Daedalus R7 Released!
greg | August 13, 2006
StrmnNrmn has just released Daedalus R7; – the quickly maturing Nintendo 64 (N64) emulator for the PSP. R7 comes packed with many great improvements, as per the changelog below:
- [^] Avoid checking for interrupts in dynarec code in most situations.
- [^] Optimise dynarec Load/Store instructions to avoid checking for interrupts directly.
- [^] Implemented the remaining 32-bit integer instructions in the dynarec.
- [^] Implemented the remaining commong load/store instructions in the dynarec.
- [^] Implemented JAL/JR in dynarec.
- [^] Optimised various texture cache related features.
- [^] Added various known value optimisations to the dynarec engine.
- [^] Link together blocks even when they exit with branch likely instructions.
- [+] Added option to allow frequency of texture update checks to be reduced.
- [+] Added the ability to configure buttons
- [!] Fixed a couple of compatibility issues caused by the dynarec.
- [!] Fixed a couple of issues related to self-modifying code and the dynarec.
- [!] Fixed issues with the framerate counter flickering.
Here’s what StrmnNrmn has to say about Release 7:
The main emphasis has been on improving the framerate of as many roms as possible, but I’ve also made some significant fixes to the dynarec engine which should improve compatibility for a few roms where this was causing problems before.
There are two settings you should be aware of if you’re looking at getting the fastest possible framerate. The first is on the global settings page (that’s the one you see on the main menu as soon as you boot up). You’ll want to set ‘Tesselate Large Triangles’ to No here. The next option that helps boost the framerate is set ‘Texture Update Check’ to Disabled on the Rom Settings screen. A combination of these two options give a significant speedup in various roms.
In R7 I’ve also added the ability to define your own custom controller configurations. You can define a new controller mapping by adding a new .ini file to the Daedalus/ControllerConfigs directory. There are a few examples in there already, and I’ll look at posting a brief tutorial up here sometime soon. If you come up with a new mapping you think would be useful then email me (my address is in the readme.txt) and I’ll post it up here and add it to a later release.
StrmnNrmn has gone beyond the call of duty and has yet again reached another astonishing feat. A sincere thanks from PSP Hacks for such an impressive release!

Thank god! was awating it’s comming!
does it work for 2.6?
does this work on 2.6 psp
Keep up the good work
it works with 2.6 and lower… with 2.5, 2.6 use e-loader..
Need to know does this work for the psp?
will he continue to upgrade this emulator?
amazing! keep up the good work man, when this is finished it will be the best emulator for the PSP! thanks a lot!
Awesome GOOD WORK. I WAS WAITING FOR IT
dont get excited, its still slow and super smash bros wont run.
SOUND SOUND SOUND please :D
yesss good job now playin star fox 64 the first mission now if it only had sound
slow but still playable,
i just increased the framerate and its fast for me
2.7 will never see homebrew how sad
Does with work with DevHook or do I need to edit my .prx files?
whats the source code for???
@boxxy
if u are using devhook then u have a 1.5, just install it into the psp/game folder
StrmnNrmn is my LORD!! BOW TO HIM
Ya u need to disable the large triangle option to make it faster it got to 20 fps in game!!!! Its already incredible!!! Now we only need sound. I’m sure the next version will include it, can’t wait for it. And some more roms compatible and its gonna be awesome. Just keep up the good work. My psp won’t be a paperweight :P
But I have one little question, why doesn’t it fill up all the screen?
sound wont come out untill r10 or more and for the guys with 2.XX download the 1.00 file great release will test later
“Need to know does this work for the psp?”
i am really amazed nobody has laughed at that question yet….
so i will HAHA loser :D
conker’s bad fur day doesn’t run at all
mario party, paper Mario, Mario tennis, mario golf crashes.. so far can only play Mario 64 and Mario Kart
I see the great day comming where I´m playing StarFox64 at full speed with sound EVERYWHERE^^
You are great, thank you StrmnNrmn Continue your good work, so the day I´m waiting for comes true ;)
how do u disable the triangle option to make it go faster???
how do you get this damn thing to work!!!! none of the games i ttried work???
none of my roms will show up in the rom selector screen???
its getting better but if anyone thinks it will ever have full speed and full sound your crazy i just dont see this thing ever really being playable. i sure hope im proved wrong but that rarelly happens
to ????, its in the options when you run R7
I agree with EATME, The PSP processor will never be powerful enough to do what we want the N64 emulator to do. I want Multi, I want sound, R7 doesn’t even have full framerate yet!!!
What are the steps to get Mario 64 to 20 fps?
How does the save function work? i had the feeling that it would be activated after pressing select, but no. If i just save in mario after getting the first star when i load r7 up again the save game is not there.
:( please help
ps: to get mario @ 20fps….. in setting turn tesselate triangles to “OFF”, then select the rom and load it. you are now at another settings menu… select “texture update check” and set it to disable…. your now good to go
Great work but I can never see this being playable .
All I want is a decent GBA emu and ill be happy .
will this thing have wifi support? or will it be awhile till StrmnNrmn can make that possible?
Its still at its early stages. But People who say it won’t be perfect aren’t completly wrong. Even the Xbox can’t emulate the N64 perfectly.
this is great news! i just hope that conkers bad fur day will be able to run…. also, i think this has great potential, but for right now i would be in agreement with people who say that the best thing to do is to continue to get the framerates up so that this thing will be able to handle sound when it becomes reality. and yes, multiplayer would kick-ass :-)
ano mario is going fast well paly ablr
not true!!! its all a matter of beign able to understand the n64 codin and translating it…..so its just a matter of finding out a rout for the psp in wich it will fully understand the n64 codings…
Wow alot of people in here are very pesimistic if that’s how you spell it. People do crazy things all the time, i’m damned sure that eh’ll get it to full speed soon enough. All you have to do is wait.
any one havingtrouble getting yoshi’s story running on this or anyother emu. i couldn’t get it to run even on project 64 for my pc.
@junkmonkey
Are you kidding me? Of course it doesn’t have full framerate, do you have any idea how young of an emulator this is?? You have to take into consideration how long this has been out, and that there is ONE person working on the project, heck SnesTYL was out for around two years before being full speed with sound etc etc. and that was with a team of coders. So, for the amount of progress the one coder has made for Daedalus is amazing.
yea this guy is the best!!!! and we all have hopes on him!!!and i know he will do it!!!! no matter how much of a mission impossible it is…….u gotta admit it, hes the ONE…..he will do it and WELL BE GRATEFUL!! no more idiots flaming his ART ok and we just wait and compliment his progress……
o7
Very impressive.
ZOMFG YOU ARE TEH PSP JESUS. I’d say PSP God but i think that title is taken :)
after it loaded you dont need the memory card
I think that is why it goes slower than the original system
the original system was always because it cant work without the game after it started so it went faster
If it was always loading it would have sound and go faster
@ adam
You might be right :O or maybe totally wrong lol. I don’t know alot about programming but I know emulating a console is really complicated.
@ Tyrian
Do you know what emulation is at least? Just think about it Xbox can’t even emulate the N64 perfectly.
Anybody know how to save in Mario 64? The battery back up save does not work, so i’m just wondering if there’s a ’state save’. Thanks.
woppie fu**in do
what a load of shite
