Possibly not a final build of pMEnc v0.4 yet - this is actually a pre-release; modsyn has left behind a few comments indicating why:
Here’s a likely working release of version 0.4 for pMEnc. I’m calling it a pre-release because there’s a lot of features added and certainly somewhere in there I made a mistake. But I’ve tested to the best of my abilities, and I can’t find any more bugs. The public always find them best!
And indeed they do - so fetch a copy below and provide your feedback!
What’s new in v0.4:
DRAG ‘N DROP
- Drop file onto pMEnc.exe and encoding will start. Unless you’ve changed to settings beforehand the encoded video will use defaults.
- Drop file onto the open window when pMEnc is running. This will save the file as a job using the settings you currently have set. Just drag as many on as you want then hit start.
Batch Mode
- I have created a batch file format for quickly and easily encoding a large number of similar videos in one setting. Check the example file titled ‘batch_example.xml’ for a simple case of its use. For now, the support is a bit limited. It uses the default settings, so make sure you set them before encoding a batch. Included is a program ‘batcher.exe’ that will help to create the batch files if you’ve never worked with XML/HTML before. Just drag the folder containing your videos onto the batcher program and it will create a file named batch.xml in the pMEnc folder. Then, drag the XML file over to pMEnc.exe and the encoding will begin.
- **NOTES ON DROPPING MULTIPLE FILES/BATCH MODE**
When encoding with a batch file or dropping multiple files into the window, make sure that each video is of the same width/height. Only the first video is used for scaling and crop detection. I made this decision to cut loading time. If you want to encode multiple videos that have different sizes you should set each one up individually.
Target resolution added
- In previous versions it was assumed that all encodings would be done for the PSP, so the target resolution was hard-coded at 480×272. Now you can set it for whatever you’d like. If you want to keep the original aspect ratio then you can leave off the height and pMEnc will figure out what height to use. Default is still 480×272 if you don’t care to adjust.
PMPMod 2 Support
- The pmp muxer used produces files that play with version 2 of PMPMod. If you want to go back to version 1, you just need to replace the pmp_muxer.exe file located in the include folder of the installation.
Huh, what? Well pMEnc is an encoder aimed at creating PMPMod/PSPlayerMT compliant video files. That simple!
