TeamOverload, along with Freeplay and Skylark, have released a cool little PSP mod allowing you to customize fonts used in the PSP menu interface.
Best of all - it works on all current firmware versions [1.00 - 2.60]!
Additional requirements:
- 4MB free on your memory stick
- FileAssistant v0.04
- eLoader (firmware version 2.0+)
- GTA:LCS (firmware version 2.01+)
- a Hex Editor
Below are the instructions quoted from ‘fontsonms.txt‘: (supplied in the download package below)
- Boot up FileAssistant 0.4
- Go to disk, and change one side over to PSP Bios 1. Press O on registry to get to the registry.
- Select Copy, and copy both the system.dreg, and system.ireg files.
- Change to The PSP Bios 0. Select copy, and copy the whole font folder.
- Exit FileAssistant, and go into USB mode.
- Open up the system.dreg file in a hex editor. Change flash0:/font to ms0:/fontmod.
- Save the file.
- Copy BOTH the system.dreg and system.ireg into the location where you have the parser, such as C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\Parse for easy access.
- Boot up command prompt (Start -> Run -> ‘cmd’), and type ‘cd parse’ to go to the directory. After that type ‘fixupdreg2′ and it should repair your reg file.
- Copy the system.dreg and system.ireg back to your PSP.
- Boot up FileAssistant again.
- On one side go to PSP Bios 1 and then go to Registry.
- Find where you put your system.dreg and system.ireg and copy them both over to the registry.
- Exit FileAssistant and enjoy!
Download Font Customization Pack - includes custom italicized font from TeamOverload.
Don’t feel overwhelmed - it’s quite easy to accomplish; however, if you’re unsure about things we recommend NOT attempting this. Otherwise - as a safe alternative - you can use the MPH Firmware Launcher to emulate the firmware without actually writing anything back to the flash.

Heh, it’s safe if you know what you’re doing, if not, well, you may be screwed. I actually created a folder on my flash1 where i store some ’secret’ information i don’t want people to see, yet i want to have access to. Gotta love File Assist.
Anyways, nice job Team overload.
Also, it’s always wise to make a back up copy of any and all files you that edit. That way, if you do make a “boo-boo” (which can be devastating in hex files), you always have your original.
Oh, and question: Does anyone know the sizes of flash0 and flash1?

I’d liked to change the font but I don’t want to risk the psp , I’m not rich and for me losing 250 dollars is so sad. But iw ould be very nice to change the font , really great app.
umm you have to be stupid to brick your psp and i think your lieing
and no one is risking $250 if you know what your doing. i don’t recommend any one doing this if they haven’t ever “hacked” into their psp and are n00bs and i don’t know y everyone is so skared “i don’t want to risk it” everybody has to take chances in life so what the hell :-) so if you fuck up your psp don’t go and cry just take the responsibility or just kicked back with a “stock” psp which hasn’t been hacked well us other ppl are taking advatages of the great work of hackers

#20 You sir are an idiot. At some point you must have been new to hacking your psp, noone just knows things you know. You have to learn from somewhere.
To be honest though it doesnt seem worthwhile. Its great but I’m not going to use a different font, it seems like too much work for something so useless. Its really only cosmetic, and unless you know how to write your own fonts its not unique.

For all those who are scared of bricking your “love” (psp), just buy your next one from Wal-Mart and take it back when ever you want!! I took 4 of my psp’s back, one bricked! No questions asked. They’ll take anything back!

@poeple saying they brick their PSPs, it’s impossible, all you’re doing is editing the psp BIOS 1 which is recoverable. If any files, or corrupt data is missing from BIOS 1, upon restart of your psp BIOS 0 will on its own replace the missing or corrupt files. So it’s mostly fool proof.
Plus BIOS 0 isent editable in 2.00 and above, and if for some reason you deleted files on BIOS 0 and have a 1.5 psp, you sir are screwed…

becuase File assit only allows you to read psp BIOS 0 in 2.00+
The only why to brick your psp is deleting psp BIOS 0 files through a 1.50 psp.

the font is kinda cool, but the best part is that it only takes a few seconds to change it back. just go to bios0 and copy the font folder to the root of yourr stick, and then make a copy of the fontmod folder, and rename whichever one you prefer to “fontmod”

fixupdreg2 doesnt do anything in Comand Prompt (yes i had the folder with the two system files in them open).
i was # 38 and i got it to work with some help from freeplay !!!! thnks alote guys n girls ;) lol it’s all about the palls that help

I tried this and failed. It didnt brick my psp, all it did when i started up my psp is change back to default settings, which isnt a big deal.

Man that was fricken easy. I have 2.6 bios and it worked flawlessly. Was an easy 1,2,3 thing and definatly welcomed the new font change.

psp start, but on the start in error press 0 to default setting and restor, but not restoring and not any screen any thing
