Easy 2.0 & 2.01 Downgrader

greg | September 9, 2006

Thanks to the recent libTIFF exploit, the Noobz (based on techniques by MPH and SonyXTeam) have now released an easy downgrader for FW v2.0 & v2.01! This downgrader does not require a 1.50 FW dump/helper; however, you do require the 1.50 EBOOT (download below).

How do I use it?
—————-

That’s easy. First you need eLoader 0.98 or later (get it from www.noobz.eu). Install eLoader, and make sure that it is working for you by loading some nice safe homebrew (e.g. Squarez).

Next unzip this downgrader package onto your memory stick. You should end up with the EBOOT.PBP file copied to /psp/game/201downgrader/EBOOT.PBP.

Also copy the v1.5 Update EBOOT to /psp/game/update/EBOOT.PBP.

Now run the downgrader via eLoader. Assuming that your PSP passes the safety checks, you should be given a menu of options.

To downgrade, you need to select the ’set to v1.00′ option (the Circle button). This will fake your PSP to version 1.00. Once you’ve completed the process, you can run the v1.5 Update EBOOT, directly from your PSP’s Game menu.

Note that when the v1.5 Update is 99% complete, it will display an error message that it has ‘failed – contact Sony customer support, error code FFFFFFFFF’. This is OK! Just power off your PSP, and reboot it. You then get a blue screen, saying “Press O to reset your settings” in several languages. Press O, and your PSP reboots again – voila! You now have a v1.5 PSP.

Note that, before you install the 1.5 Update, your PSP is still really a v2.0 or v2.01 PSP, but it will claim to be v1.0. If you’ve changed your mind about downgrading, you can choose to rerun the downgrader, and restore your old version number, with either the Cross or Square button, as appropriate.

Alternatively, if you changed your mind about running the downgrader, you can just press Triangle to exit without changing anything.

Download:

eLoader v0.9.8
1.50 EBOOT Update

Ensure you read over the entire readme.txt before proceeding.

USE THIS SOFTWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK

This is just something nice to have if anybody (If there is anybody) that is currently discovering 1.5’s possibilities without ever updating. Now that I say that it kind of seems way off, people are more in the 2.7’s and 2.8’s now anyway. And those that did have a 2.0 are already in 1.5-land.

@ 14,

You’re a retard. If the firmware is 2.01 or 2.0 then it cannot be a TA-082. Only 2.5 and 2.6 have TA-082 motherboards. Jeez!

Is this a safe method like the old MPH one? I am looking for a safe method to downgrade compare to that of ver 2.5 and 2.6 currently which i heard is unsafe.

all you haters stop bein gay a lot of people had problems with the old 2.0 downgrader because there computers thought the old tiff file was a virus plus stop wingin about a 2.8 downgrader if you wanted 1.5 so badly you shouldnt of updated knowing you lose all homebrew if you want a 2.8 downgrader so badly do make one yourself i do however have some sympathy for ta-082 board users

@26 : the downgrader works great and like what 25 said its better because your computer doesn’t mistake it for a virus unlike the mph downgrader.

I’m one of the unfortunates at 2.8. My question is if and when there is a downgrader for the 2.8 to 1.5, how will I play the games that require 2.6 and up firmware??? homebrew will be great when that happens but I can’t give up playing madden and hockey online

wow this is the most useless piece of homebrew ive ever seen. it comes like 3 months after a downgrader for higher firmware so anyone who wants to use it had probly alrede downgraded, noobs is such a bad homebrew team, i think we shuld just try to shut them out of our lives and just pay attention to DarK_Alex hes a real coder

ok ok i have done it
u need to run the loader in tiff mode
Running eLoader : via TIFF mode
——————————-

- Make sure you have a custom wallpaper set. Any image will do.

- Use the PSP’s built-in photo viewer to open the “eLoader 098″
folder, this will cause the loader to start. If your PSP
hangs at this point, then try the following:

– check your firmware version. This loader is for v2.0 – v2.6
ONLY.
– check that you have the loader files in the correct
place (see above)
– turn your PSP completely off, then back on again.
The loader works best on a freshly-rebooted PSP.
– try setting a custom background – some people have
reported that it works better if you use a custom
wallpaper (any image).
– try ‘touching’ the TIF image file : see ‘fixing
up the file times’ below.
