Organize Your Homebrew!

Posted by greg

modsyn has written something new for 1.50 homebrew users. With this new handy script titled Ogranise (yes, that’s the spelling), you’re able to easily sort your homebrew icons under the GAME menu without the use of a PC - it’s done directly on the PSP - handy for when you’re on the go!

Organize your PSP Homebrew on your PSP!

How to use:

Hold down the X button and use up and down either on the analog stick or the d-pad to sort the list of homebrew the way you like it. Once you’ve got the order you want, hit start. Confirm that you do want to save and it’ll do its thing. If you don’t want to save, hit Circle.

Download Ogranise v2

and discuss in our forums, here

Thanks modsyn!

Cswindle has done it again! This time you can frag your friends across the nation! Hehe…

Taken from the DCemu forums. Here’s what Cswindle has to say:

Hi All

Here is the latest build of the multiplayer support version of Quake, in this build it has the following additions:
- Infrastructure mode added
- Adhoc & Infrastructure are now enabled via the network menu
- The access point for infrastructure mode setting is in setup in the network settings
- Hacks to speed up the FPS to enable network versions to have less lag
- Sound support in both adhoc & infrastructure

In order to change the access point that you want to use, just go to the network setup menu and press left or right on the access point box.

Hope you enjoy.

Uber Battery for the PSP!

Posted by greg

This was brought to my attention recently in an email sent by Jeff. PSPeeOnYou originally posted in this thread with regard to creating a 100 hour “Uber Battery” for the PSP.

Uber Battery

Jeff has also sent us some schematics for a LI-ION battery charger/power supply. Here’s what he had to say:

There seems to be interest in making a really large battery pack for those extended flights to Moscow and Peking. Stringing together the batteries is pretty easy, but how to charge them? And the PSP requires between 5 and 5.5 VDC for its AC adapter port, while lithium batteries are 3.6VDC. You could series two of them to make 7.2 VDC, and then use a linear regulator, but the regulator will get hot and you will lose about 25% of your battery charge to just heat.

Instead, why not make a circuit that will both charge the battery appropriately, and boost the 2.1 to 4.2 VDC native voltage for Li-ion batteries to 5.1 volts? National Semiconductor (www.national.com) makes two chips which will do this quite efficiently. They are the LM3622 and LM2621. The datasheets for these chips are downloadable in pdf format and each has a reference design which will do just about exactly what we need.

The charging stage will take a DC input of 4.5 to 6.5 volts available from the PSP AC adapter. The datasheet has a very complete desription of how the charging chip works: http://cache.national.com/ds/LM/LM3622.pdf. Theoretically, you should be able to parallel up as many batteries as you need. R1 and R2 were intended to be soldered-in jumpers that would allow individuals to choose their deep-discharge reconditioning strategy. (Only connect one of these, otherwise you get a short circuit.)

The output stage is based on the LM2621. The datasheet is available here: http://cache.national.com/ds/LM/LM2621.pdf. The inductor at the input stage is turned on to charge up the inductor’s magnetic field. Then the transistor is turned off and the inductor must discharge through the diode D1 to charge up the capacitor C2. The rest of the circuit is feedback to regulate the voltage to the proper 5.1VDC. ( The reference design uses a 50kOhm resistor at Rf2, but I wanted 5.1VDC for load regulation margin, so I used 47kOhm.) This is sort of an inductive charge pump.

Of course to make this circuit properly with noise immunity, you really need to design a circuit board. This can be done by downloading free (!!) schematic capture and board layout software from www.pcb123.com. Parts can be purchased from DigiKey or Allied or similar. You really need to have 20 or 50 or 100 boards to begin to make this cost effective though. If you are making just one or two, the setup costs for board manufacture end up killing you. What might be better is to buy a battery pack made by logic3 and dissect the thing for the charging circuit/power supply. They probably have not used this exact circuit, but I bet you it is pretty close. I bought one here: http://www.nothingbutsoftware.com/
catalog_type_page/ProductCode/34474 for $20. I plan to tear it apart and figure out if I can make it work on a larger battery pack. I’ll let you know how it goes.

One last thing, www.batterygeek.net is selling a 15 hour Li-ion pack for about $75, which ought to last you on a flight to anywhere in the world.

It’s an interesting read - check it out.

Multiplayer Adhoc Quake

Posted by m1ndle5s

Yes, multiplayer on Quake. Cswindle from the DCemu forums was able to get multiplayer to work, but it is still a little buggy.

Cswindle:

Hi All

I have been working for a while on getting Quake working in adhoc mode and I have managed to get an initial version working, it is not perfect, but it does work (It is a bit of a hack the way it is currently done, but I have a few things to try out to improve the network play). This was done using Peter Mackay’s port as the base code and changing the video functions to use the GU to speed it up a bit to help the network tasks have more time.

I have only tested this using the 2 PSP’s so I am not sure how well it will work with more than 2, if you have more than two PSP’s to test with then let me know how well it works.

Enjoy

Chris

Taken from read me file:

It almost definitely won’t work with a v2.00 EBOOT loader.

Start fragging your friends once you get it here

Fanjita has done it again! 2.0+ EBOOT Loader!

Posted by m1ndle5s

Fanjita has done it again! An EBOOT loader for firmware versions 2.0+ using the GTA save game exploit of course. Unfortunately it does not work for 2.6 firmware users.

Installation is simple:

  1. Use WinRAR (grab a copy at www.rarlabs.com) to unpack the archive into the root (the top-most) directory on your memory stick.
*Note - this eLoader utilizes slot 5 - any existing game using this slot will be overwritten.
  2. You can see which slots are used by the directory name: ULES00182SX, ULES00151SX or ULUS10041SX. The ‘X’ represents the slot #.
  3. To ensure the eLoader is not auto loaded by GTA upon game boot, you can simply load an existing real save, and re-save. Or copy an existing save off your memory stick, and back to it again.
  4. Now copy your homebrew files into /PSP/GAME.

Utilization:

  1. Boot GTA as normal. When it has loaded, press start and select “Load Game”.
  2. Select the eLoader savegame and confirm the load as normal. The eLoader menu should appear shortly after.
  3. Using the D-Pad select the homebrew you wish to load, and press X.
  4. You can adjust the CPU clock with the L+R buttons.
  5. Holding L+R and START for a few seconds will return you back to the menu.

What are you waiting for? Get it now! Fanjita’s GTA Eboot Loader 2.0+
