After a long time of waiting, PSP-OSS v0.1 is here! This is the first version of the much anticipated open source shell.
The current version includes the following features:
MP3/OGG music player
PNG/JPG image viewing, up to 512×512 resolution
Boot any kxploited EBOOT.PBP file, and return to the shell afterwords
Open, cut, delete, paste, and rename files off of the memory stick
Run the inserted UMD and return to the shell afterwords
USB mode
Access time and date information
Shortcuts - View shortcut.ql in Notepad for an example

Update: Just wanted to include that this program does NOT work with the Datel 4gb HD at this time. I’m sure a fix will come soon.
Update 2: Recently people have been spamming the comments a lot. We do read these comments, and we will ban those who lie/spam. I’m sure you know who you are, if you can even still see this site. Go spend a few years at school, learn to spell, and grow up.

ok here is the lowdown
intsalled nicely takes some time to put on your memory stick but easy as hell.
psp-oss and psp-oss% go in the game folder, and the other psp-oss goes in the root of the memory stick, and then your away.
loads nicely, smooth mouse movment HOLD DOWN R1 for faster movment and a nice windows vist skin and wallpaper.
plays music while you tiwddle about on the main screen which is nice
Don’t try to launch a game while music is playing! FREEZE THEN LOCKOUT then you have to turn the psp back on agin.

HomeBREW :
PSP revolution - Runs but Buggy cannot load custom made folders in the song directory.
STX firmware tricker - YES but does not help to trick UMD games to think your running a higer firmware hence POP:R and GTA:LCS don’t run.
Can’t play videos on it as of yet.
Okay, Some people, including me, have had their PSP-OSS run before, but now it gets stuck at Please Wait…
This is why: (Atleast for me)
You tried to use a custom wallpaper, and put it on the MS.
When you tried to change it on PSP-OSS, it freezes, so you manually restart your PSP.
Now, when you try to run PSP-OSS again, it gets stuck at the Please Wait… screen.
The Reason:
Your Custom Wallpaper didn’t work right. (I’m not sure why, I saved it in PNG in Photoshop)
So when you try to run PSP-OSS again, it won’t load because of a faulty wallpaper.
What to do!:
*Step 1:
Turn on your PSP, Go into USB mode.
Go to the folder:
Root\PSP-OSS\SYSTEM
*Step 2:
There is a file called WALLPAPER.PNG there.
(Or just WALLPAPER, depending on your computer settings.
If it just says WALLPAPER, go to section B)
*Step 3:
The reason PSP-OSS won’t load is because this file is corrupted.
Even if you delete it, it’ll come right back at you.
You can’t over-write it. It’ll say file is corrupted.
Can’t delete it correctly over Command Prompt either.
- So, What do you do? Rename it WALLPAPER.jpg
*Step 4:
MOVE or CUT WALLPAPER.jpg to:
Root\PSP\PHOTO\(Any foldername)
*Step 5:
Get out of USB mode,
In your original PSP menu, go to pictures -> (Any foldername)
There should be an image called WALLPAPER, with an icon that says Corrupted file.
Press Triangle, and Delete the file.
*Step 6:
Go into USB mode.
Go to folder:
Root\PSP-OSS\WALLPAPERS
COPY any one of these wallpapers.
Go to folder: Root\PSP-OSS\SYSTEM
PASTE the previously copied wallpaper.
RENAME it WALLPAPER.PNG
*Step 7:
Get out of USB mode, and run PSP-OSS as you have before.
**Section B**
Does that file just say WALLPAPER and not WALLPAPER.PNG for you?
Then do the following: (Instructions only apply for Windows XP, I forget the order in other windows)
At the top of your window, go to the Tools menu.
Then select Folder Options…
Select the View tab at the top of the newly opened window
There are a list of options, scroll down, and locate:
Hide extensions for known file types
UN-Check that box.
The Click Okay or Apply then close your window.
Now you should see WALLPAPER.PNG.

