But whats new? MPH FirmwareLauncher had Video playback too. I mean the new 2.0 codecs an stuff. All this gameshark did was changing the index.dat to 1.5.

really sorry to be a noob here but can some1 tell me wat is it that this really do. it sound to me like it enable a new media format support, for v1.5 that only have in v2.0 psp plz correct me if im wrong. and another thing is that I have not been keeping track on update and would like to know if I could play AVI video file on the psp yet. fully with speed and sound.

ok i can’t get this think to work… all that happens when i run the app is a blurred picture pops up in the top left corner. I’m pretty sure what i did wrong was with the flash0 and the flash1 files (i put them in the root of my stick). What do i do w/ the flash files??

Wouldn’t it be possible to make an custom update that would be like 1.5 but a faked version 2.6 or something.. so people with 2.01+ could run it and the psp thinks it’s updating to 2.6 but is actually a 1.5?

There is nothing new here. You have to run it on the mphfl so what good is it? I mean I could have “Released” a new firmware when I got the 2.50 firmware, running in emulation on mphfl, to play UMD movies. I was the first to make that happen but I didn’t rush out and try to misrepresent. As far as I’m concerned this is a waste of time.

Yes it is useless at this point. What do you think MPH’s firmware launcher is for? It’s so you can play your ISO’s and then if you want to web browse you launch either 2.0 or 2.5 firmware using his firmware launcher. This custom firmware is not gaining you anything that wasn’t already there. That being said then just use the emulated 2.0 or 2.50 firmware to watch those movies and with 2.5 watch the movies and browse the web now. Untill this can be flashed to a PSP it serves no purpose being released other than to add to the confusion.

jeez! whats wrong with you people! your all saying it’s “useless” you are compleatly missing the big picture. this is a BIG step. maby you can do mucxh with it, but the concept of putting features of 2.0 in a 1.5 but still keep 1.5’s ability to run everything (think iso loader) is huge. the next step is to inject other features into the 1.5 fw, like a browser and ability to play “2.xx only” games. then it can be deviluped into a compleate firmware package to reflash your psp with.

No….It’s not huge. It is being done under emulation. Untill it can be flashed it is pointless to put it out since 2.0 and 2.5 which have more features can be run under emulation. Don’t you get it? This custom firmware is crippled compared to 2.50 when both are running under emulation. So it serves no purpose being out here. Release it when it actually has benefits.

You want to play ISO’s, browse the web, watch 2.0 UMD Movies? The only way that will happen is if someone cracks the 2.0 FW. You are not going to turn 1.50 into a firmware that does everything 2.0 does and yet keep the 1.50 functionality of playing ISO’s. It just is not going to happen.

What will happen is 2.0 FW will be cracked. If you want to pin your hopes and dreams on something then pin them on Fanjita’s breakthrough! Now there is a exploit with tremendous possibilities.

We have no idea where the next major break through or major showstopper will happen, its best to explore all ideas. for all we know, fanjitas work might hit an obsticle that prevents us from running anything but the simplest home brew.

davecazz: part 2 of my rant: GameSharks name should not even be mentioned in the same breath as Fanjita’ or McZonk. Fanjita’ and McZonk are true assets to the scene. They are true PSP coders unlike GameShark. He did not develop anything. All he did was take some files from the firmwares that have the AVC codecs and put them into the 1.50 firmware. Anybody can do that. You don’t have to be a developer / coder for that.

So I am positive where true contributors are concerned and I appreciate thier work and hope they continue with thier efforts.

By “extended multimedia capabilties”, if you’re talking about AVC encoded files under 1.5. This thing ain’t working.

However, if you’re talking about media files that work in the background (ie, trying to get gta type games to work), then I don’t know since there’s no way of testing it. Cheers anyways GameShark.

Does this at all enable you to play GTA liberty city stories with this firmware? If so I need to downgrade

If you want to play AVC videos from your memory stick then use mphfl 1.3.7u4 and the standard 2.50 firmware that is available for download.

Since the onlt hing that was done to create this “custom” firmware is some .prx file were copied and put into the 1.50 extracted firmware. That and that butt ugly background graphic. Nothing new was written. Nothing new was created. Those of you who think this is a step in the right direction need to take the time to understand what was done to the firmware. It is a sham. 5 .prx files were copied from a later firmware. that’s it. All you Idiots congratulating & offering props and the piece of crap will not even play or recognize a AVC video which is what is was supposed to do. What a joke you ass kissers are.

This has the 2.0 codecs that are needed to run the 2.0 UMD games. Soon enough, it will be able to load onto PSP’s flash as a custom Firmare(even if it’s just with the codecs at first). After that, (providing it’s possbile, as wisely mentioned in the news post) with some outside help and possibly slow progress, 2.0 UMD’s could possibly load on 1.5 firmware.

That’s the point here isn’t it?

Just checked it out, and like socal said its just 2.0 .prxs copied to 1.5 frimware. Socal you have a valid point, but you don’t need to be so negetive. Gameshark will work on it, and make it more functional. Just be patient, and check back every few days.
