I echo what was said above about this being released a little too early – it’s obviously now very very unlikely that a similar exploit will work come 3.0 (or even 2.81/2.9), and if Sony had no idea about the security issue, it would have been a bigger hit against them. I’m not saying, however, that this particular work is designed to be something as coarse as a “Fuck Sony”, but they may as well have maximised their gains over two whole firmware releases (1.0 – 3.0, even if 1.0 had a great deal of freedom). It would have been lovely to play “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories” one moment, and an emulator the next (on the day, or in the week, of its release)…

That said, this is obviously great, great work, and my thanks goes out to them. It’s going to be an interesting few weeks to see if exisiting 1.5 homebrew will run through the exploit, although, even with little technical knowledge, I doubt it will. I guess the dream to get universally compatible homebrew applications is a little further off (perhaps an impossible distance) than homebrew for all. I assume we will have to pick each of our homebrew versions, and I have no problem with that. Delighted .

Or so I would say if I was stupid like the rest of the noobs. I’m new to this too, but I understand that this is a great step forward. I got my PSP a few months ago and it had firmware 2.5 on it. I updated that to 2.6 and didn’t update since, hoping that I could get homebrew working once I can afford GTA. I got that last Saturday and of course it was patched, I didn’t have much hope but then again it’s no big loss, I’d have bought GTA anyways.
This new exploit gives me hope, so kudos to the hacking team and keep up the good work!

This will probably make sony bring out there FWv3.0 early, they were keeping this one back to be released at the same time as the PS3, it supposedly has the long awaited PSone emulator which in itself will tempt ppl to upgrade, I will be one of them as I am lucky enough to own 2 PSP’s, anyway well done on this discovery, this means also that ppl on ebay wont be making a fortune selling overpriced 1.5’s because they will nolonger be a rarity.

now all they need to do is implement the eloader into the tiff hack and then bam total homebrew

To stop it from autorunning do what was done in the Tetris libtiff exploit on 2.0, http://noobz.eu/.

Simply put it in a folder with the hello world file and another image file which was modified before the hello world file.

To open just open up the folder the hello world file is included in.

if any of you have ever looked in a programming book, you’ll notice the first piece is on a ‘hello world’ application. it’s merely that – an example. in this case the example is that foreign code can be ran on these firmwares. further development will result in more advanced software.

anybody expecting this to do anything other than show an example of code compiled and running will be sorely disappointed.

If your are running Windows on your computer find a program called command.exe and run it then type in this “format c:” then we wont have to listen to you bitch. If you have a mac find a program called terminal and go into it and type “sudo rm *” it will ask for a password type in the admin password. Now all your problems are gone. You wont get anymore viruses and your program on your computer wont crash anymore. And we wont have to hear you bitch about the program not downgrading your PSP.

Homebrew WINS over sonys firmware!!. The homebrew scene on the PSP is MASSIVE!! and will never go away, lots of very good updates recently!!

In fact this hack uses Tiffs images again, but the reason this works is that it uses different application calls that the orginal hack did not used. Sony patched up the other and not this other.

now it’s just the mighty question; upgrade to play VCS (if required), or wait for homebrew emulators..

I have a ta-082 fw2.60 factory and I am so excited to see all this progress lately. I was a little disappointed that Oakms solution only applied to 2.5 factory but with this and the way things are going it shouldnt be long. I will deff be donating to serveral programmers for their work/efforts and urge others to do the same to show your support for the work. As for all the newbs out of this 200+ posts that are being rediculas with their comments only wanting to play pirated games they do not support the hard work and shouldnt be allowed to enjoy these fine new (upcoming) releases. Thats a very nice breakthrough (checked it out two days ago). Don’t worry if they change the code entirely in 3.0, I bet someone could crack the code anyday (finding a new exploit that might’ve not work or may work on earlier versions before 3.0).

Be patient about the new E-loader, since Rome was not built in one day. Rome being built in one day is like saying, everything can be built in one day.

Anyway, good job on the breakthrough. Each time a new version comes out, may patch bugs and other exploits, but also leads to other exploits never seen before. That is all I have to say with my two cents.

Damn, there are quite some idiots here. I got it to run on my 2.80 PSP although it has some issues, I sometimes get a black wave going up and down through the text, or black flicker, sometimes it shuts my psp off, but this only happens when I run it and I don’t have a UMD in the PSP. This is great news for the PSP-homebrew community, it might take a while before a good loader gets out, but it will be worth the wait.
