i think that this will only be for the people who have bricked psp
because soldering is no game ! and specially on the psp cause its really small

bull shit this is so simple. i bought one and put it in within 10 minutes of taking it out of the package. go ahead and wait if you want for the pin version to come out, but seriously this is no big deal.

ok I’m confused. it says you can store the usb connector above the battery but it doesn’t look like it would fit in there. even in the pictures it doesn’t look like it’s that small.

nevermind. I see now that there is a connector on the usb that would allow you to disconnect it from the cable.

really you got it to work? have you figured out how to do all the stuff? (firmwares, homebrew, flashing)

I don’t think it is worth while for firmware 1.5 users.. how ever for those unfortunatly enough to have firmware 2.01 and above i reckon this is well worth it….

Maybe when custom firmwares come out this thing will be worth while.

this things great but… $100 for the modchip… another $100 for them 2 install it not to mention all the shipping fees,etc

or u can get a pre-modded one for $500!

this might be worthwhile if u had a bricked psp instead of buying another u can do this n keep the good stuff

i will buy one soon because i have a 1.5 bricked motherboard i bought off ebay for $12 and if i can unbrick it i can sell it for around $100

well the mod chip looks nice, but hard 2 install. however my dad works on computers, and said he can solder it for me. still this thing cost $100, and really i am happy with my soft mod’s on my psp, so i really dont see a need to buy one, since my psp isnt bricked. even if it was i got a warrant for 2 years fromt he store i brought it from, and yes they stil do have 1.5 to 2.0.

having a 1.5 not worth the trouble to solder would only get one if someone writes a firmware to surport usb harddrives

However its the “cut pcb” trace part that sounds scary.
Not entirley sure what that means but if it involves atually removing a part from the psp it sounds a bit risky….

My UMD Drive is hosed, which means I cant load iso’s from memstick. does anyone know if the modchip will by pass the umd check?

@danny. I also have a PSP-1003 and it as the TA-081 motherboard in it. Also to add this is a new PSP bought yesterday. Hope your’s is the same ;)

all games already work with a loader but outrun so i really so no need for this overpriced modchip

This is a Modchip to run custom firmware. You will need to or have it fitted inside your PSP. The chip looks as if it as 10 solder points aswell

look nice, but those instructions arent very in depth. They are obviuosly just guidlines for experienced modders. Im sure well get great tuts eventaully for solder newbies.

Some ppl seem to be missing the big picture about this modchip.. Yes allmost all games work NOW with a soft mod on a 1.5 of 2.0 psp but a lot, and I mean A LOT of ppl dont have a 1.5 or 2.0 psp! And its just a matter of time newer games start requiring 2.6 or even 2.7 firmware!

Soft mods also SEEM safer because theres no altering in hardware, but homebrew or loaders that mess with the psp’s flash are just as dangerous! You can say bye bye too your warrenty if something goes wrong in a softmod proces aKa bricked psp, fried flash etc etc..

Sure Devhook is a wonderful loader, but loading and running FW from your Mem Stick has its cons too.. one example is the enormous power consumption! (the psp still is a handheld you know ^_^).

Not to even start about coders, for them this is a gift from heaven! No more bricked psp’s etc. And if the install process is too hard for you (recommended not to do it your self). Larger modchip suppliers & stores will most certainly sell pre-installed packages with warranty!!.. SO EBAY COMES IN HANDY TO SELL YOUR 1.5 PSP IF YOU CANT AFFORD A PRE-INSTALLED PSP OR IF YOU JUST DONT WANT 2 PSP’S

So you’ve modded 4 xboxes, did you just use the lpc mod of the old fashioned 29 wire mod?

This is NOT a job for a kid with a Radio Shack iron, you need a needle iron and a steady hand (from the diagrams the traces are VERY close together).

For a idea on the complexity of this mod chip install look at some of the ps2 forums and look at the mod installs there, ps2 mods get crazy with wire length requirements and wire routing.

My best guess at removing part of the pcb for those bunched up lines is because thats where the mod chip will control boot up. If you look at it theirs a wire going on each side of the line. The modchip probably routes the power to the flash and when you want to boot on to the modchip’s flash it will stop current flow to the psp built in flash and start the modchip’s flash. All other lines just look like power, ground, and I/O lines. Not to hard if you know waht your doing.

anyone with a 1.5 there will be no need for this mod whatever custom firmwares come out we will be able to run through devhook, so it would use more power but i would rather spend 20 pound on an extra bat than whatever this thing is going to cost

can u send your psp in to them so they can install it?

i don’t get how to use this…do i put it in PSP/GAMES? or do i have to make its own file like this PSP/GAMES/MODCHIP, if not im guessing i put it into the flash stick root directory of the psp mod folder, any suggestions?

Would I be able to unbrick a psp with this?

For a guy with a name like “Sir_hacks_alot” you should know what a modchip is! It needs to be fitted/soldered inside your PSP. And @ madman yes it does specify it will unbrick a bricked PSP :)

Close! I got mine as a 2.70, and I didn’t have writing on the chip you see in the UMD drive!

Does seem a bit risky…even if you have soldered before…. You must be very careful as to not OVERHEAT the circuit board with the soldering gun…or you can be sure to do unrepairable damage..

Overheating when soldering quite possibly will loosen or create “cold solder joints” at other points on the board…rendering it useless…

Even though you may be adept at soldering, you still
have to scrape off the solder mask at various points on the circuit board to make the connections…

AT 16 POINTS ON THE CIRCUIT BOARD…. anyone out there who hasn’t soldered before…or drinks too much caffeine…I wouldn’t recommend it…

They need to reduce their prices else copy chip makers will just get a hold of their chip and make one and sell it for less.
