Breakout PSP v0.1

greg | March 10, 2006

Andorien has released his first Sony PSP homebrew game, Breakout PSP v0.1 - an adaptation of the classic game Breakout, written in C++.

PSP Breakout

Rules are simple: move the d-pad or analog stick left/right to control the paddle - bounce the ball and destroy all the blocks in order to advance to the next level.

There are a few known issues which I’ve quoted from Andorien:

Currently, due to the way that the paddle is responding to collision (only changing the y axis velocity), it’s possible to trap the puck within the paddle. It’s not a huge issue, just know that if that happens, the puck will bounce up and down really fast, and if it’s released out of one of the sides, it might as well be random which Y direction it will go.

Also, it seems that if you keep playing over and over (reloading the level again and again), the game will eventually freeze. You can hit the home button and attempt to go back to the menu, but at that point the system will crash. I think I’m getting a buffer overflow, since each time the level loads, it must reload all of the images. However, I don’t know how to clear the buffer, so if anyone could point me in the right direction, I’d very much appreciate it.

I personally have not tested this on 2.0+ yet; please feel free to do so and leave your comments below.

It works on 2.0 with Biere d’ Alsace, although it doesn’t have much playing time. You don’t even have a score table.

I’ve been waiting for this game to come out for psp homebrew :D. cant wait to try it out, from the pic it doesn’t look to great but through time hopefully with updates it will be improved to be as good as the old school Breakout games :)

This homebrew works on 2.6 with gta Bière d’Alsace. Just put the 1.5 folder in the E:/psp/game folder and load up the file. Worked fine for me!!!!

This game should be reworked to be a PSP version of ” DX-BALL” PC game. DX-BALL is a very badass example/idea to add to this game!

good game. i like retro games on my psp, as long as they don’t take up too much mem space. (saving up for 2 gig chip)
