MAMEPSP Beta v0.01

greg | May 15, 2006

A new Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator (MAME) has surfaced from MikeDX over at dcemu. MAME is able to emulate a tremendous amount of old arcade classics, and this port damn near runs ‘em all perfect. Check out the included MAMEPSP.TXT for known rom compatibility.

Simply place your roms in: /PSP/GAME/MAMEPSP and use the following keys to get started:

select – credit
start – 1p start
X, O etc – player buttons
L – in game menu (and menu in frontend)
R – pause/unpause
D-PAD – joystick controls
L+R (in game) – QUIT to menu

Leave your feedback here for MikeDX.

Those are great news.
I hope the framerate is stable enough.
In addition, multiplayer games through adhoc would be great.

I too am struggling with this. There is a list of roms but none work as roms aren’t present. If I put roms where the readme says ( x/psp/game/mamepsp ) they don’t appear in the list. neither do they appear if I create a rom folder inside the mamepsp folder. I downloaded the ghosts and goblins rom and put it in my created roms folder inside mamepsp, the game loaded but ran like a complete dog. The games on the list are supposed to run perfectly but this didn’t.

ok, games definately have to be in a roms folder inside mamepsp, just tried galaxian, in mamepsp folder game wasn’t found, in roms mamepsp/roms it was. Still don’t know how to get a game to appear on the list though.

So, all this is, is an OPTIMIZED selection of MAME games, with NO option to select anything thats not on the pre-encoded list. And the author doesn’t even explain where to place the roms!!! Why won’t somebody make a MAME emulator that allows you to boot ANYTHING that you have in your roms folder??!!

You’re right 13. You can ONLY download the roms that are on the list.(FOR NOW) I still have to try the games on the list but i’m pretty sure they’ll work fine. Just wait for the update to play the other roms like Marvel vs. Capcom. Here’s the link for the roms: http://www.romnation.net/srv/roms/mame.html

Ms PacMAn runs perfectly….to run your roms…make a roms folder in the PSPMAME folder and place your roms in there. If you need more help register for the forums and post in the help section

make sure when you make your rom folder you add the name of the rom you’re adding. For instance if you’re going to download Mat Mania, make sure you type in matmania in your rom folder and add the rom to that.

Yeah, this is fucking leet, but you need psx or some shit like that. Maybe a image mounting software, but dont make the games too big XD

#20 i think that only the roms in the list are supported at the moment, perhaps there is a way to add to the list, but i’m unsure

Ghouls and ghosts?, don’t you mean ghosts amd goblins? I’m not trying to be funny m8 just want to know how you got a game running that isn’t on the inbuilt list or was that just a slip of the keyboard?

I still don’t understand why the MAME emu’s have pre-determined lists of games on them….I have a gaggle of MAME roms, but none of them work with ANY of the MAME emu softs on PSP…likely because the people who made the emu’s have ever so slightly different versions of the romfiles…

#27… I have the same problem with some Roms in general. I Built my arcade cabinet with MAME version 0.86 and all the roms worked with that version. I upgraded to MAME v 1.03 and many of the games didn’t work. The reason is that MAME devs find new files that should have been included in the ROM zip file so newer version won’t accept incomplete (older) ROM sets. It looks as if PSPMame is built from MAME v. 0.97 so your roms should be compatible with that version. Test on local PC first. Sorry so long…

this thing is a fucking piece of shit and this guy needs to learn how to fucking explain his directions correctly, and fucking populate the list so your able to load it from a root directory. Shouldnt have to fucking play pin the tale on the donkey just to get this thing to work. Instead of playing n64 or other stone age video game consoles just spend the few bucks and buy the damn system itsel. Like its really all that cool to walk around saying how cool you are because you have a emulator that plays n65 games on your PSP.

#31) Quit complaining, why waste money buying other consoles when the PSP itself cost so much. We get our money’s worth, when these people, who are using their free time bring some worthwhile programs for our PSP’s, which make our PSP’s worth the cost. I thank all the efforts programmers are doing to bring more enjoyable programs for the PSP. Please keep up the good work, any reported progress is good news. It means PSP is not dead.

The fact that the frontpage says “SUPPORTS A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF ROMS” is LAUGHABLE. This thing doesn’t even support 10% of everything that a real version of MAME can handle.

to all the haters: if you dont like the release why even look at it in the 1st place stfu!

to all the n00bz: if you cant get you roms to work learn to use CLRMAME and use the the corresponding dat to build a working set.

to all the dreamerz: cps2 games such as “marvel vs capcom” are not a reality in any mame psp port dont bother wastin your time asking about this

REALITY CHECK PPL
accept the release for what it is, its a beta (and a damn fine one too i might add) dont expect the world from it otherwise code your own super emu

thank you
