PSP iTunes Remote
greg | January 2, 2006

Utilizing the PSP’s web browser (or Wipeout’s), k7m has released a custom web server and a set of PHP/HTML scripts allowing you to control iTunes remotely with your PSP!
Below is the general installation steps:
1) You must first install a webserver on your PC. k7m has written one specifically for iTunesRemote. To install it, simpley unzip the file and start iTunesRemote.exe. The webserver is listening on port 81, so you only have to browse to
http://[Local Address Here]:81/iTunesRemote.php.
2) Open iTunesRemote.php in Notepad. change the variable $pathToHTTPDir to the directory that iTunesRemote.php is in (my file has a different location in it, so be wary). Remember that in PHP, all symbols must be preceded by a \, which is why one should separate directories with “\\” in this instance (you’ll get an error otherwise).
3) Make sure iTunes is open and has a song in the ticker bar (you shouldn’t see the apple)
4) Navigate your PSP or Wipeout Browser to http://[LocalHost Here]/psp/iTunesRemote.php (or whatever file structure you placed inside of the htdocs folder)
5) Enjoy your iTunes Remote Control. it makes you a lot less dorky searching through your music library with a sleek PSP than with your computer, so be sure to use this to your advantage.
The design is fully customizable, just edit the psp/template.html file. the %variablenames% variables will be replaced by their current value at runtime. More features will be added soon …
Included in the rar archive:
- iTunes Remote
- iTunes Stand Alone Web Server
- iTunes Remote Damae Skin

Nice!
Who cares?
big wup, it aint like we can download songs into it and connect out ipod to it, its the same music in ur own list
^^^ ya but we could add it to our rss. but i’m not gonna go through all the trouble. my 4gig hd holds all the music i have. with 2 gigs left.
nah… if you have a good sound system on your pc you can have a remote for iTunes anywhere to change your songs and stuff. It’s a cool feature!
how do i get my localhost? how do i get my local address?
wow nice i wonder if u can somehow like get it to control ur desktop i know u can but not with a 2.5 psp
damn, #4 you only have 2gb of music? that’s insane.
uhh links not working…
Now it is!
Yeah this is a nice hack. While i don’t use itunes i will now :)
people always say “who cares?” its no about who cares, people want to make programs for them selvs with features that they want so they might as well releise it to the public.
next time you go to wrgight “who cares? “so” or “wats the point in this” dont bother becaues it will put people off coding, and will kill of the whole psp haking thingy.
if you dont like what you see why bother clicking and leaving a comment,
i however think this is a great tool and will be using it myself :D
i have 30 gigs of music:D:D:D
#13 , give this guy a medal……….whooooooopty dooooo he has 30 gig of music.
i have 3 gigs of porn on my hd
Has anyone successfully done this yet? I don’t have my own wireless network, so its proving difficut. I also generally suck at this kind of thing: i put the address into the psp web browser as ‘http://myip:81 C:\PSP\PSP\iTunesRemote.php’. Assuming that is the correct location, and that i editted the php file accordingly, should it all work swimmingly? Or do i need to use some extra symbols, or / instead of \ for the location? Any help would be appreciated, sorry about the length.
if my directory is C:\itunesremote\PSP
1) what do i put in the php file??
2) what exactly do i enter in my web browser to get it to work?? 3) should the .exe web server file be in the same folder as the .php file?? or does it not matter?
3 gigs of porn, Thats nothing :D
i got my psp to go to itunes remote but there is code all over the place in the background???
whats the deal?
as far as i’m concerned this does not work
whats the “stand alone browser”? Can some1 explain? Is it a new bowser?
standalone browsers are the browsers for 1.0/5 that are ripped from a game. they STAND ALONE [from the rest of the game]
Goliath553 - i have the same problem as you. What version of iTunes are you running, as in the .php it mentions an error with the msg as ‘couldn’t query iTunes COM Interface. Either you didn’t install iTunes 5.0 or your web server doesn’t..’. I realises this isnt the sam problem, but hey it might have the same solution. gonna go get me some 5.0. I’ll let you know if it works.
do ne of u no how 2 play smash bros on 1.5?
#19 - I get the same problem - Parts of the remote are shown, but there is code all over the place and the buttons dont work. Any ideas anyone? :S
Just a guess here (i know nothing about whatever language this is coded in, php i guess) but if the codes on the screen, that means its being displayed as text rather than being used as code; html does the same if you forget a tag or whatever. So this means that there is something missing, or extra, in the php file that needs to be changed. The code on my screen starts at ‘PreviousTrack ();…’ so i’d guess that the problem lies with the code that preceeds it. Any php coders out there that feel like troubleshooting
What we need now is someone to write some remote control software so the psp can be used to control anything via infra red :)
Well i’ll be dammed, there is a IR port. Pays to read the manual i guess, woops.
is almost the same like diz http://psp.gotdns.com/psp/
hmm….nope dont care >.>
i keep getting the message (listening for incoming connections on port 81) or something and it wont go away so im stuck there
This is superb. I can now control my music through out the house.
Nice job, well done
#32 how exactly did you get it to work? Did you ever get the code showing on the screen like some of us have above. zoziox at gmail dot com if your feeling generous
Oh and #31: that message is correct, its just waiting for something to connect.
There is a new version…pspupdates.com has it
HOW TO GET IT WORKING:
1 DOWNLOAD ITUNES_REMOTE.RAR
2 UNZIP ITUNESREMOTESTANDALONE.ZIP IN WHATEVER YOU LIKE. I USED C:\
3 GO TO YOUR PSP BROWSER
4 USE: http://Local Address Here]:81/iTunesRemote.php

