Easy PSP Analog Stick Replacement

greg | September 4, 2006

Slow news on the hacking/homebrew front; however, here’s a useful MacGyver-like mod from D.J. Lee. Personally I have yet to break my PSP’s analog stick, but I’m sure many folks out there have, so here is a simple fix using some common household tools!

All too many people have lost their joystick nubs from their PSP. Me and my friends especially.

All it requires is a pair of tin snips (small pliers would work too), a thumb tack, and a metal file.

  1. Take the thumb tack, (preferably a metal, rounded one) and use the pliers to cut most of the tip off.
  2. See where your nub used to be? Check, and see how well it fits into the hole.
  3. Depending on how you want it to be, adjust it as much as you like.
  4. It may not fit too easily the first time, that’s why you have the metal file. Just file it until it fits snuggly in the hole.

Well, I hope that helps those of you without your joystick nubs. Mine hasn’t come out once, and it is much more comfortable than my old one, at least in my opinion.

Probably one of the easier fixes I’ve seen around… Thanks D.J. Lee!

This actually looks pretty sweet. I wonder if its better than the real thumbstick. I was hoping though that the next news post would be a 2.80 downgrader but oh well

i would recomend the psp “armour set” it had 7 diffrent nubs ranging in texture and size, they are very good and dont cost much.

this is a good thing to use if your waiting for a new one but i dont think id stick with a thumb tack.

Hi, I had a question! This program X-flash that changes your font etc, touches your flash, isnt any other program/way that instead of changing the flash i can change the files of devhook on my PSP, change font etc så my PSP, is different only in Devhook, so that there is no risk of brick and it dosent touch the flash?? PLEASE GIVE ME ANSWER! :D

I really hope 14 is just kidding…..

It’s just a cheap trick, no need to be so….
….
Well, I dunno the word, but c’mon,
“Altoids Sour Can” UMD cases was posted too.

And to #15, Yes it screws with the psp’s flash.
But…..

Why are you asking here?
-_-;

And by slow news, there hasn’t been anything new in
a few days.

I made my friend and I custom thumbsticks from old ps2 controllers. They worked really well. All you have to do is use a dremel or something and carve out the round part to the ps2 nub, then it will fit like a glove… or something close to it.

I also take off the nubs from demo units from the mall and best buy… i have maybe 4 laying around.

A pack of 3 replacement nubs costs less than $10 at any game store. Come on. Are we THAT cheap that we need to use a (slippery) metal thumbtack as an analog nub?

Wish they would make an usb ps2 joypad for my tekken needs , the little piece of tech simply cant withstand my violence.

And I wish they would make a working double psp case for both my psp’s

And and I wish they’d make an interface for my laptop usb drives so I can use them WITHOUT a computer..

Chew on that for a while!
