Daedalus R6: N64 Emulator Released
greg | July 19, 2006
Hey, how about that – a new Daedalus [N64 Emulator] release! Daedalus R6 primarily focuses on graphic related problems/issues, as quoted by StrmnNrmn, author of the PSP Daedalus port:
For R6 I’ve mostly been focusing on fixing a number of graphical issues (namely adding combiner modes to popular roms). I’ve also managed to add a couple of nice usability improvements (in particular mapping the c buttons to the dpad, using the circle button to toggle back to the n64 dpad)*. I’ve also been able to track down a couple of bugs that affected stability.
Also included with R6:
- Added over 50 new combiner modes
- Added support for c-buttons
- Load roms from ms0:\N64 in addition to local roms directory
- Fixed backface culling issues
- Correctly implemented flipping to avoid flickering with certain roms
- Plugged memory leak in texture handling code, fixing various crashes
- Fixed issue which caused screenshot function to hang the emulator
You can fetch both 1.0 and 1.50 EBOOTs below. As usual, additional details can be found in the ‘readme.txt’ and/or you can read previous Daedalus coverage.

Awsome news! good work guys! keep it up!
1st lol, znyways whats the speed now? is it actuaally playable yet?
damn 2.00 FW!!!
Woooo! 4th to post!
Great! keep it up guys.
is it playable and decent yet or is too slow sttill?
Still slow but running better then before. Can’t wait to have it fully playable and be able to have some sound as well
thnx for the info scott dunt
yeah cant wait for the sound and at least 15 fps!
Still not playable. Until then, I will stick to my Snes emu.
This emu will take maybe a few months untill we get a really good playable speed, let’s just sit back and maybe hope for PSPVBA to get fully developed, so we can play it whilst we wwait for the n64 emu
Sounds Kick @$$!!!!!!!!!! Can’t wait to play the fully functional vers…..Keep up the good work guys!!!!
Imagine if STRMNNMN would team up with ZX-81,this emu would really ROCK!!!!It would have sound and play at almost full speed!!!So come on whatta ya say you guys team up huh?
Great, keep up the good work
I will test this one out :-D
bec
Please die slowley and painful. People release this to show the improvment. Dont want to waste ya time. Its really simple, do you have a pen and paper, DONT TRY IT :) that simple really it works.
Guys stop saying not to release unfinished versions!!!!!
if u looked into it u would find that this has been posted onto his site and then someone from psp-hacks has put it here. also i like to see improvement
Say… Why are somebody complaining.. when they don’t pay for it… And, somebody is doing the biggest emulator task for the PSP? He can quit if he wants… remember that, and if you don’t like it, don’t complain, just shut up!
Thanks Pebbles.
You assholes should just fuck off and stop acting like babies and be happy you mommas bought ya psps for xmas
This emulator is constanstly being updated and I wish the developer the best of luck because I’m sure its quite difficult to work on. At this point this release is purely for testing purposes if you want a nintendo 64 emulator at full speed make one yourself untill then keep up the great work and wow I can’t wait untill I can 64 on the go
i just wanna play zelda on my psp :P best game ever. Keep it up :D
Firstly, THANKS FOR THE CONTINUED WORK ON THIS – I’m pissed off that people are complaining. I’m not ignorant either, for I’m fully aware that this is done for the coder’s benefit and experience as well as our (eventual) delight, so do lay off, because there are a lot of people in here pleased to see gradual modification along the right lines. As somebody said above, if you want your own N64 emulator for the PSP, make it yourself – until then, just sit there, shut up, and admit, like me, that you wouldn’t have a damn clue how to do it.
^Doody
Man! Can’t you guys understand that these unfinished emulators are released for the users to try and make some sugestions and for some programmers to help with the programming? Jesus! What a bunch of assholes!
lol u know u wnt get this 2 run at decent speed, no point wastin time really. good work tho :o)
Hmm it is almost sad to see so many of you assholes criticising this emulator with comments like:
“WHY THE F$%& THEY REALESE UMPLAYABLE EMUS???”
“WTF is the point if the fuckin speed hasnt changed?”
“THIS SHIT IS TO SLOW MOTHERFUCKER”
The only thing this proves is that some people have problems connsidering the “CapsLock” key and the mental brain damage it takes to miss-spell the word “Fuck”. I love this emulator and all progress is great. Thanks alot dude! :D
GOOD JOB! KEEP IT UP!!
