MbShell v0.01 – a PSP Modular Shell
greg | December 7, 2005
This was over in the qj forums and I thought it was rather cool.
Blue2 has released his first build of MbShell – a module based shell for the PSP.
From the readme.txt:
MbShell (development name) is a shell written in C for the Sony PSP. The name stands for ‘Module based Shell’ and stresses the fact that this application is build with modules (prx’s in this case). This makes it easy to patch the application without ‘reinstalling’ it on the psp. Just replace a module and we’re set to go. This drastically speeds up development for me, and adds simplicity to installing updates in the future for you.
This initial release features:
- Interface and Audio module
- 32bit graphics with alpha blending
- MP3 support
- PNG support
- Screenshot support
- Graphical framework
So what does this do? Again, from the included readme.txt:
It will boot up, present you with a nice interface, a taskbar will slide-in showing time and battery status. A pop-up will announce audio playback has been started and an mp3 will be played. You can move the cursor with the analog stick, and get rid of the popup using the ‘X’ button. To quit just use the ‘Home’ button as you would normally do.

Pretty cool stuff!
Remember this is an early development build, so there isn’t much functionality yet, though the future looks quite promising with this app.
Check it out!

nice. been looking forward to this
2nd!
hoping someone creative is taking advantage of this. im definatly looking forward to this.
So is this just like your own verion of psp? Just like linux or windows?
If it is, they should be able to create custom firmware now, right?
lol, noob here >_
does this work with v2.6????
This was made on 1.0 firmware and will only work on 1.0 and 1.5 so do not ask.
-TC
tcheck the psposx…. it’s not out yet but alot better than Mbshell….
somthing to look forward for….. this is it….!!!!!!!
humm not undrestanding how to install it :)
ok I got it but it looks like it can only play one mp3 at a time and you have to rename the mp3 to test for it to play it. :( I dont get it
Couldn’t you implement support for other video-formats. Some codec-support and over this plattform the games using psp version 2.60 could run on a 1.50. Would be nice, if hackers could manage to work together on this thing…
Kim you’re a Asswhipe, Dont even ask why.
Anyway this apps looks sweet, Keep up the good work.
What the heck does this do? is this for 1.5? NOOBSS!@!!!! Nub nub nub noob!! would this make the psp to a cellphone? Help me please!!! noobs
#12: Kim may or may not be an asswipe, but your grammar is awful. Just to recap, if a word begins with a vowel, the preceding indefinite article should be ‘an’, eg ‘an apple, an orange, a banana, a fish’. One peculiar if slightly archaic exception to this is the word ‘hotel’…in old books it is often written as ‘an hotel’ but this is falling out of use now.
Additionally, you used a capital letter in the middle of a sentence.
I don’t mind you insulting people, but be grammatically correct when you do.
OK, bye for now.
Love
Kenny
Haha :P Stick it to him!
Could someone explain how to install? Got 1.5 thx!
very nice work.
well, this reminds again of how stupid sony handles this whole homebrew thing… I mean they creted such a nice product but they do not want the users to do something really cool with it.
#14 uhhhh eg
hi,
i got a problem. Always when i want to start the Mbshell my psp hang up and go back to the home menu and say “This game can’t played (80020001) (in german: Das Spiel konnte nicht gestartet werden. (80020001)”
Whats my fault ? i’ve installed everything like in the readme. A same problem i got withe the RIN emulator. Thanks for helping. serder
y du ppl alwayse goon abut grammmer??? al da time?
me fale englishe dats umpossable!
To #13, you’re an idiot, what the fuck gave you the idea of this making it a cellphone? You call everyone noobs yet you haven’t got a clue what you’re talking about and calling people things like that won’t make them help you!
question let me get this right, all that this app does is play a single mp3 when you boot it up. :( I dont see what is speical about that.
It not only turns the psp into a cell phone it fixes the display so its a touch screen with big numbers so you can call people easily… true story…..
nah really looks great so far keep up the great work
nah thats not possible for the psps screen… lol if it was a touch screen it would have a hell of a lotta fingerprints on it.. i never touch my screen. but when other people play it for some reason they just have a nasty habit of PUTTING THIER FINGERS ON MY SCREEN… IM LIKE WTF WHY DO U HAVE TO DO THAT I DONT EVER CANT U JUST NOT TOUCH THE SCREEN WTF then everyday i gotta wipe those fucken fingerprints off its a bitch!!
KEEP UR FINGERS OF THE SCREEN OR I WILL KILL U NEXT TIIME FUCKEN ASSHOLES!!! LOL =)
*23

Would someone be so kind and explain to me how to get this working?
I also get this:
“This game can’t played (80020001)” error.
Hany help would be kind thanks!
This is GREAT! Hope to see new versions of this asap! Would be kewl with webbrowser, video/music/photo/game launchers etc. :) Also small games! Small games for the people!
This is not what the PSP was made for! It was made so Sony could make a s@#$ load of money, STOP HACKING IT. (Joke Just Kidding Keep up the good work Guys and Girls, I for one really appreciate it Thanks)
to all who get the error message make sure u have v1.0 or v1.5 nothing else will work for this.
Tobby, “why?”
Quit trying to make up for your inadequacies and defiencies by insulting other people.
i have 1.5 and u need to use kxploit v0.3(get from this site) and then put the 2 of the files that were in the file\psp\game\mbshell folder (not the eboot) then send the folder mbshell to the root of ms then it will work

Number 44: They are going to put a bullet ‘on’ my ass are they? Well that’s not too scary. What would frighten me though is if the pupil shot a bullet at me out of some kind of gun. You can’t even get basic grammatical conjunctions right, motherfucker.
I’m so scared of you, I don’t know if I should piss myself, or shit myself!
Love
Kenny

I havent been in this site for a while, now they got PSP OS’s or something like that or skins?!?!
It looks good, but it is still not a very usefull program.. I understand that this could develop until something usefel though!