i read your comment azn but when i download the rar file there is nothing it just askes me to use the internet to find the subject but then i opened it on notepad and it was just a bunch of codes or something like that there are no zip files or anything like that can u please help?!?!?!
AZN: You left out the part where you editted the php, just wondering what exactly you changed? Also, what version of iTunes are you running?
I only did what i said above. Didn’t edited any files=)
hmmm..
HOW TO GET IT WORKING v2:
1 DOWNLOAD ITUNES_REMOTE.RAR
2 UNZIP ITUNESREMOTESTANDALONE.ZIP IN WHATEVER YOU LIKE. I USED C:\
3 GO TO YOUR PSP BROWSER
!!!4 RUN ITUNESREMOTE.EXE
5 USE: http://Local Address Here]:81/iTunesRemote.php
This worked with mine psp=)
#39 I dont get your problem. I just downloaded it again, and it works. Just do as i said in post 42. That’s how i got it working.
it turns out that although there is no itunesremote.php file in the psp folder, the standalone server has it embedded in the .exe, and so all you do is extract and start the standalone server. that’s it.
works great, now only if it was ajax based so it updated automatically….
To FUCKING complicated!
#39: Do you have WINRAR installed, sounds like you don’t…
Wow i like the hack it feels like an ipod that has games and vidoe now i can show this off to my friends
can u do me a favor azn can u email me the program fixed cuz i still do not get, i probably am seing something different than u so can u please send me the file fixed and edited so i can use it thanks so much :)

are we able to listen to the music from our computers wirelessly on the PSP?
this worked just fine for me i love it. i was wonder if you can make it so you can hear it through the PSP though
dude until someone can actually help me with this im never gonna get it done so if someone can detail this really well it would b cool thanks
Weird, I can reach the page from my browser, but not from my PSP. I can reach other websites fine through my PSP. Anyone know what I’m doing wrong?
For those of you who can’t reach the page, you don’t enter the whole path to itunesremote.php, just enter http://Local Address Here]:81/iTunesRemote.php like those guys said.
Could it be something I disabled at Run -> services.msc?
Ok.. for all those who still can’t get it working:
Download the file from here:
>> http://s53.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1S6JOGJ4GO9WN1LVRGNZ4QSRZV run>cmd) and type ipconfig and press enter.
Hmmm.. my post #57 got screwed
One more time:
1) download the file
2) Unzip the file in a dir
3) run itunesremote.exe
4) run itunes
5) go to your psp browser
6) use http://:80/itunesremote.php
for is ip adress from your pc where itunes is running.
Dont forget to enable sharing in itunes
This is a bit hard to get working but when its running its gotta be one of the best things for 2.++ PSP’s ever! Now we just need to be able to hear the music on our PSP’s!!
Well done best thing ever im just in shock!
I still can’t access the URL from my PSP (only from my PC) :(
yo azn thanx i got it to work finnally and to all those who can’t do not put c:/____ watever jus put http://urip:81/itunesremote.php and it works perfectly

Also, all u people who are dissing this suck, this is really cool, there now a windowsmedia remote out now from him, this site will probablly find out from sumwhere in like a week to get the files but yah! this thing is cool, u can sit on ur bed lay down and listen to music without haveing to get up and change song! well i like it, and its fun to play with, and its fully changeable which is cool to change things around! but yah
what do u actually do in details to get the psp as a remote. i got the itunes remote and itunes and im at the part where it says listening for incoming connnections on port 81 please tell me what to do from there in specific detail please thank u so much :)
wtf…where are all my posts…fuck
#63 You dont do anything special with your psp;) The itunesremote.exe file makes from your pc a “webserver”. So basicly your pc hosts a site that can control itunes which you can view with your PSP browser. Just remember to run your itunes on your pc and have a browser on your psp.
Then go to your browersen and use the link i gave.
azn, the link you gave was http://Local Address Here]:81/iTunesRemote.php and it says communication error can u tell me what exactly to put. no examples just exactly what u entered in ur psp browser. thanks :)
i used http://192.168.11.9:81/itunesremote.php in my psp browser. This is the ip from my pc. Btw, did you check your firewall?
what do i need to do with my firewall
and how do i check my ip address
2) Open iTunesRemote.php in Notepad. change the variable $pathToHTTPDir to the directory that iTunesRemote.php is in (my file has a different location in it, so be wary). Remember that in PHP, all symbols must be preceded by a \, which is why one should separate directories with “\\” in this instance (you’ll get an error otherwise).
i don tknow ow 2 put it on my psp how do u do it?

WFG Bård (say Board, like snowboard etc.)
I type ipconfig and it doesn’t do anything!
i can’t get my local address, Please Help!
nm_ i didn’t type cmd….ooops
i got it to work but it won’t go into my library or any of my playlists. how can i make it do that?
Wow. If it was a little more simple I’d try it.
This tutorial is quite advanced, requiring quite a lot of networking knowledge to understand what you’re doing. By the way - to acquire your internal IP address in Windows:
Click ‘Start’
Then ‘Run’
Type: “cmd”
Then in the resulting window that appears, type: “ipconfig”
And then hit the [Enter] button on your keyboard.
Your internal IP address will be listed in the resulting output.