Wtf are you guys so ****ing stupid? This shit is FREE. Arrgghh. I honestly swear that all the people that are replying bad about this emu would just die. Does it get you off being so ****ing stupid or are you just naturally that ****ing stupid? Your parents did a really good job at the gene pool. Your PSPs should brick. When you guys are stupid you are so stupid that it embarasses me that a human could be so damn stupid! Oh, I’m sorry, I forgot that only a god damn ****ing noob could say something that dumb.
Great job on the emu. This scene is becoming better and better!
*Correction from my post
Good improvement on the emu.
i would like to play this on the devhook, but i can get to load the firmwares right!?
personally i dont see a differance between r6 and r5, r7 desperatly needs to be souly for speed
once u get the speed going, worry about everything else
Try mario kart, it works great (sort of ;). You could also try turning off an option called triangle something in the settings menu (don’t remember what it was called, sorry)
Good job though. I vote speed releases for R7.
turning off triangle slows it down
The N-64 emulator will NEVER work on psp , think about it !!! It barely works on pc !! and if they cant get the gba emu working how on earth are they goin to get the N-64 ? think about it !!!
some ban the ignorant peoples ips..,..
someone^^
i dont understand y they can get snes emus going full speed and not gba. and this emus pretty bad, half the stuff on screen is pink and anything that moves goes invisible
a real shit : no sound, poor framerate.. sorry
Very nice :)
To bad i still cant play 1080 degrees with it :(
^^ True , So true , a real shit , lol . Just give up on the N-64 emulator, scrap it !! . yer wasteing your time. Bring on the GBA !!!!
I have to post for some of these tards.
For one, the reason they release early version of emus is so that we the public will try it out and discover bugs for the creator to fix. hes only one guy so he rely’s on our help. if they didnt do it this way it would take years to finish. if you REALLY want to play n64 games then use the pc emu project64.
Also, the fucking n64 emulator works 100% on pc you fucking moron. its the fact your computer sucks is why it wont do shit for you.
And with this release of n64 emu, some games run almost perfect….so there gos the “n64 emu wont ever work on psp” theory. of course it will work, its the fact he is programing a complete different system to the new psp hardware that makes it difficult.
And the GBA emu from zx-81 runs some games perfect as well…..sllllooooowwwlly these boys make new versions that sllllooooowwwwlly get to the final stage/s of the emulator mocking diffent consoles on a console that never was built to do so originaly.
So, when we get some idiots saying not to release the emu till its done……well, its obvious they are new to the emu scene….they must of just recently downloaded there precious little snes9x for pc and thought they where hot shit. these boys have been doing shit like this for years and they dont need little 13 year old bastards like you getting in the way. every single emulator out there was pretty much done this same exact way so fucking deal with it you twats. why dont you guys go to college and get a degree in game design, then lets see what YOU can fucking do. fucking noobs.
Sketch
Oh and BTW, the number one reason emus like this WILL work is that the programer alters the emulator in such a way that the MACHINE (n64) changes but the game stays the same. for example, texture resolutions, sound quality etc etc. so if you think that emulators mock the systems they where programed after to the T, 100%, then you are wrong. thats why it is called EMULATION…it emulates another system, not works EXACTLY like the original system did.
GOD people, this is all common since shit, im suprised yall havent put 2 and 2 together instead of making yourselves look like fuckwads worldwide on some website….haha!
Sketch
You idiots its for proof of concept, if he wanted some help, you aren’t going to get anyone interested by not showing anyone anything. And why release stuff to the public, because you want some sort of encoruagement as this stuff is long and probably quite boring. Why do it? because it would be the first portable n64 emulator.
You realise the author doesn’t even read this site, it’s all on here from other sources.
I wouldn’t even begin to understand how this all works, I just apreciate it!!! So to anyone who complains about it not being perfect yet or whatever else, make your own or shut up and enjoy the free work other people are doing for you!
I can say hats off to the coders and designers for this N64 Emulator. But, I too can say its not worth releasing until its at decent speeds. The technicalities involved should only be released between coders and not the people. Cuz these morons dont know the difference between FPS and NES. Honestly just give the people what they want. More speed. Even tho this can never be achieved with the amount of ram given on the PSP unless you run the code straight off of the memory stick with no other processes running. Honestly I love N64 more than any of the other consoles. But does this emulator look good. Yes. Does a lamborghini look good. yes. Does this emulator run good ? No. Does a lamborghini run good ? No. You will waste all ur gas by the time u get out of the driveway. Its the same thing. By the time u load a game u wont wanna play it anymore cuz its so annoying to wait.
