DGEN Released!
greg | May 13, 2006
Our old pal Syn-z has updated the DGEN emulator. This is one of the most widely used Sega Master System/Genesis emulators on the homebrew scene. There have been various updates over the months and each new release is more impressive than the last. There has been WIFI added for multiplayer games and various minor updates. Here is what Syn-z has put in the change log :
- Shadow/Highlight mode support
- Added 6-button mode ON/OFF in Key Config
- Added “Palette Mode” in [CONFIG]
- Added “Fix Checksum” in [CONFIG]
- Press Analog Up + X to reset the current game
- Fixed some issues in some games
So there you have it. The newest DGEN release. It has not been tested with eLoader or 2.01+. It’s only confirmed with 1.5

Looks like nobody will get to post “1st Comment!!”
2.6?
I would try 4 u, but this comp uses dial-up. it would take to long to download.
did any one try on 2.7
2.7 is homebrewLESS
I just tried with 2.6 – I’m no genius when it comes to homebrew, but I couldn’t get it to run using the GTA eLoader. When you select the DGEN program, screen goes black for a second then goes back to the eLoader menu screen.
Try this for 2.6 users:
Load a stable Emulator or program first (like the gba emu is what I load first) now open up Dgen. Then load up a sega rom before changing options or it will crash again.
Try it folks, not gaarenteeing this will work for everyone though.
does it work on 2.70
#7, I tried, didn’t work for me – but I appreciate the explanation as its something I wouldn’t have thought of.
#8, Read previous comments before asking questions – you’ll often find your answer there, and in regards to working on 2.70, Comment #5 plainly states there is NO homebrew on 2.7 – NONE WHATSOEVER – and its doubtful that there will be any time soon.
My PSP is 1.50 and i’m getting a error number: 80020130
I dont know what it means. Can please someone tell me how i can get it working?
PS: I dont have the GTA UMD, but i can run the SNES9xTYL and PSP Genesis0.18c ( of beldar’s pack) running directly…
I wuv the genesis!
#12 what was the point of that?
#9 yeh I get an error now(it says “Found suspicious hard path at 08A53F98″), the method I explained works for the Dgen 1.20 but nothing newer for some reason. i’ll keep expreimenting and post again later
ok here’s what i’ve concluded for us 2.6 users:
head over to http://syn-k.sakura.ne.jp/dgen_psp/ and download the Ver 1.30 (make sure it isnt the 1.5 firmware version) and use the Method I stated in post #7 it works great for me.
Error :80020130 with PSP 1.50
Do Anyone knows how i load the emu with 150 firmware?
I’m trying load it directly.
Help plzz!!!
Same here, I’ve got a 1.5 and the psp’s giving me the “cannot start game” error. Anyone with a 1.5 got this emulator working?
Ownage.
amazing, i was actually about to go on a forum and ask about a newer emulator.
works great to.
#15 the only thing i did was get rid of the “________________________________” in the DGEN and DGEN1% folder. Also make sure u have them in the *:/PSP/GAMES
*:/PSP/GAME Sorry.
Nothing works on 2.7, and if you’re at 2.0 or up, just fucking try it yourself instead of asking stupid questions
The dude with a 1.50 that can’t load it, just sell your psp, you don’t deserve it
You do NOT have to load up another emulator to get this to work. Version 1.30 is the last working version on 2.01-2.60 psp’s. If some of ya actually read the forums, you would see this. Check the help section in the forums for more details, and READ THE STICKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok u guys why da hell d u wana play old sega gamez wen u can ply much beta psp games
#22 its all bout the old school shit..and by the ways i bet you hav 2.6 or 2.7 you nub..haha
finally the old dgen sucked you couldnt even play anything
this one is way better it can actually play sonic now
This is a really nice Genesis emu…the one I’ve been using for the past year had great speed and emulation, but NO save states and none of the screen size options that this one has. This appears to be the last Genesis emu I’ll ever need! (unless they make one with infrastructure multiplayer!)
And, for those of you having issues with booting it on a 1.5 PSP….I’m running it on an original 1.5 with NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER.
This is magic.
Someone asked why people bother about these emulators, when there are up to date PSP games.
OK, it is getting a bit better with PSP releases now but up until recently there has been not much worth bothering with in terms of official releases.
But with emulation you have got a proven back catalogue of good stuff to play. Also, people are nostalgic and like to re-live stuff from years ago.
Love
Kenny
