PSPkit for Mac OS X

greg | July 23, 2006

Are you a Mac OS X user finding difficulties installing Device Hook? Kevin has emailed me a handy little .app that is responsible for automating the installation process with a few simple mouse clicks. The package includes everything required to get up and running: DevHook v0.44 (no mods - BOOSTER’s straight release) and FW 2.71. Follow these quick steps and you’re on your way to firmware emulation heaven!

  1. Connect your PSP via USB
  2. Open OSX_PSPkit.app
  3. Select ‘Devhook v0.44 installer.app’
  4. Select your mounted PSP memory stick
  5. Watch files copy to the correct destination

Wait - there’s more! PSPkit for OS X also includes two other user-friendly tools: easily backup/restore your PSP’s memory stick, and automatically rename your homebrew in PSP/GAME to hide ‘corrupted data’ icons.

Thanks to Kevin this should definitely help many Mac OS X users out. Enjoy!

That isn’t very nice. You do know that Greg has a mac, right?

Anywho, for those of you who don’t feel like being a pain, and actually use this, feel free to let me know of any bugs, and I’ll be sure to fix them in the next release.

Good work. But how about usbhostfs does it even exist for the mac?, I know it does for linux, but I could imagine it would be great for mac users if their isn’t one already.

@(poor little) justin
Loooool you must be joking right? You do know that working with a “real” secure windows configuration limits you even more than with a mac, unless you are apparently a n00b like your self and don’t actually work with tools and/or programs, hell even play a game once a while that NEED an administrator account to even function!! It’s almost time for your monthly tuesday patch. Go get it, it will probably fix one of the thousands publicly available exploits.

I’ll stick with linux, way better than WindOWNED XP. Next step a mac!

This is very sweet indeed! Altshiiva handles the video conversion for PSP quite nicely, but having a Devhook installer is beyond cool. Sure Virtual PC can run the Windows versions, but having a native OSX app rules. ^.^

Now, about those downgrader installers….

I’m a PC to Mac Switcher and haven’t regretted my choice one bit. Better security, a powerful command line, nice desktop UI etc.
It’s great to know that people are building Mac PSP apps. I haven’t tried your app yet, but my suggestions are to include DevHook 0.45.
A Mac ISO->CSO app would be great too. If someone could point me at the source, I could try compiling that on the Mac.

Jeanluc: If you can recompile it, I will be more than happy to add it into the next version. I know the source is floating around here somewhere. Do you have an email or something for me to contact you at?

CSO is not, for the moment, available for mac.. at least to my knowlage. If Jeanluc can recompile it, I will certainly include it in the next version.

Drew: Would you like to see a downgrader installer in the next version? There will be limits coming for this stuff. (I.E- the user will have to find the files themselves, for size reasons)

I’m glad y’all like it. I’m already working on scripts for the next version, as well as several code improvements.

cso is the only thing mac users desperately need.. we can do everything else… im meant im not being ungreatful, because i always like seeing people do shit for mac, but really, all the stuff in this app can be done pretty easily… CSO compression is something mac really needs, if your going to update this app, make CSO your highest priority…

Kevin: Nah, I haven’t tried compiling the CSO utility because I didn’t know where the source was. Will do a quick Google when I get home in 5 hours though.

Thanks for this. It’s good to see OSX is not forgotten.

Does anyone know of a way to edit PBPs in OSX?

I want to change some ICON0.PNGs and stuff but don’t want to start up VirtualPC.

Uh oh… a Mac vs Windows argument. The only reason I am on Windowx XP is the many applications, games, etc. plus if it was really secure, and super stable (Windows Vista?) then I think I would love it. I have had Mac OSX crash on me too though a couple times. All computers do it sometimes.

Both are great though, hopefully all of the nad things about Windows goes away with Vista, but I feel it may be the opposite.

Its nice to see someone supporting OS X with PSP homebrew software.

The only other thing I need is a program like PSPBrew and I’ll probably never load my Windows partition again (Intel MacBook Pro running OS X and Vista Beta 2).

Guys, in the Maxconsole PSP forums, there is a thread where someone called dago compiled a nice GUI app for CSO compression. Works great. There is a PPC and Intel version. The thread is “CISO for OSX.”

There is also an OSX usbhost, which also works fine. It is in a thread called, “usbhostfs MacOSX ver. (for iR Shell 1.6).” It works with Devhook too.

What game did you get that gameboot.pmf from? That’s really neat!

PS: I tested out the installer on my 32 MB stick and it worked great. The only thing I could fit on there was the Loco Roco Japanese demo. ;-)

Why are people using CRAPPLE anyways? Macs are for people who don’t know how to use computers and “think” they are cool.

The problem with windows Xp is that there is alot of that bad spyware and adware for it and also viruses. You have to keep updating xp just to keep it secure!! The MAC OS has alot less problems with these things!!!

Cheers Greg, nice to see another OSX app for the psp.

I’ld like to add my voice to the many wanting CSO compression. Also a one button solution to removing any .DS_Store files from the MS would be handy as well.

Word out to the people doing the flaming. Whenever theres a PC app released you dont get a whole load of Mac users comming in and calling people n00bs.

A computer is a machine to do a job. You get what suits your needs.I managed to pay off my new G5 in couple of weeks doing freelace graphic work.

Every tried doing commercial graphic work on a PC?
Not fun.

My 2.0gz Duel G5 with 4.5GB RAM suits me just fine even if it does look like a cheese grater…

well I’m glad mac users can enjoy their psp without having to use their freind’s pc. Also anyone who plans to get a mac doesnt have to worry about not enjoying their psp. Good work. I myself am a pc user and will be untill the very end but it doesn’t mean I hate mac users and besides with mac’s having intel chips pc’s and mac’s won’t be that different anymore.

Well then, now with CISO_DAX out, I don’t think I have to worry about adding that in :P

I certainly will work on other ideas, but it will largely be code improvements/bug fixes now.

Did anyone actually get any cso’s made with this to work? I compressed MLB 2006 The Show down to 800mb and launched Devhook 0.44 with the CSO selected but it just freezes up. Hear others are having problems too. I’m able to load other CSO’s that I downloaded though.
