PSP WiFi PC Controller
greg | August 5, 2006
Update: Interesting discovery by Chuck (in the comments)… With the PSP WiFi Controller + Winstick (available here) it is now possible to control Winamp, the mouse, and Windows Media Player on the PC hosting the server - directly from your PSP!
What an ingenious idea - using your PSP as a WiFi controller/joystick on your Windows PC!
Quoted from the readme:
This basically turns your PSP into a controller for your PC (running Windows). How it works is that PPJoy provides a way to create a virtual joystick. We can then communicate with this virtual joystick as though it were a real joystick. This is accomplished by running a server in Microsoft Windows. The server just runs in the background waiting for a connection. When you start the WiFiController program on your Sony PSP it will establish a network connection over wireless using infrastructure mode. Once it establishes a connection and obtains an IP address it will connect to the server running on your PC. Once it has connected to your PC it will act just like a regular joystick.
You’ll be required to download PPJoy separately, here
Otherwise the zip archive contains the PSP EBOOTs, Windows server application, and all the source code. And of course the readme.txt covers installation and usage, as well as some more background information on the project. Great work David Rudie!

Awsome ive been wanting to buy a controller for my pc but now i dont have to
Thanx
USB SUPPORT PLEASE!
I almost purchased a new controller to play emu’s on my pc with last week. Now I don’t have to. This is rad.
its a long process … im stuck with the edit wlan file ..how do you input your ip into there?
1) Open the PSP directory and edit the proper wifi.cfg for your PSP version
tooken from the readme…i only need to sort this out and i got it working..
stupid
awesome!! btw cool kid, go screw urself if u can do better then ill eat my words, fckin ingrates…
this is hella sweet, perfect for mamewah
holy shit this completely saves my ass!
ima give it a go and see if i can get it to work.
Could you make this work off the USB cable? Please!
Who run or know how to run this on 2.80?
refild_3650@mail.ru
Yeah please make this work with USB!!
Yeah, PLEASE make it work with USB!
If it did work with USB also, it would be great, otherwise its unnessesary beacause i must buy wireless router that cost kind of a much, i can just buy a controll instead then, SO PLEASE MAKE ANOTHER ONE WITH TO MAKE IT WORK THROUGH USB!!!!!! WOULD BE GRRRREEAATT! ;)
Very good app, though it would be very good if it also had USB support ;)
USB SUPPORT NEEDED !!!
Yeah i agree with the others it would be great with USB support also !
Gah, yeah please USB support!! USB PLEASE :|
This work with all firmwares???????
AWESOME!!! GOT IT TO WORK…SOOO SICK!!!
BTW Read the Readme with MSWORD…that might help…Other then that this works perfectly!
Just make sure you read the instructions…or else nothing will happen!
psp control sucks count me out.
this dosnt make any sence seeing the psp is not the best controller. Its a great app and congrats to the maker. But i find it usless seeing i bought a ps2 like controller for the computer with rubble feature dual analoge sticks. Both of which the psp cant do.
So great app just no use.
What’s the point of making the PSP a USB enabled controller? There’s plenty of cheap USB controllers around. Now a decent wireless controller, those are not cheap. Either use this or go out and buy a USB controller.

Why not make it a USB controller and also a Wireless Controller? 2 is always better than 1.
Hey just wondering in this thread
Somebody post a cool link for a good PS2-USB converter or a Homebrew way of making one. Thanks!
This is a long and annoying process, i forget wut u have to do to get the SocketTest.exe to work if u do it wrong…..
for all ppl out there, no this does not work on all firmwares, only on 1.50 and 1.00, if u have neither, stop reading, buy the Modchip, then return.
@ferg:
I haven’t found a way for that on the internet yet, but, a pretty good site to check out for some stuff for that wuld be http://www.i-hacked.com
Has anyone found a way to use this to control the mouse or/and winamp of the PC hosting server?
It would be pretty nice to be able to control the volume of my winamp and change song directly with my PSP!
It would transform my PSP into really cool remote control for my laptop!
LOL… I’ve just google it and found out there’s already a cool winamp pluging for that, you can download it from :
http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=142181
You can now control you winamp and mouse with your PSP!
Enjoy!
