Easy PSP Analog Stick Replacement
greg | September 4, 2006
Slow news on the hacking/homebrew front; however, here’s a useful MacGyver-like mod from D.J. Lee. Personally I have yet to break my PSP’s analog stick, but I’m sure many folks out there have, so here is a simple fix using some common household tools!
All too many people have lost their joystick nubs from their PSP. Me and my friends especially.
All it requires is a pair of tin snips (small pliers would work too), a thumb tack, and a metal file.
- Take the thumb tack, (preferably a metal, rounded one) and use the pliers to cut most of the tip off.
- See where your nub used to be? Check, and see how well it fits into the hole.
- Depending on how you want it to be, adjust it as much as you like.
- It may not fit too easily the first time, that’s why you have the metal file. Just file it until it fits snuggly in the hole.
Well, I hope that helps those of you without your joystick nubs. Mine hasn’t come out once, and it is much more comfortable than my old one, at least in my opinion.
Probably one of the easier fixes I’ve seen around… Thanks D.J. Lee!

first comment hell yeah
My analog nub has yet to break off, but I’ll keep this in mind for when/if it does. Thanks D.J. Lee. :D
Creative. I’ll keep this in mind when I need a temporary fix.
this is very creative i would never thought about this ahha. good work
This actually looks pretty sweet. I wonder if its better than the real thumbstick. I was hoping though that the next news post would be a 2.80 downgrader but oh well
been using this for about 6 months now, just thought it was so obvious that i never thought that people would publish it… but yeah for someone else being as cheap as me ;)
That’s lol!
i would recomend the psp “armour set” it had 7 diffrent nubs ranging in texture and size, they are very good and dont cost much.
this is a good thing to use if your waiting for a new one but i dont think id stick with a thumb tack.
Sweet, I can hardly believe this made front page.
I personally like it much better than the original.
Thanks.
very nice
i still love the sony analog stick :))
wow, this is a really cool little fix/mod. it always makes me smile when i see improvisation being put to good use. great idea and truely a money saver. now i can use my stick without fear of losing it. lol
YEA OK… why not jus buy a 3 pack at gamestop for 5 bucks you CHEAP ASSES!!!
Great idea! thanks for the tip….
it looks pretty cool aswell…i think im looking foward to breaking my analog stick now XD
Cant find where to download it :S And how do i install this on my PSP, is there a chance of bricking????
Hi, I had a question! This program X-flash that changes your font etc, touches your flash, isnt any other program/way that instead of changing the flash i can change the files of devhook on my PSP, change font etc så my PSP, is different only in Devhook, so that there is no risk of brick and it dosent touch the flash?? PLEASE GIVE ME ANSWER! :D
“Slow news on the hacking/homebrew front;”
2.71 downgrader? Slow news my ass? Whatever.
Nice mod.
Heh, looks kinda ghetto to me. :)
gay idea weirdo
Lol at #14
This mod just seems tacky to me I would rather replace it with a proper one.
HAHA stupid losers!
I’ve also lost my analog stick..
Just sent a mail to SONY and they sent you an analog stick for FREE!!!
Why spending time to make a thing like that! :d:d
Well, my other PSP doesn’t even have a nub. But this is a good tutorial.
I really hope 14 is just kidding…..
It’s just a cheap trick, no need to be so….
….
Well, I dunno the word, but c’mon,
“Altoids Sour Can” UMD cases was posted too.
And to #15, Yes it screws with the psp’s flash.
But…..
Why are you asking here?
-_-;
And by slow news, there hasn’t been anything new in
a few days.
14 LOL! Nice.
good idea i guess just take the stick off demo units if you lose or break the little nub. i have 3 extra myself any time i see a demo unit i take the nub
I made my friend and I custom thumbsticks from old ps2 controllers. They worked really well. All you have to do is use a dremel or something and carve out the round part to the ps2 nub, then it will fit like a glove… or something close to it.
I also take off the nubs from demo units from the mall and best buy… i have maybe 4 laying around.
lol this is pretty awsome and u guys that take all the nubs leave sum for me lol and at 25 i tried that and it worked for a while then it broke my analog mechanism and had to pay $30 and void my warrenty and at 14 your an idiot
Dumbasses just use your dick to replace it!
i put mine in wrong way
A pack of 3 replacement nubs costs less than $10 at any game store. Come on. Are we THAT cheap that we need to use a (slippery) metal thumbtack as an analog nub?
Wish they would make an usb ps2 joypad for my tekken needs , the little piece of tech simply cant withstand my violence.
And I wish they would make a working double psp case for both my psp’s
And and I wish they’d make an interface for my laptop usb drives so I can use them WITHOUT a computer..
Chew on that for a while!
what did he use for the analog stick
hey #12 some pewople like being creative. and those things suck they turn the stick and mess it up. or the is wut happend to mine. this does work good thiugh. the game stop ones are to tell.
Thanks for the laugh #28… that just made my day.
my friend drop his psp and the analog goes to the LEFT
can this correct that by chance or is this thumbtack thing, just for show???
