Number 12, If you have a 2.70. ust upgrade it to 2.71 and then downgrade to 1.50. Anyways……I just tried it for my friend and it works pretty well. Guess I can upgrade it to 2.71 to mess with it and if I miss my 1.50, I can downgrade it back lol. Thanks!!!

Number 17, take the chances. Because I did this with my 2.6 PSP and I was scared too but it was pretty easy. Just follow directions properly and you will have a 1.5!

Hey, I’m woundering the same thing. The instructions say to get a 1.50 friend to get the Downdater files however the rar i downloaded with this post has the folder already in. Is this the folder I need and am I ready to go with the files off this post?

Wooooohoooooooooooow, it’s true! All files are included in that rar-package! You really need to try it a lot, ( me eleven times!) But you can be sure, it will become red after a while!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is just 5 seconds after you open the image browser!!!!!!!! Waaaaaahoooooooooohooooow….

Ok but really, just carefully read threw the readme, If you do everything that it written there you’ll have a fw1.5 PSP. Then, you’ll probably sing the Happy Happy Joy Joy song. Either that, or it’s an ID10T error.

I BRICK MY PSP, V2.71
I follow all directions and the red screen turn on.
But happiness turn to absolute terror when my psp went off after two second the red screen was on.
The screen is black ever since and I cant turn it back on.
This might possible be the biggest trauma in my life and it hurts like you can’t imagine.

Wow, simply amazing, never thought they make it this fast, since kernel mode was never reveild existed, awsome, the only question is, and this might not need an answer, but since the older downdaters needed you to at least update firmware once so you can do this, this doesn´t specify this, does that mean you can just downgrade a non ta-082 2.71 factory installed psp?

it worked for me took 3 trys to get red screen and took about 6mins on the red screen but it works all good now :D

Did you atleast check to be sure that your motherboard was non-TA 82? Just curious as to why your downgrade resulted in a brick.

I don’t know and no my motherboard was just a regular one, I checked. I suspected my dump file was mess up. BTW I GOT IT FROM THIS SITE NO OFFENSE. the size was 19mb and the suggested size was 13mb.

Nice. I tested this myself because I know how it felt when I was downgrading. So I upgraded my 1.5 PSP to 2.71 and downgraded. And I also downgraded my bros PSP. This is the best! I’m just giving those guys that are too scared, motivation. Try it guys. Take the leap of faith and you will have a 1.5 PSP!

Yeah i noticed that about the file as well, it should 220 files and 13mb right? but its 284 at 19.6 mb??

79, theres one on this site, just look in the PSP Firmware Updates part of the site, you should be able to use the jap or usa version, i have a jap. psp and the euro updates worked fine :)

Well I’m pretty ****ing pissed about it but there’s nothing I can really do. I’ll just call sony after work tomorrow and tell them I tried to upgrade to 2.8 and it crashed or something. Maybe they’ll buy it or maybe they won’t. Either way they’ll probably send it back as-is if they’re able to see if I attempted a downgrade but it’s worth a shot I suppose.

@ 94, Dude, if it froze, format your memory stick and put everything back on as instructed. I had to try 25 times before I got it. So, put downdater in root, the tiff file in photo and the other one that goes in the root along with downdater. I did this for my bro BTW. So after that turn off your PSP. turn it back on and go to photo and the red screen should start. Make sure the charger is plugged in. And wait till the red screen is gone and your PSP is off. then turn it back on and you will see some blu screen, press O and it will restart again and you will have a brand new 1.5. If it doesn’t start right away keep trying till you hit that spot! I g2g now so I hope I helped.

Yeah, just tell them that after you upgraded, that instead of it restarting, it just wouldn’t come back on. Try to get your money back and order a fw1.5 PSP off of eBay.

IF anyone is asking for files, dont bother. I used the ones on this site and after about 10 reboots when it freezes when you go to open the picture, it turned red, took a few minutes, then shut down. I turned it back on and BAM, 1.5 budddddddy.

Put the downdater folde rin the main screen. where you see PSP and MP_ROOT. Put the .tiff image in photo and put the .bin in the root where you see PSP and MP_ROOT. Thats it and run the .tiff.

I cannot stress this enough…EVERYTHING YOU NEED IS IN THAT DOWNLOAD. Just copy everything that’s in the MS_root folder to the root (X:\, X being the corresponding drive letter) of your PSP.

