@None/Or anyone having problems installing

On the homepage you will see a headline titled “Firmware 2.80 Dumped!”. Scroll down a bit and download the 2.80 eboot, PBP Unpacker, and the Dev Hook 2.80 Installer. Install PBP Unpacker (installation if for Windows). Using Winrar, extract firmware 2.80 from it’s compressed form. Then, using PBP Unpacker, extract the file DATA.PSAR into the Ms0:\ (the memory sticks root directory). Create a folder labeled “280″ under/in the folder labeled “dh” which is located it the root. Now extract the Dev Hook 2.80 Installer into Ms0:\PSP\GAME. Disconnect from USB mode. Now run the Dev Hook firmware installer in the PSP’s XMB. Now enjoy 2.80 emulation.

Well, this is an improvement as I’m not having corruption issues on the memory stick but iso loading is certainly having new issues. I’m about to download .42 or .43 and stick with that until all the issues are for certain fixed.

For Everyone who does not know what this does, or writing to the flash meens, don’t fucking write DevHook to the flash memory (it’s like directly adding a Mac emulator to ur Windows system)!

I do not recommend this until it has been proven safe to use (and yes i meen as safe as the 2.00->1.50 downgrader).

I’ve read all the readable readme’s, none of them say anything about it also writing the dumped firmwares to the flashmemory, so u must leave them on there, it only writes the app to the flash, so u can run it a little faster.

Comment by Squidman
2006-07-28 13:47:01

@ace:
I read what u wrote about how to get 2.80 emulation early……..u sir a little off on that, considering the fact that the “reboot.bin” has not been decrypted yet. So it cannot run. Nor can it run with anyother reboot.bin

Comment by Ace
2006-07-28 13:52:30

Yeah, my mistake. Could you explain what exactly is the reboot.bin and what is it’s exact function?

Are you also implying that this dev hook release is therefore unfunctional?

Well, I just written to the flash using the devhook flash writer (it’s within the devhook main eboot, not exactly a good idea). My psp works fine. I’m not sure whether it’s actually doing anything or not.

I’d say it’s safe. :\

Ok, just tested it out, it does seem to be going a bit faster.

@Ace:
I don’t understand the function of the “reboot.bin”. I think it tells the firmware to run the specific processes that the PSP does when it runs, so basically, each firmware has a custom one that tells it to do the same things but in different ways……..

That’s my guess….

Oh, and no, i’m not saying that this version won’t work, i’m just warning the n00bs to not try the flash thing, they kinda don’t sell 1.5 PSP’s in the physical store, just online, and n00bs don’t go there to buy things.

so this version isn’t unfunctional, just a basic warning to ppl who don’t read everything through ;)

Again, ppl, i’m here to help as i did with the past versions, especially with .45 for some reason, so ask me if u need any help. But i won’t help with ISO’s or the flashing it to the PSP parts ok?

@aaa:
wait, is it only doing the BSOD for 2.71, or for ur real 1.5 after u reboot, i got the BSOD after i dumped 1.5 and tested it with DevHook, so if it’s only for 2.71, then i’d manually check the files on the memorystick.

If a bunch of randomly named files (such as squares or random shapes and so on) then delete it and put it back in there

If u can’t delete it then run a disk check by:
1) connect ur PSP to a computer and go into USB mode
2) clik start
3) clik on “run”
4) type in “chkdsk e:/f” (without quotes ofcourse)
5) a window with a black screen should come up, follow the instructions that come up

If this doesn’t work, then ur memorystick might be fake……..hope ya didn’t get it from eBay! ;)

@none:
Just leave the homebrew on 2.71 thing to the developers, just wait for some1 to create a program that does it for you, it’s a long and confuzzling process to do it, so don’t bother with it, ok? ;)

@Ryu:
No, u don’t need the reboot.bin to return to 1.5, DevHook will emulate the firmware, but when it returns to 1.5, it’s telling the PSP to get the firmware info from the PSP itself instead of the memorystick….which is wut is happening when it emulates the firmware but vice versa (hope that makes sense!)

@Mianvro:
as i said, i don’t understand how it works, but thanks for the info.

In a way i can understand the 2.60 version workin on 2.71 because nothing really changed, like nothing was added to the XMB, just added codecs so to speak….

I can confirm that 2.71/2.60’s reboot.bin doesn’t work on 2.80, tried it the second the 2.80 decrypter came out hehe :)

Just tested:
Without devhook written to flash it takes 15 seconds to make a new connection within the browser, while with devhook written to the flash it takes 6 seconds. Many things go a lot faster too.

And yes, I believe you do write stuff into the flash while using devhook (stuff like connections).

I also believe the flash mod only works with emulating 2.71.

Also, it says WORKS ONLY WITH AN UNMODDED 1.5 on the flashing screen.

My 1.5 has been flashed atleast 30 times by XFLASH, 10 times by Themepsp (including fonts), 3 or 4 times with the devhook thing, and 5 times, flashing custom firmwares on and off, so yeah.

a ripkit removes unwanted or unnecessary aspects of the umd image, and recreates it without these aspects. for example a ripkit might remove all languages except english, in order to fit it on a 1 gig stick, or one might remove the movies if they were not interested in the story. basically it is in the interest of memory stick space…

well, the way i’m reading, i’m guessing that u must have the ISO in the uncompressed form, not the way that MPH or DevHook can read it.

then once u get it in that form, run the file called RIP.bat

press Y when it tells u to, then open the ISO with the latest version of UMDGen, and do “Tools->Advanced Options->clik on Disable Optional Paths”

then once u do that, rebuild it, and compress it with CSO set to level 9

I hope it helps, but i don’t know, i’ll have to try it myself with another ripkit on Coded Arms.

I already knew that things such as browser history and RSS feeds were written to the memory stick (ms0:\PSP\SYSTEM\BROWSER & ms0:\PSP\SYSTEM\RSSCH).

But I was wondering whether things such as connection status or better stated “Network Settings” (WEP Key, etc) were written to the PSP’s buit in NAND. I tested this by booting without my stick inserted, but it still had my Network Settings “remembered.

While emulating the firmware it won’t let u select yes when exiting from a UMD? it works for me, and no, that’s not supposed to happen, try re-installing the firmware on the memorystick.

1. Can this be safely installed over harleyg’s custom firmware? If so, is recovery mode functional and accessible?

2. Can this be used to load ISO games off a MicroDrive or SD card (DATEL and NEOPSP users) ? Or is it still slow and can’t properly emulate 2.71?

I can clear up some issues with the flash writing in devhook 4.6:

yes i tried writing to the flash and returning the flash to normal had no problems there and ran great.

Now I did run into a bug where it almost looks like your psp is bricked: I installed devhook 4.6 went into flash option and then pressed triangle to go back i pressed exit and restarted the psp when the psp came back on i put it into sleep mode and after about 30 minuts turned it on and reformatted the memstick after reformating the memstick i got the screen of death the one you see when your psp is bricked. thank god when i restarted it returned to normal. im thinking it has some kind of bug that messes it up when you go into the flash menu in devhook then reformat memstick it causes some kind of corruption
