The new firmware version [2.80] for the PSP is here! Fetch ‘em all below.

Even if I had 2.71, it still seems like one silly fucking update (bar the security issues with 2.71 emulation). Nothing worthwhile in it whatsoever, judging from the release notes. At least 2.80 is closer to a round number though, so Sony, you’ve made this boy happy…well…not really, you’ve been real dicks on this PSP thing (and don’t get me started on Playstation III). It’s a pity too - I used to like you in a way that made the sun shine out of your ass (until I covered it).

The only True firmware upsate that would ever come out, would let you do anything a pc can (play any format), IM’s,Better & Faster Web Browser….but thats a little too far fetch for sony, hackers could just make these and wrap em up into a custom firmware and BAM (y)

hahaah that wuld be funny if we can alrede decrypt 2.8… if thats tru, give booster a day or 2 and 1.50s will have it emulated. if they arn’t decryptable with the 2.7x PRX decrypter, give dark_alex a few off of his work with custom firmware and he’ll decrypt them:P
Lets see I unfortunately have a 2.60 TA 082 which seems to be useless 4 homebrews cuz it will brick my psp if i try so i might as well upgrade right cuz it seems like sony did a good security job on these psps. U see if sony was smart they would allow homebrew\emulators in a way that they could profit from something like what nintendo wii is doing with there new system duh!

Yes, i tested it right few minutes ago, and the binaries look very decrypted like :))) hahah, if i’m not work, that i will surely not take more than 2 days :)))) i hope Booster and and dark_alex will noticed this as soon as they can…
the only thing i couldn’t thest, is the reboot.bin decompression. but maybe also this works without problems :)

it’s not clearly written here, but FW2.8 update gives the ability for RSS Video Feeds through the browser.

if you have homebrews on your 2.6 , it wont brick, its as good as 1.5 however you cant use kernel modes,devhook, etc. you can have emulators for super nintendo, etc. using grand theft auto. and who knows maybe dark_alex will find a way to downgrade for us.

I use http://www.coolroms.com u cant get marios, donkey kong, or zeldas, ull have to get them someone else though they are removed but u can find pretty much any other game u can think of .

Okay..I updated (my 2nd PSP, my 1st stays 1.5 for life) and now you can make a folder called VIDEO in the root of the memory card where you can put MP4 video files….and you can name them anything you want…they don’t need to have the LONG ALPHA-NUMERICAL file names that PSP video files had to in the past……..HOWEVER…..it doesn’t seem to support the THUMBNAIL FILES, even if they’re named the same thing. Since sony doesn’t have any official info on this up on their site, I guess it’s a wait and see. And, yes, the OLD video folders still work with the old filename types and thumbnails. An interesting update to say the least….I wonder if this is for some OTHER type of video format that they’ll be intergrating with the PS3 or Tivo (which I heard they were in negotiations with for over a year regarding Tivo to go files)

I’ll just wait for the devhook since I just downgraded my 2.00 PSP to 1.50 even though I could since I have a 1.5 PSP already that I bought of ebay. but if this can be put in devhook then no need to upgrade. Thanks Booster and everyone involved with Devhook and the installers and shit that make the PSP easy to run homebrew and have the latest FW available for the newer UMD’s and Iso’s
Even the JP site translated doesn’t have any info on the new VIDEO folder and how it’s different from the MP_ROOT folder we put videos in previously…other than that you can now have one. Interesting….well, I’m sure the US site will be updated by the end of the weekend / beginning of the new week.
this is off topic but i just want to get the word out!!
while emulating 2.71 on a genuine jp 1.50 i was able to access p-tv
1.) must have a true genuine jp psp
take out the battery and if it has SJxxxxxxxxx as a serial number then its japanese. if it says SUxxxxxxxxx then its US i assume europe would be SExxxxxxxxx but i dont have a eurpoean one so unsure on that
2.)must have devhook v .45
load devhook and set it to emulate firmware 2.71
3.) from the XMB i was able to see p-tv as an icon under the network(globe) icon, it was at the bottom
4.) i was able to access the p-tv option, connect via my wifi connection, and flip through the menus, however i was unable to download the videos because it requires user name and password
5.) the font is japanese for the most part but there is some english
6.) as far as i can tell you must download the videos hence you must supply user name and password i dont know if it possible to stream them or not
7.) i made a crappy video of it with a crappy camera its a little shaky(understatement) but i only have two hads and its hard to hold the camera in focus while manipulating the psp,

What it means about the music, photo, and video folder thing is that you can now save stuff to your music, photo, and video folders. At least thats what many other psp sites have been saying.

yes you can downgrade
download the 2.60 - 1.50 downgrader from this site
make sure to get the windows installer version and just turn your speakers on and follow the directions
you will need an original gta:lcs umd
by the way can anybody find an original jp 1.50 eboot?

you must check in the proper spot and make sure load the downgrader i told you to get and it will show you all you need to know

Okay, like I said before…you can make a VIDEO folder on the root, drop ANY MP4 formatted video into that folder and name it anything you want….but it doesn’t recognize the thumbnail files that 3GP or other PSP movie converters make….anybody have any clue ….. about why this feature exists, why the thumbnails don’t register….or any ideas at all on this strange feature popped up in this upgrade?