169 open the UMD slot on the psp and look inside at the motherboard…make sure you dont have numbers on the right side. You need letters on the left.

There are to many morons here ,just download the files from this site format your memory stick copy the files go to photo and see/open the tiff file and wait for the red screen, if you dont see it reboot you are safe until you see the red screen, then when you see the PSP will shutdown and the glory of 1.5 will be yours or you got a brick

my psp is better. i can run 2.71 on a 1.50 using devhook and i even changed the font, icon names, and i even installed my own wallpaper with the wavy lines. i even can install my own theme packs to the 2.71 devhook that includes custom gameboot video, bootup sound and backround with wavy lines so screw the downgrade. oh, i even have the xbox 360 boot up sound for devhook 2.71.

Sent psp for fix, they could not fix it so they replaced my new motherboard with 2.71 firmware, it was not a TA-082, today I downgraded to 1.5 :)

Hey people, please tell me what I’m doing wrong. I’m trying to update to 2.71 so I can use this downgrader. I’ve got 2.6 at the moment and no GTA, so I can’t downgrade otherwise, right?
Anyway, I put the update eloader into PSP\GAME\updates and when I try to load it, the PSP tells me the file’s defect and it can’t upgrade. What am I doing wrong?

For everyone who ended up with a firmware version other than 1.50 this is simply because the DOWNATER folder that you had wasn’t a “clean” dump (meaning it was from a 1.50 PSP that had custom firmware) Simply download a program called X-flash. Run that program on your PSP and go to the 9th option. It should be something like “APPLY FIRMWARE VERSION 9.99 SPOOF” Press left until the “9.99″ changes into 1.50 and press X. You should be all set then.

1. Once you get red screen wait untill the psp goes black or turns off. (Go to the kitchen and make a bowl of cerial and eat it. If you restart during the downgrade you will get bricked).

2. Turn on your psp.

response to alex_laban - I used the american 2.71 upgrade from the downloads on this site to do my sons psp, then copied the files supplied in this downgrader to his ms and all i can say is keep trying. Make sure its not the ta082 board!

5)take the tiff and put it in C/:MyComputer->F/:PSP->F/:PSP/PHOTO
6)OK Now eher come the moment of truth….
7)Start you psp with 100% battery power and on ac power
8)Go straight to photos then hit X
9)If you do not see a red screen after 10 seconds hold the power button/switch
10) Redo it all (format ur memory stick and redo it all!)

I see a full red screen, but after ~30 second, my PSP automatic shutdown.

What would you guys recommend: I currently have 2.6 firmware would it be better for me to update to 2.71 and then downdate with this or use the 2.5/2.6 downdater. Does this downdater have a reduced risk of bricking if you follow the instructions than the other downdater ? Thanks.

@241 i would rather use the 2.6 downgrader its been know to be more successful and this just been release so its not guarantee to work… but always remember USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

To all you guys asking about psp serial numbers. There is only one important question. Is the Motherboard of your PSPs a TA-082 (you can easily check this by opening the UMD Drive and looking inside for this number:

(there are some people stating that there are currently new PSP wit the TA-082 but without the visible number!! So be extra cautious if your PSP is too new.

It doesn’t work with those MBs because they were designed to prevent the usage of updates that are of a lower version than 2.5. This is somewhat achieved by assigning a unique key to every psp. So to actually get it to downgrade you would have to dump this key so it can be used to prepare a working ‘upgrade’.
Meaning that this downgrade would then only work on the PSP wich was used to dump the key.
If you are more interested in this you should read 0omks Blog (the link is in one of my previous posts)^^

It should be no problem to use a non european update on a european PSP. But try not to use the Japanese one because X and O are swapped in JP.

And just to be extra clear be sure it is not a TA-082
otherwise it’ll be an instant brick.

