PSPVBA - A Gameboy Advance Emulator!

Posted by greg

Great news, all the Gameboy Advance lovers rejoice! ZX-81 has once again bedazzled us all, this time porting VisualBoyAdvance, a Gameboy Advance emulator, to the PSP!

Few notes from ZX-81…

PSPVBA is a port on PSP of the Linux version 1.7.2 of VisualBoyAdvance with SDL support.

It’s a first beta release, and as we could expect, it doesn’t run full speed!

I’ve done many optimizations to reach the full speed, in particular I’ve translated all the original source code from C++ to pure C language for performance purposes, but that’s not enough…

Nevertheless, all required features for an emulator are already present: sound, “save states”, customizable keys mapping, screenshots, etc…

The sound support is based on the work of psp298, but it is not really good (mainly due to speed).

As per the usual with all ZX-81 releases, you may refer to the included README.txt for installation and usage detail.

Download PSPVBA v1.0.1 - the package includes both binaries for 1.50 and 2.0-2.60, and the ported source code.

Enjoy!

Beautiful emulator! Compatability seems better than previous GBA emus and speed is slightly better as well. I’m very happy to see this is the work of ZX-81, a very capable coder with a history of following up on his projects. I look forward to future releases.

it depends on the rom you are playing for example fire emblem is much faster on the gbapsp but be patient this is a first release and already a top of the line piece of homebrew

Its just the first release , of course it wont run at full speed.. its just to show ppl that a serious coder is working on it and that we can expect a full working version someday.

I still think the N64 emulator is more worth while, because the GBA is already portable. Now when has there been a portable Nintendo 64? The games are better too.