Steve-O,
The N64 Emu works flawless on the PC,
Maybe it’s time for you to upgrade….
stupid jon is a dumbass… “The N-64 emulator will NEVER work on psp , think about it !!! It barely works on pc !! and if they cant get the gba emu working how on earth are they goin to get the N-64 ? think about it !!!” -jon. wtf are you i talkin about ignorant peice of shit the n64 emu runs perfectly on pc, hell you can play n64 emu online wiht kaillera so stfu dumbass and it can work if sony can get a PSone emu on psp then im sure the homebrewers can make an n64 emu which runs fine this is just the first step.
oh yea and gba emu works just needs to be faster and its getting there…dumbass talkin bout it doesnt work.
hey man you got the wrong guy ahah i think the guy you was talking about was steve-o….
fuck proof of concept…i already knew it ran like a fuckin year ago n shit…
K people of the earth……..ive recently been put on the internet by my FREIND WHO FILMED ME OVER WEBCAM FOR LIKE 2 HOURS…..so if u see a 2 hour movie on my tube, plz dont watch it…..lol
i dont really care…just I was being a reatard for 2 hours straight and stuff….note this message has nothing to do with this web
Looks amazing. Thanks, and please keep up the good work.
actually for non believers this is possible sony gave us that fact by emulating PS1 but w/ 1 dev give it more time
gj, keep it up. i cant wait for one that works full speed with sound.
This emu is going to be awesome when its done. Thanks for all the hard work. Keep it up :D
Keep up the great work!!!!
To those who fucking complains:
Do you all know how to make a n64 emu for the PSP!?
If not: SHUT THE FUCK UP AND STOP COMPLAINING!
Be patient ffs! Things like that takes time so stop bitching already..
To those who can make one:
Then make a fucking emu youreself then or help those guys out then sit there like a fucking loser complaining like some small kids does! Grow up!!!!!!
About the emu:
Great work guys can’t wait to try it in full speed!
i was playing mario 64 in this emulater, its slow but not THAT slow, i somehow got to get the first star, i like the fact i show my friend this and he flipd, keep up the good work man. you the man. i can also play mario kart 64 and zelda ocorina of time ^.^
i dont think it will ever be playable prove me wrong. im not saying it isnt great work but i think in the end its just going to be waste of time. it will never run games at 15 to 20 fps . just want i think conkers bad fur day at 15 fps star fox never
All u dudes complainin can take a sip out of a cockstraw….u twat sniffers aint gotta download this emu…just leave the post alone beeyatch…great work to this coder and keep it up..we r patiently waiting for the finished product even if it takes 3 years ill b there
i think this is great, the devs did an amazing job since R1. I recently went through all of the versions and its coonstantly improving. Mario 64 is playable, and the c buttons work. All we need for R7 is a bit of touch up:
- 4-5 fps increase
- sound
- better compatability
all in all, i’d say R6 is a sucess, keep up the great work!
–Sam
CAPS LOCK ON: DIDN’T THE AUTHOR RELEASE SOURCE CODE FOR YOU? SO NUBS IF YOU GOT PROBLEM WITH HIS CODING THEN LET US SEE WHAT YOU HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO IT…UNTIL THEN SHHH.. IF YOU NUBS HAVE ANY OTHER PROBLEMS REGARIND WITH ANY OTHER EMULATIONS THEN MOST OF THE SOURCE CODE CAN BE FOUND AT HTTP://WWW.SOURCEFORGE.NET, SO IMPROVE IT IF YOU CAN.
Hey guys. Don’t let the bashers get you worked up. That’s what they want to do. Just ignore them and, like little annoying kids, they’ll eventually vanish.
Great work on the emulator. Just be patient, this emulator will start becoming faster and have sound. The best way I can explain developing software whether it’s games or emulators, it takes time to put theory into code. There’s a lot of trial and error, testing, testing, testing. And for those who don’t understand this, just think of baking a cake. You’re not going to just throw shit in and put it in the oven. You have to mix the right amount of ingredients to form a nice, enjoyable treat.
That’s all I have to say.
Wy dont I have sound?
Can I fix that?
fuck you
Ah, It’s funny how the comments section has become a warzone. For those of you who don’t bash, thanks, you make this a better place. For those of you who do bash, you are the scum of this fucking planet.
- Iron Sam
I wish everyone would STFU . I am sick of trying to get information and having to read all these comments of people bashing and even more I hate reading over and over comments explaining to the bashers why thier wrong and why this and that is needed. You can’t help idiots understand anything so quit trying. I f one person already explained thats thier waste of time DON”T repeat the same shit over and over. I like to see updates I don’t download them though I just like to read about the progress although I will admit it doesn’t seem like much but at least its something.
