DGEN Released!

greg | May 13, 2006

Our old pal Syn-z has updated the DGEN emulator. This is one of the most widely used Sega Master System/Genesis emulators on the homebrew scene. There have been various updates over the months and each new release is more impressive than the last. There has been WIFI added for multiplayer games and various minor updates. Here is what Syn-z has put in the change log :

- Shadow/Highlight mode support
- Added 6-button mode ON/OFF in Key Config
- Added “Palette Mode” in [CONFIG]
- Added “Fix Checksum” in [CONFIG]
- Press Analog Up + X to reset the current game
- Fixed some issues in some games

So there you have it. The newest DGEN release. It has not been tested with eLoader or 2.01+. It’s only confirmed with 1.5

2.7 is homebrewLESS

I just tried with 2.6 – I’m no genius when it comes to homebrew, but I couldn’t get it to run using the GTA eLoader. When you select the DGEN program, screen goes black for a second then goes back to the eLoader menu screen.

Try this for 2.6 users:

Load a stable Emulator or program first (like the gba emu is what I load first) now open up Dgen. Then load up a sega rom before changing options or it will crash again.

Try it folks, not gaarenteeing this will work for everyone though.

does it work on 2.70

#7, I tried, didn’t work for me – but I appreciate the explanation as its something I wouldn’t have thought of.

#8, Read previous comments before asking questions – you’ll often find your answer there, and in regards to working on 2.70, Comment #5 plainly states there is NO homebrew on 2.7 – NONE WHATSOEVER – and its doubtful that there will be any time soon.

ok here’s what i’ve concluded for us 2.6 users:

head over to http://syn-k.sakura.ne.jp/dgen_psp/ and download the Ver 1.30 (make sure it isnt the 1.5 firmware version) and use the Method I stated in post #7 it works great for me.

Nothing works on 2.7, and if you’re at 2.0 or up, just fucking try it yourself instead of asking stupid questions

The dude with a 1.50 that can’t load it, just sell your psp, you don’t deserve it

You do NOT have to load up another emulator to get this to work. Version 1.30 is the last working version on 2.01-2.60 psp’s. If some of ya actually read the forums, you would see this. Check the help section in the forums for more details, and READ THE STICKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a really nice Genesis emu…the one I’ve been using for the past year had great speed and emulation, but NO save states and none of the screen size options that this one has. This appears to be the last Genesis emu I’ll ever need! (unless they make one with infrastructure multiplayer!)

And, for those of you having issues with booting it on a 1.5 PSP….I’m running it on an original 1.5 with NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER.

This is magic.

Someone asked why people bother about these emulators, when there are up to date PSP games.

OK, it is getting a bit better with PSP releases now but up until recently there has been not much worth bothering with in terms of official releases.

But with emulation you have got a proven back catalogue of good stuff to play. Also, people are nostalgic and like to re-live stuff from years ago.

Love

Kenny
