PSP ISO Compressor Update
greg | June 23, 2006
danny_kay1710 has released an update to the lovely PSP ISO Compressor front-end. As you’ll recall, from the initial release, this user-friendly tool provides a simplified interface for converting standard ISO images to .DAX or .CSO compressed format.
What’s new in v1.1?
- Added support to convert .dax< ->.cso automatically.
- Code cleaned up and reordered.
- Fixed bug where trying to convert an iso image with an extension in capital letters, e.g. GTA.ISO or gta.ISO; the program would not automatically change the extension to the new format, e.g. .dax, meaning that you were trying to overwrite the original ISO with the compressed one, causing the program to crash and a 4KB .iso file to be created.
Like before you will need ‘daxcr.exe’, ‘zlib1.dll’, ‘ciso.exe’ and ‘COMDLG32.OCX’ (all included) in the same directory as the ‘psp iso compresser.exe’ executable.
With that said, fetch PSP ISO Compressor v1.1 here!

would i be able to compress an iso of a game that requires say firmware 2.6 and be able to play it on my dax iso loader?
will this run on 2.01? i hope so, it’s flippin sweet!
Uh, no, this won’t run on 2.01
Because it’s for windows
This is a windows program, it will only run on windows, and it is for running ISO’s using DevHook and DAX (both of which do not run on anything but 1.5)
the first two guys are fcking n00bs. do a search before you post something stupid.
anyways, i like this program. it is good with a nice interface. im gonna be using it from now on. good job
Is this a downgrader?
Love
Kenny
PS NURSE! IT’S TIME FOR MY INJECTION!
right, lets clear things up shall we. this program isnt a fukin downgrader, nor is it any sort of iso loader, it simply converts iso files into dax/ciso or visa versa, stop posting nOOb frickin comments and realise WTF the program actually does.
many thanks, oh and noobs suk,
CHRIS J.
that wasn’t very nice chris!!
well i wouldnt call them nOObs if they werent but the problem is…….they are (unless u disagree) lol
heh,
before anyone else asks, and I’m going to do this in caps so it should be visable when poeple dont bother reading all the caps:
THIS IS A WINDOWS PROGRAM THAT TAKES AN ISO FILE AND MAKES IT INTO A DAX OR CISO FILE.
A DAX/CISO FILE IS A SMALLER ISO SO IT TAKES UP LESS SPACE ON A MEMORY STICK.
YOU WILL NEED 1.5 FIRMWARE TO THEN USE DEVHOOK TO PLAY THEM.
they should start doing ipbans. Most people won’t know how to use proxies.
Awesome, now I can convert my .dax isos to .iso.
yay proxys
SO IF I COMPRESS AN ISO IN WHICH THE REAL GAME REQUIRES FIRMWARE 2.5 OR SOMETHING, WILL I BE ABLE TO PLAY THE COMPRESSED ISO USING DAX ISO LOADER ON A 1.5 PSP EVEN THOUGH THE GAME REQUIRES A HIGHER FIRMWARE!?
depending on the homebrew you use to launch it yes and the settings you use yes you will, but please search the forums for the “how to”
that will give you all the info you need and more.
neo the only problem with proxies is we will get stupid comments from ppl who are using proxies after all how many noobs actually set up their internet access etc
then we will end up with all the proxies blocked – not that it will affect many of us tho lol
Just wondering, what’s the better format generally to use .cso or .dax and why?
Also, are there games that shouldn’t be compressed and left as isos? I’ve heard things like when playing GTA : LCS as a .dax or .cso it lags even more because the memory needs to decompress the files while you’re playing and it’s best to be left as a .iso?
Is this true? Any information would be great.
Yes i would leave gta uncompressed but i havent come across other that lag loads, um i prefer wither is good cso is the best for games that require higher firmware and must be used with devhook and the dax format is good becuase you can play games over usb and must be used with daxziso launcher
I find myself using this program even more. great work. really easy to use.
when it says “compressor”… who much does the file size actually get compressed? iso filesizes are quite big and can only get a few into a 1gig card. Does this program help making filesizes much smaller?
im sorry for the risk of sounding stupid but the firmware does it have to be homebrew or will this work for the crappy sony firmware?
thank you very much
