Update: Dark_AleX has released v0.4 of his 2.50/2.60 downgrader source code. The download link below has been updated to reflect v0.4.
v0.4 Changes:
* Added Mkdir (This was a CRITICAL error. Thanks for pointing it out)
* Added some more security checks, and a check to see if the psp is connected to AC.
* Moved IoMkdir to a previous functions, since it existed the possibility that the first file wasn’t flashed correctly.
* Removed all display functions. According to my tests with the port of prxdecrypter, using the pspDebugScreen functions in kernel mode in 2.XX can freeze your psp randomly in any time.
* Removed the check for the AC adaptor: it wasn’t working properly. It will be added later again.
* A little add to change the “flash8″ in inputfilelist again to flash0
* Some other minor fixes
* Note: currently if the ioassign fails, there is a brick because the format was done prior to the assignment.
Renown homebrew author, Dark_AleX, released an experimental downgrader yesterday which we refrained from posting at PSP Hacks as it reportedly bricked many PSPs, as per Josh and his bad luck. Today Dark_AleX has released the Downgrader Test v0.2 source code - no binaries, no accidental bricking! This is strictly for the purpose of developers to analyze and advance on for the possibilty of a stable 2.50/2.60 downgrader. Until then, sit tight - don’t try and downgrade your PSP just yet.

The downdater is mostly confirmed not to work. I update a slightly modified source code. It should be relatively more secure. I don’t provide the binaries.
I found two glitches in the code:
1) The restart function… Originally it was intended for a restart, but it did nothing, making possible that if some premature error before doing the real thing failed to continue the real downdate process. Now it will cause an on-purpose exception (this only will happen either at the begginiing before the unsecure code begins or at the end, when all is finished)
2) Now I’ve re-assigned the flash device after the logical format. Probably more secure.

DA, thanks for this but i will sit tight for now with my (soon coming and soon used) new fanjita eloader until we have a more stable one (i might not put my psp to the test as i live in japan and it would be more expensive to get a new psp in japan as apposed to america and since the eboot will do all the 1.5 can do i will be happy to wait and not get a modchip
Ahh finnaly there is light (LyGht) at the end of the dark 2.60 tunnel. I am SO graetfull that Dark_AleX is putting his (or maybe her :S) time into this project. Hade a friend test it for me. He is now the proud owner of a black brick, with an LCD screen an buttons (And belive me he is happy as few xD). But i have faith in this project! Nice work so far! :D:D:D

Gareth, Not true, People who like GTA Will still be in use, I play gta now, But i dont care if there ahs been no downgrader or anything like that, Im not bothered by hacking my psp to peices so it breaks, I just like to make my psp a fun thing for me to use, i couldnt care about hacks etc, just because your opinion on GTA is something you think it is as close to ” special ” then please dont post something retarded like that again, there is no need for it!

Woah, good job on at least making SOME progress. It may not work now, but remember howmany ‘downgraders’ there were for 1.5 and 2.0 before MPH got it working smoothly?
I already got my 1.50, so I’m good, but for all you 2.50/2.60’s out there, I wish you luck on getting a working downgrader. I still get goosebumps every time I mess with firmware. Broken buttons and ports I can fix. Bricked BIOS on the other hand… *shudders*

Its lookin good, I’d say. I think that it won’t be long before, between all of the devs looking at this, that many bugs that caused the bricks will be found, and worked out. I’d say in a week, possibly less (I’m hoping the 4th of July so I have something to do in the car :P) we will have a fairly stable downgrader. I don’t think it will be 100% for another week and a half to two weeks, though.
Fanjita and those guys need to start working on a some type of way they can use the flash program in the 2.7+, and the AAC formatin the music player to some how get a downgrader. But I have a feeiling that the flash will have to do something with another downgrader. Tho this isn’t an actuall downgrader I’m still hearing people claim that it does work. either it does work or they’re pulling our leg. We’ve got a lot of brilliant people out there. Thanks to Fanjita. We just need to think? What can the capabilities of a 2.7 or 2.71 do that could enable us to run homebrew or downgrade?

DARK_ALEX is a peice of $hit, and doent deserve to have any part of PSP Homebrew. My PSP is dead because of him.

People the downgrade will never be 100% safe coz it writes to the psp’s flash memory. so if u realy want kernal homebrew then ull have to take the risk. but wait till its in its final release because it will be a lot safer.
i just want to thank DA for his development in this. I have two psp’s 1 is 1.5 8-) and the other is a 2.5 so i hope this downgrader is going to happen. bc as always, two 1.5 psp’s are better than anything else.

Obviously they would have already been arrested if it were a crime.
It is not like these exploits are floating on the Internet with no authors..
Name 1 exploit for the PSP that has been commonly used by thousands of people that has no author associated with that exploit.
Obviously if there is no author associated with said exploit then they would not be mentioned in the hall of fame. Therefore they would not have anything to worry about.
Further, the people who have already made exploits obviously do not have anything to fear since they have been proudly advertised and shared their exploit with the rest of the PSP community.
Therefore, I deduce that perhaps you should think outside the box before suggesting that someone else think before making a ’stupid’ idea.

I have heard that it has been said before but why isn’t it possible to write our own upgrade, with the same characteristics as 1.0 or 1.5 and characteristics of 2.7 a hybrid if you will. this way we get the best of both worlds. Fuck a downgrader, lets move to the future and start putting out our own upgrades. What do the sony devs know that we don’t? I’m sure not much. I am not familiar with the intricacies of a psp or its code but just a thought from someone who is around patches and releases everyday in IT.
i know they could screw us then forcing THEIR upgrade in order to play new games they put out though, hmmm. I still think it could be done.