what about version 2.0. as said in the resent announcement it whoukld play for version 2.0. but right now its in kernel mode not user and oh yeah it says this is the beta version didnt you forget that in the beta version it whould have compatiblity with 2.0. just saying my word.
it only works on 1.5 and i have been noticing that alot of stores used to sell 1.5…but since piss-mass theyve been runing out of psp’s so the so stores obviously re-ordered them but now they are 2.0!(ex: my psp was a 2.0 when i bought it a week ago @ ebgames) soooo it isnt gonna be long before the psp are sold w/ firmware 2.1 and on!
well it doesnt work for 2.0 now (tested it on my bros psp)…but eventually it will-im sure of that!

The first time i booted it umd emulator worked fine, played burnout no worries, but now once i have got back to the psposs it says the faa error, impossible to run… and i had it set to 2.0 using PSPset 0.9…
I did change the theme, so it might be just the error #2 spoke of hopefully, going to see if that helps, if not reinstalling it… Great for a beta release, the cursor with the anolog sticks works brilliantly, much betterthan i could have imagined, very smooth.

if the next versions were to have all those I swear I will just sit down with my psp and cry..LOL
im not saying they will have it though just to get it straight
man, this site is much better without the constant bollocks posts… Now none of the programs will run lol, not even the umd, very buggy still… I’m gonna delete and reinsatall without playing with themes and see if that works… One guy on afterdawn said it didn’t work when he tried, but my first go it booted umd emulator and burntou fine, which has got me a bit perplexed… OH, i’m pbailey on the forums over there, anyone who’s clued on with this stuff should join up and help out over there, we need all the help answering questions we can get, i’m def no expert, i just like playing around with it all, ya know?

Wow, reinstalled it , ie deleted it and installed again, but now it just boots back to the psp os whenever i try to run any proggies, the psposs boots fine, but it won’t boot anything, i’m going to check if there’s a thread in the forums on it.

Oh man, This thing is great! I just installed it, and it looks to have a VERY high potential. Its like havng windows on your psp. You can change your themes, backrounds, you can launch your UMDs (1.500 and under from what i have read)Play homebrew and browse all your media through this nifty little program. I can’t wait to see what else comes out of this in the near future.

This thing is great,I love it,and I even apply my own theme based on ALIENGUISE FROM ALIENWARE PC THEMES,it looks AWESOME,easy to make,and it DID NOT FREEZES.As I can see,you can apply your own themes as much as u want,YOU HAVE JUST TO KNOW HOW…
If there is one thing this program need its DivX/Xvid support. Cant stand the video format used atm looks bad and takes up way too much space. Soooo many noobs spamming on all these comments. *Sigh*

meh, the themes are easy to change, it’s the launching of isos that are causing me troubles, the themes and actual oss work fine, the external programs are the ones not working properly anymore, buggy as hell, i’m still trying to get it sorted tho.. Don’t worry about the dicks posting spam, they don’t seem to understand that a network card uses a mac address, nothing to do with the ip address, you can’t change the mac address cause it’s in the NIC firmware, so just ignore it, read the news, the site is banning all spamming nobs like mr spam above.

Good news guys, it took a reformat of the mem stick lol, tried replacing the eboot files of the specific third party proggies, without success (thanks for the help darkunitzero), but reformatting and reinstalling it, umd emulator 0.8c and the iso (this time f1) and it worked again. As soon as i tried to boot umd emulator again from the games menu in psposs it came up with the FA error, and booted me back to the psoss. So a few bugs on the 3rd party titles, will try again with dev hook, but none too confident. Can’t expect too much anyway, they promised a b4 xmas release and they delivered, it’s buggy and doesn’t work properly, at least not regularly enough to use at the mo, but i’m hell pleased with it, great work psposs guys, it’s friggin awesome. That said the actual psposs programs itself, besides the launching of programs works beautifully, a great first release, i await impatiently the next release, please don’t go commercial on our asses :D