Chuck
does this work with firmware version 2.8
How about a progie that works the other way around? I’d like to use a usb-compatible controller to play psp games, because the PSP’s controls suck balls!
all u ppl requesting usb support dont understand what this program is for, its WIRELESS, THATS THE POINT, and surprizingly it doesnt have any delay when pushing a button, it works flawlessly, all u ppl get over the USB SUPPORT WOULD MAKE THIS WORTHLESS
Does windows detect this as a game controller? if so. what settings? 4 button gamepad or 6 button? ive tried using this playing NEORAGEX but cant seem to detect the gamepad.
the read me file was enough to get me going, even though it is kind of jumbled together. this works better than the last one they put up. I tried using ZSNES and Visual Boy Advance so far… and they have no problems
Open the readme file with wordpad for proper formatting. Followed the readme and this works great. Now how would you go about adding more connections besides the default Home connection?
I think this is awesome, i just wish i didn’t get a RunDLL error everytime i try to calibrate it, etc….what else can they come up with for PSP!? It does everything a PC does! Music, movies, Internet, photo’s, etc…and of course, games!
When i open the app in my psp it says 0 connections found.
I edited the wifi.cfg with notepad and put in #adress=xx.xx.xx.xx
but still psp cant find a connection. what do i do wrong?
All you ppl who say there is no point of making one with usb support, then why is so many ppl requesting one? and there could be one with wifi and one with usb support why not? :/ I dont want to go buy a controller when i can have one for free? IF there will come a app with usb support. SO PLEASE MAKE ONE WITH USB SUPPORT!
PLEASE MAKE ONE WITH USB SUPPORT!!!!
In my PSP Root, there is no “wifi.cfg”. I created one, but am unsure of what to type in there, as when I tried “#addressxx.xx.x.x” (those “x”s being my IP address), it didnt work. So what do I type in the wifi.cfg in the root…?
is psp wifi controler and the other one psp to joypad the same
if yes wich one is better from someone that tried both please
For those having problems with the app, try having a look at the Windows Firewall settings. Mine was connecting, Windows was detecting the controller, but in the calibration panel, nothing was happening until I disabled my firewall.
As for the “wifi.cfg”, I’ve modified it at 2 different places for the address:
On PSP:
\PSP\GAME\__SCE__wificontroller
On PC:
…\WiFiController\src
Polsky:
You need both!
I only had to add IP address to the wifi.cfg on the mem stick. If I’m not mistaken the ..\WiFiController\src folder is the source code for this program and is not needed unless you wanted to compile the code for your own development.
Thanks for the winamp plugin find Chuck. Works great and was something I was looking for too.
USB SUPPORT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We need USB!
usb is stupid, the WHOLETHING IS MADE FOR WIRELESS WIRELESS WIRELESS DUHHHHHH
@Chuck how did you modified them.
like only in the file “#adress=xx.xx.xx”
or
“adress=xx.xx.xx”
or what?
i realise how to config the wifi file but maybe im typing in the wrong ip addresse .. is their a certian way apart from the cmd route to know my ip
Well, if your run “ipconfig” in command prompt and the IP address of your pc is let say : 192.168.1.4
Your wifi.cfg on your memory card should look like that:
# set the address of the server…
# note: make sure there are no spaces before…
address=192.168.1.4
Don’t put a # in front of your address, else I guess it will pick it up as a comment… plus try address with 2 d’s. Again, it started to work for me when I disabled Windows firewall… If it’s still not working, read again the readme file, you did something wrong !
USB!! And for you people saying theres no need for USB just cause you have a wireless router, em thats kinda like saying theres no need for a 2.8 downgrader because I have 1.5. Maybe you dont need it but I do. So can some one please add usb suport? Please
how do i get this to work??
@scottlive
by carefully following all the instructions in the readme file.
USB Port would be great…
u got it workin but it wont work on any emulators (project 64 1.6) can u help me get it workin on it plz??
