iR Shell v2.1 Released

greg | September 8, 2006

AhMan has released a new version of iR Shell! The one and only shell replacement [for FW 1.50] capable of all this:

  • A true multi-tasking shell which allows you to multi-task between a UMD game/homebrew and any of the iR Shell built-in functions.
  • Allow listening to any of your favorite mp3s while playing UMD games or homebrews.
  • A built-in Universal iR Remote supporting over 2000 devices.
  • With the built-in file browser, you can browse files on your Memory Stick, UMD Disc, your PC hard disks or DVDROM drives via USB or WiFi. You can even open files directly from these devices by a single click, such as viewing PMP Movies, Atrac3s, PMF movies, Text files, PDF files, Bitmap Photos, Jpegs, PNG photos, PBP PSP apps, ZIP & RAR archives.
  • You can choose to install your PSP homebrew applications & files on your PC harddisk and access them via USB or WiFi on your PSP. This will eventually give your PSP unlimited storage access. With Infrastructure WiFi, you can access these homebrew apps or files on your home PC via WiFi hotspots through Internet.
  • Allow transfer of files between 2 PSPs via adhoc WiFi.
  • Advanced file management functions which can be performed on a complete directory tree.
  • Take snapshots of any homebrews, UMD games, MP4 movies or UMD Movies. For MP4 movies or UMD Movies snapshot, you can use the ‘Launch XMB’ feature.
iR Shell v2.1 Screenshot

Quite the overwhelming list of features… So what’s new in v2.1?

  1. Support 1.0 Eboot format. (Note: The APP view will not list Eboots for 2.x Homebrews that are designed to be launched from Devhook firmware emulation.)
  2. Support for __SCE__ naming convension.
  3. Both 1.0 Eboot & SCE naming can be enabled or disabled under iR Configurator. If you don’t use these naming convensions, you can turn them off for a faster APP view list.
  4. Allow removal of startup splash screen (configurable under iR Configurator).
  5. nethostfs server v1.5 is enhanced to allow read only access. This means you can open your PC server to the public without worrying files being deleted. Refer to the user guide for details.
  6. File Manager has been enhanced to support mulitple files/directories selections similar to MP3. You can use CIRCLE key to hightlight multiple files or directories and then perform file manipulation on them. You can highlight maximum of 10 files or directories. The mulitple selection will only work under DIR & RDF View. It won’t work for APP & SAV views.
  7. The location of each view (DIR, APP, RDF & SAV) will be remembered after toggle. Example, switching from DIR View to APP View and back to DIR View. The directory & cursor location will return to its original location before you left. Pls note MP3 Shortcut & DIR Shortcut are also classified as DIR View.
  8. Fix a bug introduced in v2.0 which restarts the current MP3 song when exiting homebrew. Now, the song should continue as usual.

Now breathe…

when it sez the bit about unlimited storage will we be able to “stream” umd iso’s over wifi so no more need for huge mem sticks so it would just take the files it needs?

@4 +6

put the IRSHELL folder in the ROOT of the memory stick, which is the folder where u c the folder “PSP”.

then put the 2 other folders IRshell + IRshell% or something in the GAME folder.

Make sure that you have a 1.5 psp.

@ 10 course you cant brick the psp, it doesnt write to the flash and yeh IRshell is worth it, i use it practically everyday.

@11

the creator of IRshell is against isos so doesnt allow them to be streamed. i dont think.

Rite so once again IRSHELL doesnt support devhook usage? Last time i tried to use IRSHELL it was a good experience except the fact that when i tried to use the homebrew shortcuts they never worked even though i followed the read me instructions down to the last T. Don’t supose anyone has any idea why? Plus some homebrew wasn’t recognised by IRSHELL at all ie: The sega master system emulator. Could it be that my folders have been edited with Sei psp tool?

@16

theres a hidden icon system which IRSHELL doesnt recognise and list, this is so you can select which homebrew appears in the list, (i think), and thats the __SCE__ folder naming system.

Freezes at the initial screen for me. 2.0 worked for about a month and then started doing the same bullshit. This program is the absolute best. I have my custom firmware just boot up IR Shell instead of the regular XMB. If the creator of this program is against ISO’s, then why is there an icon for Devhook? Devhook’s only purpose in life is to run ISO’s.

Hi guys, I have just made a compilation of the latest and nicest PSP homebrew games as well as some all-time favorites. It is called PSpastime Pack and includes Droplets, Sci-Fi YoYo, Trigonometry Wars, Luminex, Meltdown, PSP Connect 4, AOTM, Squarez, Sudoku by Chau Le, Vortex, pspChess, PSP Air Hockey, Laserix 2, Reactor, Electris & Simon.

Everything is in a zip file and ready to use on PSPs running firmware 1.0 and 1.5.

I want to share this compilation with the homebrew community and I would be very pleased if someone who knows how the process to post news on this site works helps me (or notifies the site administrator), so that this topic may appear at the PSP-hacks home page.

The file can be downloaded from the following link:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1J2B77E6

Hope you all enjoy it!
Thanks

Does iR Shell launch ISOs? Or would I have to jump back and forth between this and Devhook to be able to play both PSP games and run emulators?

@ dizzle

i dont think its possible but you should go and check the devhook tutorial in the forums section and read the entire thing until you find your answer

just start at page one and get your reading glasses

EDIT* the word “it” should of been in my previous post
can you guess where?

@ kim

you should get a psp tybe b driver included in your usb host bundle

oh yea you will need some sort of usbhostfs program running on your pc (atleast for devhook)

again like i said to dizzle you have to gop to the forums and read, except you have alot less reading
than dizzle. you need to go to the usbhost tutorial written by everyones favorite author, “CHOAS ZERO” the psp hero

heres a link :

besides, any firmware can watch videos without anything needed…

All these features and new look to the IRshell is good and all. However it doesn’t worth it if I can’t run it with devhook after changing the FW version :( .
with the old Devhook I could run IRshell and hear the music I like during the game – and even go to the pictures section and view a premade walkthrough for the game.

Now , the newer the FW version is the harder it is to run IRshell.

Is there no way to make devhook trick the PSP that homebrews are “not-hombrews” after changing FW ???

@ roni

that would be insane

quick question about ir shell (its a noob ?)
how do you get more than one mp3 to play at once?
or i should say more than 10?
can you just highlight the folder to play it all?

I tried reading the tutorial but can’t understand exactly what it means, but I got it installed fine. I just need to know how to stream files via wifi or adhoc/infrastructure/wireless from my pc
