PSPMaster: Sega Master System/Game Gear Emulator Update

greg | August 24, 2006

Today [Bo]Trops has released a new version of PSPMaster. The emulator responsible for successfully emulating the classic Sega Master System console & Game Gear handheld. And I must say - it does a damn good job!

game gear freakin rocked except it was as big as a car… and with a tiny screen… and it took like 6 batterys.. and it was only like 3 hours battery life.. but it still was great lol

yo man dont be downing the gamegear. Just think, it was out the same time POS gameboy was out. gamegear=16bit, lighted colour screen while gameboy=black and white, small screen, which fades when battery gets low. Its like choosing a DS Over a PSP.

The Game Gear was 8-bit - you’d think more though because of its 4096-colour palette (32 on screen). I have one here in my room still (with the t.v tuner). I remember my Father modified the aerial so that I could watch t.v. from the main aerial socket in the wall (pristine quality). The last time I used it properly was for World Cup 1998 (when I was in secondary school).

There are still a few games I would like to try that I could not afford to buy as a child (”Sensible Soccer”, even though I had it on the Amiga, “Road Rash”, because I loved the Mega Drive/Genesis version). It worries me slightly though - I’m not terribly fond of emulating fully either the Amiga or the Game Gear, mostly because I have strong memories of both, and playing the Game Gear on my PSP may be a little weird…it’s a little sacrosanct. If somebody can get “Dreamweb” for the A1200 working on a PSP through PSPUAE at some point, I may change my mind on the Amiga front…

I’ll let you know.