I have a 2.7 european psp, downloaded the 2.71 us update, downloaded the downgrader from this site, did everything exactly as written in the readme and in the second try i saw the famous red screen. Everything ROCKS!!!!! thanx goes to all the people who made this possible!!!

u guys left out downhelper that should be in the game folders so some ppl wont kno what to do when it comes to dump from a 1.5 eboot

@Tayaki theres over 200 comments if you had read some of them you would see that people have confirmed that it works and also for all the people saying that it doesnt contain the downdater file it does if you re download again now its been updated it has all the necessary files for the downgrade and if you follow the read me properly their is no way you should brick downgrading is really easy if you know how to read

if it helps extract the files from the ms_root folder in the file you downloaded to the psp, it should replace the psp folder already on your mem stick. there shouldn’t be a extra folder in the mem stick I kept doing it wrong the i replaced the folder and bam it woent to red a second ago

I got a Bricked PSP now, Not a T082 was running 2.71, ran on 1.5 first to obtain firmware then ran on 2.71 exactly as per instructions, screen went red for abot 15 seconds, then went black, PSP will not boot now, stays on black screen constantly flashing the memory card light, can anything be done with this PSP or is is dustbin material

Eventually got the red screen, currently still going. fingers crossed.

by the way if theirs any other noobs out their like me that couldnt figure out how to get the upgrade from 2.6 or whatever you have to 2.71 then just do the following.
1. download the upgrade from this site
2. goto /PSP/Games/ then make a new folder called UPGRADE
3. put the EBOOT.PBP file in the folder you just made. then just start it as you would any other game.

So based on this info can you now guess which files of the downgrader package can be deleted safely?

The lack of information doesn’t make it easy to help you….. but just a guess. Could it be that you are trying to run homebrew created for a higher or lower FW than 1.5?
If no, then try coping the two Folders for each brew one by one with the %Folder always as second one.

And btw we all can upgrade. I’m sure about it so no point mentioning it.

Alright, I read 75% of the posts, but i’m still not quite sure if i did something wrong. I followed the directions and whatnot, but when i go to view the tiff my psp freezes and i have to start it over. Is it supposed to do that, and should i keep restarting?

I’ve done everything the Read Me, and Power forum post said, and I still can’t get this to work. I put the DOWNDATER, PSP, and BIN file in the MP_Root part of my memory stick. I have the AC charger hooked up and everythibg, but when I go to veiw the file on the photo section, nothing is there. I already tried moving the PSP part of the folder over to the photo section, but that just causes the PSP to freeze, and go black. I’m thinking that I missed something in the instructions, or a part was left out. Any help you could give me would be appreciated.

I just hope with “MP_Root part” your reffering to the root of your Memorystick (MS_Root) and not a Folder named MP_Root.
If you copy the content of the directory MS_Root directly to the root of your Memorystick as it is shown in the Power Forum Post there is actually nothing you could do wrong.
The PSP will then either freeze or show the red screen as mentioned in my reply to twenty-two and in numerous other comments on this page.

I don’t think it should have anything to do with it but, could it be that i’m using a 32mb memory stick instead of my much larger 2gb memory stick?

Insomnia, you’re probably right, but i’m getting a little impatient is all.

I am not so sure about the relevance the size of the MS has in this matter. But a fresh formated one should be the best start. You can try it with your bigger MS if you like. That shouldn’t be a problem, i think. The rest is just sheer patience. and be sure not to get too much routine in restarting so you won’t accidently restart when the screen turns red just because you had your finger on the “trigger”

I just hope you dwnlded the pack after it was updated with the fix for the flash addressing bug

Shit…I tried the Downgrader27I_full program, and I think it bricked it. My PSP froze completely, and I tried reseting which didn’t work, and I took out the battery, and the power light is still on. Woh…nevermind…It took it like, 7minutes, but it shut-off. Use precausion I guess..

If you turn the psp on after it was off and the screen stays black while the ms lights are flashing than u can be pretty sure that u have bricked the psp.

3.WILL IT REQUIRE FOR YOU TO GET A “1.5 USER” WHICH IS HELL FOR MOST OF US?

4.IF IT INDEED IS EASY, AND WORKS 100% WILL YOU PUT A FEW EASY INSTRUCTIONS FOR THOSE THAT ARE WORRIED ABOUT SCREWING UP, IF IT REQUIRES STEPS TO ACCOMPLISH?

Anyone has tried the easy 2.71 downgrader and it works? Last time I bricked my psp while downgrading from 2.6, even though I am using non-ta-081 motherboard.

