. Most likely, it’s not spoiled. It may just be the tv is either too old or too new. Basically, you need to get a new panasonic code.

does go into the game folder just like any other homebrew? does it run like DEV hook…to where you can use it then when your done with the IR shell you can go back to your regular XMB?

Comment by Jerkin (pronounced 'Yerkin)
2006-09-19 07:12:45

I think this thing did something bad, but I dont know how because I dont think it messes with the flash at all. I just know that I loaded it up and it kicked major ass for a week, then I was using Devhook to try and toggle between several ISOs and one of them was running so slow I figured I compressed it too much. Anyway it was either some Devhook problem or its this thing. Either way, what happened is every time I would be in an app or a UMD game and pressed ‘home’ and it would take me to the screen where it asks ‘yes or no’ to quit, the screen would be frozen and none of the buttons would work except the ‘home’ button again to take me back out of this screen. When I went back into Devhook it would launch but when it came time to toggle the ISO/CSO mode by holding down the ‘home’ and ‘L/R’ buttons nothing would happen as if they didnt work. When I tried loading IR Shell 2.2 after that, it wouldnt go past the startup screen unless I put it in sleep mode for a few seconds, and then it would come back but all it would let me do was change the volume (with a ‘VOLUME’ graphic that took up the whole screen in green letters). Sometime around this I tried using some of the flash features on one of the older Devhooks, selecting every option there was (remove all devhook from Flash0 and Flash1, install font, install kd resource, etc) and I think that made it worse. One thing I learned during that time is that my Flash0 is apparently ‘write protected’ now. I dont know how THAT happened or if its even supposed to be that way but I’m pretty sure thats the problem. I tried upgrading to 2.0 and then back to 1.5 and that worked ok but I still had the same problems. Tried going down to 1.0 and the downdater didnt work anymore. Then I tried installing the custom firmware and that worked but I still had the same problems. So I removed the firmware and upgraded to 2.6 thinking the downgrade process from there would wipe my flash entirely so I could start over fresh. HOWEVER, when it came time to use Fanjita’s Eloader those button issues I mentioned earlier became a real problem, since none of the buttons were working while I was in that screen mode and I couldnt select the downgrader option. Now my last hope is I am about to go to 2.71 and use the Photo exploit to downgrade and hopefully that will do the trick. If anyone has any ideas of what I did wrong other than comments like “ur an idiot” or “noob” (I already know these things from witnessing the half bricked hell I have created on my PSP, I need no further torture please lol)…anyway if you have an idea of how to help or whats wrong please let me know.