On the last version i had a rather upsetting accurence. everything with the program that runs on psp it self worked fine, and the server on the computer aswell. BUT, “PPjoy” caused my psp to lose its USB 2.0 functionality some how (and possibly more, i didnt waste time to find out) i ended up just system recovering to right before taht installation. everything wnet back to normal ONLY after removing “ppjoy” and all of it contents. so im a bit hesitant to test this one aswell. im sure the “psp wifi controller” works fine. just not sure about “ppjoy”. anyone else have any problems with it in some way like i did?
PaNNaP (Pronounced: Pan-Nap)
why not just buy a basic 10 dollar 8 button controller. i have two. screw this lame app.
thanx chuck ill try that out
as for pple wanting usb just go out and buy a controller man… this is a cool app coz its wireless even if the psp buttons arnt upto much
no oens ever gonna be satisfied…if it was usb then pple would say WIRELESS WIRLESS ..gsus guys cmon
btw the future is wireless so just go out and get a fukin router ..i feel for those with wires
big relief i got it working…coz i dont use wi-fi on 1.5 i didnt have my network settings dun on my psp…once i did that its picked up a signal
hey, this is a great application for the PSP. i got it to work as a mouse with the Winamp plugin, but the mouse pointer moves too slow, is there a way of making this move as fast as a real mouse?
this kicks ass! oh, and DON’T do USB! hehheh!
this is actually realy cool i used to play 007 seven emulotor on my cumputer yay for spelling
ya the winamp thing is so amazing..i been showing it off allday
USB SUPPORT!! WHY NOT? CUZ U GOT A ROUTER? WHY NOT BOTH! SELFISH BASTARDS! :( NOOOO!!!! I DONT WANT TO BUY A CONTROLLER WHY WHEN IT COULD BE FREE?? FUCK THAT USB USB USB USB USB :D
why the hell are all you people saying not to make it for USB. How does it affect you? If it were only for USB and you new it had the capability to be on Wifi youd be requesting it. And why the hell would I buy some controler for my computer, when I paid 250 bucks for my psp. I wanna get the most out of this thing. Saying we should buy the controller is like saying we should buy the psp games. How stupid can you guys be. This is psp-hacks. Why not get it free. Im sorry that I have dial-up and no wirless network in my house. And why set one up just for this? This app should be easy to include USB so why not add it. Damn!
lol, noobs. WiFi is great, but adding USB connectivity would expand the usability of the hack, not to mention the problems some noobs have configuring their wireless. Also, it would be more battery efficient - using WiFi on the PSP takes quite a bit out of it.
By the way, I followed everything the readme said, and it all seems to work, but for some reason when I go to calibrate it, none of the buttons work. I did everything EXACTLY as it said. Help please, anyone?
@DanThaMan
Haha. Stupid idiot.
Hope it will never works for you!
Hint: Windows Firewall…
(read commments above)
Ive got the same problem as DanThaMan…..
And Windows firewall is turned OFF , and ive checked my other firewalls too , they’re all OFF .
Anyone know whats wrong ?
has anybody tried playing any roms online with this? most the time when i try i either cant move (in game) or the people im playing with cant move (depending on who’s hosting) ive already tried several controller plug-ins. if anybody know a way to make this work (or if it will even work) please let me know.
Works great but it could be even better if you didn’t have to connect your psp to your computer to alter the IP address. Having to connect the psp every time my network ip changes kinda defeats the purpose of it being a wireless controller. Otherwise, im quite happy with it.
This worked great! Played some games with it, it’s a pity the PSP “Select” button placement sucks.
Chuck, thanks a LOT for the tip re: WinStick, it worked wonders! Now I can — as you — control my laptop remotely. Great for presentations and watching movies, playing music…. It’s a pity it takes so much battery power.
I’d love to see a version that does NOT update every 1/60th of a sec, since I don’t need the analog input. Might not require as much battery power…
Hi, I installed and ran everything as written, and the PSP is communicating with my PC…how can I control my computer remotely? The PSP is on a screen that shows my button layout and highlights whatever button I press - I can’t seem to activate it as a game controller. Any suggetions?
O NO!!! it wont work on my X64 OS?!?!?!?!
Any work arounds??? I hope so!!
I want to play Flat out 2 with it!
You guys..Im having trouble getting this to work. I followed the instructions (exept for the “Set custom mapping for this controller” because It wasn’t there) Could anyone tell me what Im doing wrong or wht they did right??
