WiFiController v0.4.2 Released

greg | August 13, 2006

David Rudie has released a minor update to the highly favoured PSP WiFi controller. Currently used in conjunction with PPJoy, WiFiController enables your PSP to act as a wireless controller/joystick for the Windows operating system. v0.4.2 includes two minor changes:

  • Rewrote some functions to clean up code more.
  • Shortened all message displays by 1 second.

The future TODO list and changelog for the upcoming v0.5 release is what really caught my attention -

First and foremost, Mac OS X support is already in the works! As well as a potential new Windows server for handling joystick communications. That aside, v0.5 will feature:

  • Added kernel mode to 1.x versions and removed the other for 2.x.
  • Removed flicker from menu.
  • Slowed down menu input so it’s easier to select a config now.
  • Fixed some wording.
  • Renamed SocketTest.exe to WiFiController.exe.
  • Changed the invert button combo to NOTE + UP (1.x kernel mode only) and L+R+Select for 2.x.
  • Added a modifer button (note) to allow more buttons. (1.x kernel mode only)
  • NOTE + UP = invert Y, NOTE + L = L2, NOTE + R = R2. (1.x kernel mode only)
  • Cleaned up display some more.

Once again, USB support (although obviously not the primary focus of a Wi-Fi controller) would be a lovely addition (if there was no response lag), as I don’t have Wi-Fi.

Heya Codehax - I’m a nice guy, pleasant and grateful, but unfortunately unable to code. I appreciate his work, but if he was doing this for me specifically it would have Usb support, so, with all due respect, I cannot see the logic in your angry little post.

Wa Wa all you need to do if you don’t have wifi is to go to a store and ask them for wifi router. then go home plug it in. then take one ethernet cord and plug it in to slot 1 and the put the other end of the ethernet cord in to the computer. You DO NOT have to have internet for this to work. tada now quit comeplaning about U Suck Ball’s(usb).

On a nother not i have one qwestion to ask why at sertin time it lock up and losses connection then when i try to get a new connection it will freezz? what is going on is it the PSP or the computer Or the Cnection

Um for the first poster, why would you want video via usb when you can just watch on the compter? and also, video via wifi is done already. Get pmp or pimp streamer or more. Theres alot of video streamers now.

On this program, nice work. Great coding. Although the only emulator I have and like to use on the pc is for nintendo 64, not enough buttons on the psp. Great for other ones though, like playstation (but then again you don’t have r2 or l2, which brings me to the question “how will games on the sony playstion emulator for psp function without the two buttons?”) Luckily, I have an xbox 360 controller for all my needs. Great if I want to play from my bed though, (my comp is in my room). Great job, great response, but i had trouble with the analog stick, I could only do x- and y-. I’ll fix it later.

I’m running 2k pro. When I’m attempting to have windows setup the joystick, I’m getting nowhere.
I select the psp from the menu and I get a not connected messege. Other then that I can confirm it works. I can boogie around my desktop but not select anything. Anyone else experience this?

My wifi has been broken since using this program, i now get 80410A0B failure when trying to scan for a network or connect to my already configured profile. Has this happened to anyone else and does anyone have a solution.

Just for those people who would like a decent wifi mouse for their psp. I used the winstick mouse and it works horrible only 4 directions. With the software listed below it gives the range of a joystick.

Easy to install(just program on PC) and it’s free.

Just remember before starting these programs begin sockettest.exe from ppjoy and connect to it wifi w/ your psp.

Creates the Wifi Mouse:

Winstick(it’s a good app to control winamp)