The only thing the Easy Install does is automatically unpack the the files to the MS. I’m pretty sure the Fix will allready be in it.
And for the 1.000.000th time. It’s an all-in-one pack. So the necessary 1.5 files are allready in it. Geez. Instead of impolitely screaming this large post you should have read the page.
But if your still unsure then use the Normal Full Pack and READ the readme aswell as the Forum Thread mentioned in the Original Post. Reading all the Comments will improve your chances of success even more. Now get reading! And next time you ask for help, don’t use CAPS Lock!!! -_-

It Works!!!!! Upgraded my 2.70 to 2.71 and then downgraded it all the way down to 1.5……..And I’m a noob. People just read the “read me ” file inside this download, I also saw some people asking “what read me file?…..Uh the one you get right after you EXTRACT this download.LOL

just downgraded my bros. psp! worked great! took about 4 tries. just follow instructions, dont be a dumb ass, and it will work! now on to two player gaming with iso’s! tits on a ritz, that’s a good cracker!

ooh shit! ….make sure you check to see which motherboard you have first!! flip the psp ova and open umd deck…in upper right corner on green circut board, if you see “ic1003″ your psp will brick!!!! check before you try!!

To find out if it’s a TA-082 open the umd drive and look at the top right corner (of the green board inside there,lettering will read backwards from your view)if it has ANY writing on it you are screwed if not you’re a winner. I just tried the easy 2.71, didnt work!!! I don’t know why, but i followed all the instructions. I’m not a dumbass, but lucky enough it did not brick my psp. Anyone else got this to work?
Would it make any difference if i was to format the memory stick?

yes yes can confirm this works got me the red screen on second try. but now that i have devhook emulating 2.71 everytime it reboots to 2.71 if i go to photo viewer it crashes but when im on 1.5 it doesnt. Strange must be a bug for booster to fix in the Devhook Program. Nevertheless thanks for filling us in about this downgrader this site rocks always has the best info.

#383…your PSP probably crashes when using Devhook to emulate 2.71 because you still have the TIFF file used for the exploit in your PSP Photo folder, you should remove the file after downgrading because you don’t need it any more.

mine just keeps crashing when going to the photo menu, not going to a red screen at all. Do i need to keep trying ?

well i just downgraded mine to 1.5 and i have a busted UMD drive,crack noise.(didn’t detect any UMD even in 2.71 ver.) i have some iso and 2gig stick.. how can i play my iso’s in my new downgraded FW1.5…best iso loader that didnt required or asking for any umd disk??im just noob

the root of the mem stick is where it says MP_ROOT and PSP, right? or is it inside MP_ROOT? i put the folders in the first one and i don’t get the red screen.

Why are people so impatient? It’s not like they can pull out a magic wand and *poof* 2.8 Downgrader.

Damn i’ve been running the easy downgrader, my psp didn’t brick, but even after 20 times trying to go to the pics reader, it keeps crashing, and did not seen the red screen any time, still sometimes it crashs and restart itself , bu sometime i have to take off the battery to off the psp and restart…. may i continue try load the tiff until i get it? or restart from begining?

411, same thing keeps happening to me, except i didn’t use the easy downgrader. i just can’t get that red screen! it keeps crashing when i get to the photo viewer.

Last night it took me around sixty tries to get it to downgrade.

this is what should happen if everything is in the right place.

WHEN YOU GO TO THE PICTURE VIEWER ONE OF TWO THINGS SHOULD HAPPEN

You will either immidiatly go to a red screen and begin to downgrade

Your psp will freeze DO NOT WORRY. restart your psp and try again,keep trying until you get a red screen then leave it and wait for it to crash on its own. it will restart with a blue screen, and in several languages say something about pressing “O”. When you do that, your PSP will restart and, like magic, you will have a 1.50 psp firmware.

ALL FILES ARE INCLUDED. YOU DO NOT NEED ANOTHER PERSON WITH A 1.50 PSP TO DO THIS ALL FILES INCLUDED.

TO SEE IF YOU HAVE A TA-082 MOTHERBOARD:
OPEN THE UMD DRIVE OF YOUR PSP AND LOOK IN THE TOP RIGHT HAND CORNER.
You should be able to see a portion of the motherboard. There will either be numbers there, or not.

I just succeded AGAIN in downgrading my psp. Good luck.

I also got a lot of trouble entering the RED mode, after 20 restart i simply first went to System Settings and I loaded System Information, then i went back and startted the photo viewer … BOOM Red Screen and a fresh 1.5 install. Thanks guys, you really made me happy !

im REALLY scared my psp is just frozen at the photo page and its not blinking or anything and i cant restart. what does that mean. MY PSP IS BRICKED!?!?!?!