Pity i cant get fastloader and iso workin on it, and it is a bit of a pain to have to keep booting it from your mem stick when you tun on your psp :(

No no 39, mine doesn’t work properly cause for some reason umd emulator is not unloading in the background, i have to go back to the psp os and unload it by using triangle, then if i open psposs again everything works sweet. Are you using umd emulator, cause iso loader 0.7 is not the same program… Come on guys, sign up with the forum and post all your findings in the thread on the board under help. I’m going to try dev hook, ie delete umd emulator and see if that works, it plays all my backups.
I can confirm that umd emulator is not unloading, even when set to direct load or copy load, and thus not allowing anythign at all to run. I have to literally boot back into pspos and unload it.
looks great but too bad this doesnt run on any psp 1.5 yet. people with the 4gb hdd cant get it to run. some few people (including me) cant get it to work on 1.5 (maybe it does not only refuse to work on the hdd but also on some few memsticks) so im hoping there will be an update soon. combined with the dual boot from team emergency exit this is going to replace the old os which i dont wanna see anymore…so please hurry up X’D
hey man, it works on 1.5, just make sure you install the psposs folder to the root of the mem stick, and the two psposs folders under game to thegame folder. If you’re havin anymore troubles check out the thread in the forums, and leave a message, it’s beta for a reason, so peeps can test and give feedback… cheers.
Well i can’t get umd emualtor to unload after using it , it works but just won’t unload, thus stopping anything else from working too lol, could just be me tho.. dev hook and fast loader 0.7 both work fine, what an awesome first release, great work guys.

cool. i dont think im gonna get psp-oss, just because it seems too buggy right now, but it just got released. but it seems like a really cool idea, props to the developers! i think that some of the early homebrew applications should be made into the next version of the program, like psp radio, tetris, etc.
but what i want to know is where all you other people find your ligit iso files, is it via bit torrent? cuz i am having trouble finding them! ;P

its quite weird reading all of this people with problems and such. i have found this out between me and my mate we have 3 psp 1(US original 1.5) 1(JPN 1.5>2.00>1.5) and 1(EUR 2.00>1.5)
My JPN run this fine no problems what so ever.
The US one has a few problems but dose work at times.
and the Euro one doots up and dies goes to black screen and have to remove battery to reboot.
All i can say is haha gota love my JPN psp orderd it like 7months ago looks like imort wins again, but these where my findings dont know if it helps in any way for anyone.
lolz, i have a 1.5 european, and evn set ato 2.0 it still launches it fine, very strange, besides that umd emulator probi mentioed everything works as it should. would it be possible for psp-oss to have a screenshot feature in the future?
I know people said that oss wouldn’t work on games 2.0 and above , but I have ” The Con , Infected , Xmen Legends and Death Jr. ” all of them work great with my psp-oss. The only problem is it won’t save your data when you try to save, but it’ll load the data from the card perfectly and even lets me play online
This is great, I really enjoy it! One thing I would suggest is fixing the mouse sensitivity. Sometiems my analog nub will not even be touched and yet the mouse moves. Please consider looking into this because im sure many other people have the same trouble, Thanks.

pretty cool! nice work! all it really needs for main functions is a video player. Then maybe if they plugged in something like the fired up browser into it and maybe some other extras like maybe a built in LUA player slot (like a plugin) so u could replace the curent LUA player ever time and it will simply launch LUA scripts. NICE WORK nonetheless!!! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

ive been in the homebrew scene lately but i still dont know what a umd emulator is. can some one fill me in
its a program for the psp that helps you launch your own legit (or maybe custom) isos images
oh and isos are well….in simple terms….psp games ripped from the umds, but isos are also psx, ps2, and xbox games as well.

actually, UMD Emulator does work on the OSS. I’ve yet to have any real problems or bugs yet.

Im amazed… it boots perfectly and… wel im not telling anything more until i check that oss up but i have PSP european 2.00 downgraded to 1.50 jap and it works =)
