Japanese Javascript Flashcards!
greg | April 18, 2006
Phil has sent us an update to his Japanese Flashcard system which aids in the learning of Kana – it also contains a few elementary Kanji lessons.
Here’s what he had to say about this update:
Here’s a newer version of the kana reviewer. Now it has a “score” that it gives you for how proficient it thinks you are. Each flashcard has a certain percentage and the longer you can go without answering an individual flashcard incorrectly, the more of that percentage you get.
At first it offers feedback for setting small proficiency goals. And once you get close to 100%, it’s a way to tell when you’ve made it through every card in the deck successfully.
The Kana review allows for Hiragana, Katakana and mixed quizes as well a review mode that just shows you the answers as you scroll through the syllabary. When you answer incorrectly, it increases the frequency that you’ll see that card, and when you get one right, it decreases the frequency.
To get started simply put these files on your memory stick and open the PSP web browser pointing it to the correct location.
Download: Japanese Flashcard Learning Tool
This tool will definitely serve useful for those who wish to learn the language – it’s based on Javascript so the PSP is not necessarily required but it is formatted to fit the screen nicely, and lets not fail to mention portable! Enjoy!
And great work Phil!

my life is fucking complete.
*1 thats the best comment in the number one position I have ever seen!! LOL
anyways this seems purty cool but is there a way to get it to work right on 1.5? hehe
3 yeah n it ok i think
does it work on ver.2.6? cause this would be cool, plus also does it teach Japanese, or just see if you know it?
where do u go on the browser?
any word on if this works for 1.5. If it does, how to do so would also be helpful.
How do I make the browser go to a file on the memory stick?
Just unzip the archive .. that’ll give you a “japanese” folder. Then put it on your memory stick and point the browser to file:/japanese/index.html And its good for learning and practicing kana .. I need to put some more work into the kanji reviewer, though .. coming soon =)
Dude that is INCREDIBLY useful. I study Japanese, but being an english born speaker I find learning the kanji REALLY difficult.
There are a few errors i’ve spotted but they’re only in terms of the english phonetics (example for the kanji “shita/below” you’ve written the english “hita”). If I spot any more, I could write them down and email them to you if you provide me with an address.
My email adress is in the html source (just open up index.html in a text editor) .. thanks, I appreciate the help
Hey, how many kanji have you put in there?
Awesome, work takes me to Nihon koku quite a bit, and learnt to speak the language a few years ago (self taught) but still have trouble reading basic kanji, very helpful, thanks.
yayayya the one thing ive been waiting fooor my whole life!
great stuff.
how about a button to go back to last word.
